[ Nova is hanging out in the galley, staring at the ceiling, with some partially eaten protein paste on the table in front of her ]

Is it just me, or is this even more prison-like than before? Because that's what we needed.

[ sigh. why everything. ]

[He glances over at her. He ought to introduce himself to his new crewmates, he thinks, but it's easier in thought than practice. Remus hesitates for a long moment before taking a seat across from her.]

I suppose a few coats of paint might help, but the pipes are rather off-putting, aren't they? My name is Remus. I'm new here.

[ oh. hey. she's an intrinsically awkward person, so she feeds off of his energy, while trying to be lighthearted ]

Hey. There are some new faces, yeah.

And it'd probably take not, you know, being in space for this place to not feel like a jail cell to me.

[If they try and meet halfway maybe they can do this. Remus smiles at her-- nervous, yeah, but trying.]

I try not to ask for the impossible. Have you been here long?

A few months, and I was somewhere else before here. I mean, somewhere not my world. It was called Aather.

[He blinks. He's adapted himself to the thought that people are from different worlds-- it isn't such a far-fetched thought, after all-- but it's a little startling to hear that someone's jumped from world to world.]

I, ah-- I'm sorry. It can't be easy, to be so far from home.

[ she snorts a little, studying her drink ]

Believe me, all this is an improvement.

Do you want to talk about it? Or-- I can tell you a bit about myself.

It's a lot to talk about.

What's your world like?

We're at war, for starters. And, ah-- magic.

[He feels a prickle of panic at mentioning it-- but if James is going around enchanting snowmen, it's clearly not a secret any longer.]

Technically, I'm a wizard.

Yeah? We don't have magic in my world, but Aather had a lot of it, and I've seen some here, too.

[Well, that's him taught. He'd been gearing himself up to explain magic to the muggle, using terms as simple as possible-- and she already knows it. It's a good reminder not to assume.]

Right, well. It's a magic war, obviously. Over those who have it and those who don't.

[ she'd never claim to understand it with any depth but, eh, unexplainable things happen. ]

[ he bumps her shoulder with his. it's clearly a joke - he doesn't mean it. no real point in hopping from one sort-of prison to another, right? ]

Somehow I don't think it'll really make a difference. Anyway, I'm getting used to our crewmates.

[ leans against him ]

[ he slides his arm around her, idly tugging her up against his side. ]

As long as you're not bonding too much with Isaac.

[ is amenable to this, closing her eyes a moment before responding ]

Um, no. Whatever the opposite of that is. He's really weird, Stiles.

[ and stiles snorts a little at that, as if relishing the validation there. ]

I mean, he's not too bad, but... whatever. Why'd they have to bring him?

[ aka: he's not scott. ]

Because we don't get a choice in who comes and goes?

So you guys are friends?

[ stiles considers this for a moment, then nods. ]

Yeah, we're friends. We just don't like each other very much.

What's that supposed to mean? I thought one of the foundations of being friends was at least liking each other a little.

You would think.

[ cheerfully. ]

He's kind of an ass.

[ is a bit bewildered yet entertained ]

He's just so -

[ stiles makes a face. ]

And he - I don't know. He's a jerk. And his head is huge. Like - literally and metaphorically, okay, it's weird.
