fifth labyrinth
Who: Felix Harrowgate
Broadcast: Fleet-wide video
Action: Waystation
When: Today
[Today Felix has seated himself at a bench in the vacant park area of today's closest waystation. It's certainly not for the ambiance, given that the courtyard is as bland as ever.]
I was hoping to beg a few moments of everyone's time... [He smiles brightly, sharp and genial - a politician's kind of smile]
As far as things that affect the fleet as a whole, it's my understanding - and correct me if I am wrong - that the library aboard the Bishop no longer has a caretaker since Krista left us. It likewise occurred to me that since we now have the Iskaulit under our control, that we might consider making use of it after all the trouble you all went to clear it out. Therefore, I'd like to propose moving the current collection to the Iskaulit with the permission of the current crew of the Bishop. At least there it would be easier for the rest of the fleet to access it.
[He pauses for a moment, adjusting the position of his hands on the table]
The other matter is more specific. I brought up the idea of having a meeting of the fleet's magic users some months ago, but that hasn't quite fallen into place. It doesn't have to be anything quite so formal as what I've done in the past... [Though, admittedly, transferring the library is a step towards just that kind of idea. The temptation to reform Chimera, or some form of it, is strong after so many years of having it be a part of his life in the castle. But he's rather not appear so selfish from the start.] ...but just for time being, anyone is welcome to come speak to me here. There's sufficient space and lack of any bystanders if there's any desire for demonstrations. [Or so he hopes]

I'm not completely certain. I heard of a few people winning back some of their items in games of chance a few months back. I'd wager it won't be the last time they'll dangle that possibility in front of our noses, but I can't be more helpful than that.
Can you tell me more about these objects? [Especially the cards, which he perks up every so slightly up at the mention of]

[ Nodding enthusiastically. ] Astrologians use star globes, to chart the positioning of the celestial bodies. We use cards -- there are six primary ones -- to divine the will of the stars. By attuning your aether to the heavens, you can achieve magic: to shield, or to heal. Sometimes both. And the stars you divine grant benefits to you, which you can confer on others. Extra protection, or stronger magic. Things like that.

I wonder if they would behave differently here, given what I can only assume is a completely different cosmology.

[ She shrugs slightly; it has occurred to her that she could attune to the aetheric properties of the stars, but she hasn't quite had the time. ]
I will have to try and attune to these stars. I wonder if they have new properties? Offensive ones, perhaps?

[Too bad he doesn't have his diving deck on hand, or he'd demonstrate the idea that occurs to him next]
Would it be at all possible to re-construct any of what you're missing on your own, rather than hoping to recover the ones you've had taken?
no subject
[ Hmmmm. A thaumaturge, perhaps. To harness the power within. She has never been very good at that. ]
I think I could. I am also a goldsmith; I can make my own materials, given tools and a forge for some parts.
no subject
[The idea of a goldsmith is intriguing in it's own right]
Perhaps that's something else you could set up on the Iskaulit.

Limitations like what? Ah. . . and I would like to have a place for working with metal on our ships. I know others would too.
no subject
[Sometimes he's tempted to be mildly jealous at the shortcomings his own personal thaumaturgy has to offer, but only sometimes. He shrugs]
I didn't know we had so many craftspersons on the fleet.
no subject
[ She shakes her head. ] At home you must do some sort of craft if you are not naturally rich, it seems...?
no subject
[He's smiling despite the statement]
Oh...not always. There are other ways to make a living. Porters, scholars, actors, barkeepers...that sort of thing...
[This provides an excellent segue, however]
Speaking of which, if you don't mind me asking, is that your work as well?
[Gesturing towards her coat]

[ looking down and -- nodding ] With some help from Ranmaia -- who is not here. But she is the wife of a friend who is.
no subject
Is that...kind of travel necessary for you often?
