Good afternoon, everyone! If I may have your attention please. Do you have a musical talent that you have been YEARNING to stretch for months? Or maybe you are itching to learn how to play or sing and express yourself through the undeniable power of song!

[ she emphasizes this with a dramatic flourish of her arms. ] So! I was wondering if anyone out there in the fleet would be interested in joining a musical group with me and Steven! You don't have to have an instrument. You don't even need to know how to play! You just need a desire to create a song from the heart. We could even use spare parts from our ships to make new instruments! Doesn't that sound fun?

[ it sounds fun. you know it does. ]

Aside from that...I've also been wondering about starting a garden. I know it probably sounds silly, because - space! But I've always wanted to start one, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone had any ideas.

Oh! Well, there's lots of different styles of music, based on what kind of harmonies and rhythms you use, or what sorts of instruments you're playing, or even what the songs are about. There aren't always clear divisions between genres - and I don't think there should be - it's just a convenient way to talk about the difference and similarities in various songs.

I see! I had no idea! I just always thought of music as - well, music.

[ she would love to learn about the classification, though. ]

[She chuckles.] Nothing wrong with that! It just means you'll be more open to exploration!

So how could I learn about all the different genres? Do you have any books about it?

I don't, not here anyway. And I don't have any recordings of any music either... perhaps if we ask around the fleet? I know Allen has a couple of recordings, so maybe some other people have gotten hold of some as well. Or you could check the library!
