Let Me Sing You the Song of My People
Who: Vanyel Ashkevron & Anyone
Broadcast: Yes
Action: S.S. Starstruck
When: Now
[ The feed pops open to show Vanyel, his hair pulled back in a loose queue that falls over one shoulder. It's like he tried his best to look good for this broadcast, but that surely was not it at all. He didn't even bother to dye out that gray streak running from his temple back into the rest of his hair. In his arms he is cradling a guitar in his arms, fingers idly plucking, soft little twangs underscoring his words when he speaks. ]
Good day - evening, perhaps? It is so hard to tell on the ships.
I was wondering, as we travel to our new destination, if any one would wish to share the music of their home worlds with me? Music has always been a passion of mine, and I feel that the music of a world tells a much deeper story than simply words. I would appreciate, and be honored, to hear yours.
[ For those who are aboard the Starstruck, he is sitting in what counts as his room, strumming the guitar though the tune itself is something that is more at home in a medieval king's court than it is aboard a sleek spaceship - or even on a guitar. He will gladly receive any visitors who wish to stop by. ]

Aside from that, I'm actually trying to put together some music from everyone's worlds myself, so we might be able to gather up some people to help out!
Re: [Video]
Ah - so you are a bard in your own world?
[ Sorry, Uzuki, that's what a professional signer or musician is to him - a bard, or minstrel. ]
I think it would be nice - a way for us all to connect as a larger group even though we so often sail separately.
Re: [Video]
Action
I did not know we had any musicians on board.
Re: Action
[ He looked up, smiling at the young woman, pressing his fingers over the string to still them. ]
I have not found time of late to play. I hope I was not disturbing you.
Re: Action
No, you were not. I was passing by when I heard your playing. Where did you find a guitar?
Re: Action
It was gifted to me by a friend on another ship. It is a new instrument for me, so I have been slowly teaching myself.
[ He motioned to a bit of free space. ]
Please, have a seat if you like.

It was a gift from a friend I made on another ship. Perhaps on another of the planets or way stations we come to they might have one you could trade for.

No, I would say not. The Way Stations have been rather basic for the most part. But I am sure over time you could acquire all you need.

[ He blinks, seeing such a young boy, but he smiles quickly. He had always liked children, even if he technically had none of his own. ]
I would be honored to hear it. If you teach me, I could play some of your father's songs for you, though I know I shall not sound precisely like him.
I really wish I had one of his CDs with him. But I think I got parts of his songs memorized at least!
Re: [Video]
I can work with that, though you might have to repeat it a few times for me to get the notes.

she is the new recruit on the ship. the strange face. she's been closed off -- impersonal -- but that's changing day by day. her knuckles rap against the doorway. ]
All work and no play, hm? [ a terse smile. the music reminds her a little of greensleeves. ]
Re: ( action )
[ Vanyel feels there is little to hide on the ship. So long as they respected each other's private quarters when the doors were closed, the ship reminded him much of the Collegium grounds - open to all. It was far to small to try and fight over every square inch, though they all needed some little nook to call their own. ]
If one can call this work, I believe I am in the wrong profession - both here and in my own world.
You are our new crew mate, correct?
( action )
a little more tactfully: ] I am. Peggy Carter, if you like.
[ approaches near enough to offer a hand. ]
Re: ( action )
[ He's from an era where such sayings weren't so common, and he can be prone to taking things literally. Sorry Peggy. He is a quick learner though. He smiled at her in return, though he thought something was off about hers - reserved, perhaps, the smile of a courtier in a strange court without friends. ]
Vanyel Ashkevron. A pleasure to meet you, Lady Carter.
[ He didn't think she had a title, but he had learned that it amused most women he met, and so he added it and was quite sincere about it. He took her hand, but instead of shaking, he cupped it and kissed the back. All with a perfectly straight face. ]
Have you been settling in well on our little ship?

Phedre smiles at him, through the camera, slightly sad.]
I have a poem that we say, when we have been far from home.

[ It is not hard for him to pick out the sadness in her look. He did not even have to use his empathetic powers. ]
Yes? I would love to hear it, if it is something you are allowed to share.

It was written by the Kings Poet, Thelesis de Mornay, when she was trapped in a land far from our own. It is called the Exile's Lament
[She takes a brief moment to compose herself, glancing away from the camera and shielding her eyes with her lashes.
When she returns her gaze, it is focused on the lense instead of his image, speaking to his as best she can manage.]
Beneath the golden balm Settling in the fields Evening steals in calm And farmers count their yields. The bee is in the lavander, The honey fills the comb, But here a rain falls never-ending And I am far from home.

Man, why'd I have to be wearing all the winter shit? I coulda brought some records to the place.

[ He laughed softly, enjoying the other man's enthusiasm. ]
Slow down, Ray. You're going to have to explain some of those. I have never heard of them. Though the Sex Pistols sounds dangerous...

It's all classic rock, punk- the early, good stuff, y'know? It's what I grew up with.
