That you did.
[ He moves over to a large flat platform, with several spoons and small bowls. ]
Here we go. [ he points to one that's dark red, and gives her a spoon. ] How about it?
no subject
Not bad, Brooklyn. [in fact, she coughs] It's even got some back kick to it.
no subject
Doesn't it? I haven't had much a'the real thing but I figure this'll be useful to get at least two bags of for taste. I don't think we double back to these planets.
no subject
Also, she is not entirely oblivious to the change in the tenor of his smile. She feels a bit foolish, and tells herself sternly just to call the man by what he asked her to, because she can't attribute that strain of - sadness? - to anything else in the conversation.]
Mmm. [Noncommittal (and slightly throaty, thanks to the truly spicy spice, what. Seriously could go for some water or something right now.)] Maybe. But we don't know how well it keeps. Or how many people on board like things hot. I'd better try a couple more things an' then see.
[She glances at the assortment.]
Any recommendations?
no subject
Sure. Here, this tastes a little like mint. This one might be nutmeg? Have a go.
no subject
The mint one is... not very minty, but that might be because her mouth is still on fire. The nutmeg-ish one was very pleasant, though, and she could see using that with a couple of the recipes she has stocked in her head to try and make it less... what it was.]
All right. [She leans one gloved hand lazily on the edge of the booth, still far and away from invading anything remotely like his personal space, but definitely taking on a more relaxed posture. Beware.] Let's say a girl was interested in one or two of these spices. What's the current rate of trade?
no subject
[ so smooth, Rogue. ]
no subject
[Then she pulled back and grinned, cheeky and irreverent.] Ya might have a customer. Dependin' on the deal, of course.
no subject
Right, what're you lookin' at so far?
no subject
The spicy one an' the nutmeg one one. Maybe a little bit of the green that tastes a bit like cilantro.
no subject
We'll ring it up, shall we? [ he fetches one medium sized sealed packet of each, and holds out a calculator with the price. ] There. Negotiable.
no subject
[By this time, she has stopped taking any special notice of his one very shiny hand.]
no subject
Half? One whole bag, at seventy five percent a'the price. What say you?
no subject
One whole bag at half the price. Like I said, I don't even know how long it'll keep.
[She is fully prepared to settle on 60 percent, if necessary.]
no subject
All right, deal.
no subject
If it wasn't, then congratulations, you got treated to all those shifting emotions over her face for the low, low price of an extra bag of spice. ]
Done! [She even laughs, quietly and briefly, as she digs through the small bag she'd traded for that holds the currency the natives use.]
no subject
Pleasure doin' business, sweetheart. Come back anytime.
no subject
I might just take you up on that.
[She hands over the requisite amount of currency, habitually careful not to allow even gloved hands contact with his, regardless of which hand he uses to receive it.]
no subject
Shall I get you a bag, or y'going as-is?
no subject
At his question, Rogue glances down at herself - not much in the way of pockets here.]
I guess I'd better get a bag. I'll probably poke about a bit more before goin' back to the ship.
