[It's been a while since he's sent a wave on any kind of network like this, but it's not like it's hard to remember how.]

You know - being back on a spaceship, alright, fine.

[The face onscreen is of a wiry, annoyed teenager. He keeps carding his fingers through his dry, soft, clean hair; it's a feeling he's not used to and it's still novel. His eyes are rolled skyward as he considers the room, sketching around at the ceiling and searching for something before he regards the actual camera.]

Weird... cleansing rituals. Sewing my clothes. There was probably some feet stuff while I was out. Whatever. I guess I'm not here to judge your lame kinks as long as I get some grub out of it.

[He looks back up again, and ticks an irritated finger towards the roof above him.]

But if we're gonna keep playing this new age, virgin with denial and a saxophone jazz crap all day long? I'm gonna need a damn weapon back.

Then Rogue decides she doesn't care. It's the perfect flippant way to explain what's going - and it's shorter!]

[They don't have things in his world like television and fun so it does go so far over his head. But he knows 'camera'. His head cocks back so he can check at the corners where he expects they'd be.]

Yeah, what about 'em? Aren't those, like - the very first step to Standard Ship Paranoia 101?

[Well, Rogue's not too surprised that he didn't know what 'candid camera' was, but 'Standard Ship Paranoia' catches her attention. He's used to being on a ship? A space ship?]

Yeah... I guess it would be. Except it's not just goin' to the big security feed in the sky.

[Aw, man, she hates explaining this stuff.]

Gone are the days of drinking games and public executions for fun and profit, I guess. [NOT THAT HE'S COMPLAINING?] Now there's a whole wide world of watching people take naps and shits in space.

[Okay, points for handling with anger and humor simultaneously. However... weird comparison, drinking game and public executions. She quietly notes these things, but does not ask.]

I mean, a few days on what they're passing off as food here and it'll be solid, at least.

[Are we still making poop jokes here? because that is what he's here for. Fending off panic in a quick succession of turds and rhetoric.]

[Her eyebrows tilt up. She's shocked. Shocked.]

There's a deliberate pause. Then Rogue holds up a gloved hand.]

[Her tone is definitely amused.

Well, if that's gonna be the attitude - how about my name is Nero and you can suck me off?

[He tosses a hand into the air, as if physically throwing a gauntlet down between them.]

[Rogue's eyebrows arched dangerously. Wow, that was a response to a tease, for sure. Even more crude and disgusting - she almost disconnected the conversation at that. But she did like to try and be fair, and would give him one more chance.]

Wow. Ya sure know how ta help a gal make up her mind. An invitation like that an' how could I refuse ta get ta know you better.

[ - Well, it's hard for his heart to be in it after that.] Yeah? Thought it'd be hard to resist.

[Right. Getting along with people. Unheard of shit like "controlling his emotions" and "avoiding angry mobs". Murphy waits, angrily rubbing a knuckle under his nose. The whole point of going off with that nutjob Jaha had been about finding something better and he was pissed because it took a sharp left turn? What else about his life was new?

[He had to keep reminding himself this was broadcasting. It'd be even harder to get away with anything here. He had no clue how other people handled feeling this agitated.]

Sorry. [And he even manages to sound halfway genuine.]

Been a while since I've been on a ship, and I guess a gal can get lonely. [His eyes roll up and his mouth stops being a flat line, more of a glib smile.] How's 'Murphy' instead, why don't you call me that? Do I get yours now? Finally?

[Halfway genuine is... well. Rogue isn't exactly warming to him, but she isn't hanging up either.

She decided to cut the new kid a break. It wasn't as though she was unused to bluster as a way of covering up for things being confusing as hell.

[When you've known people named 'Atom', 'Rogue' isn't so out of place; he doesn't really question it.]

Sometimes, what these parents name their kids. I mean - I got John? But yours was asking for it.

[So many assumptions that she is never in a million years going to correct.

Well, except one. She wants absolutely no credit given to the woman she still thinks of as a parent for any part of her identity.]

You've got no idea. But you're wrong 'bout the name. I picked it out when I was a kid. [Okay, when she was twelve. But she had a very, very good reason.]

Yeah, you're right, I guess I don't.

[He'll admit that freely, because he doesn't know her or anything about her - and he's loath to dive into any conversation about sketchy parentage - but the name.]

So you're one of those kinds, huh? Still stickin' by that choice to this day too, gotta admire that.

[And Rogue is 800 percent okay with not talking about parents ever.

"Those kinds?" Really? ...she just decides to avoid that too. If he doesn't want to take her name for the warning about 'labels' that it is, that's his look-out. As for the rest, she rolls her eyes.]

Not really. You're still stickin' by your name, right?

[Same difference. Clearly.]

[He blinks, and answers a bit dumbly:] Well - yeah, it's my name.

[Anything different had never really occurred as a possibility before.]

Why 'Rogue' then? I mean, you could've picked anything - why not be Dread Pirate Fuck-Off, or Princess Pooponyourhead? Or Maurice. [We see why he sticks with his own name now.] Why 'Rogue'?

[There are so many really excellent answers to this that are far and away too personal for this conversation. Still, she's a little impressed he asked the question - most people don't.

Her response is still laconic:] I like it.

[And then a quick flash of a grin, because honestly, he needs to work on his nicknames.] Though I guess it's not too late for ya - I mean, ya did just get here. You could always go by 'Princess Pooponyourhead' if ya really wanted. Might get shortened ta PP, but... kinda fittin', considering.

[That's fair enough. He can't fault someone for that, all things considered. It's not really an answer but he's had cagier ones.]

You know, it is tempting. [He looks upward like he's considering it.] But if you call me any of that crap, me and you are gonna have a problem, so. Let's just stick with Murphy, huh? Might as well stick with the gold standard. It ain't broke, [here] right?

[She is terrified at the thought of having a problem, really. It's almost amusing, and a shadow of a smile crosses her face.]

Ya got a right ta call yourself as ya please. Will say, Murphy's a sight better than the rest of that nonsense ya came up with.

[The untrained teenager stands so much threat to the chick with superpowers - in... his dreamscape. So victorious, much scary.]

Yeah, alright. [He turns his head, glancing off to the side and rubbing a few knuckles against his neck.] I topped the class in 'Nonsense and Bullshit', though, so. Council's gonna have to decide on that one.
