[someone else is wandering around in the woods as well, but they're not singing. they're actually being quite silent, and their presence blends very well with the natural beat of the forest. even under the ice there is the decay of leaves and loam--however slow it might be. his kingdom might be frozen over, but it's still there somewhere.

so, when she happens upon Tek--still dressed in his usual and absolutely not suited for this weather--it's rather out of nowhere.

just standing tall and straight and watching for when she comes into view. she has announced her presence very well, after all.]

[She cuts off the singing when he comes into view. She's still casually hucking the gun. It doesn't come out or anything, though. She squints at him, keeping on in his general direction until she recognizes him in the snowblind.]

Well, well, well... look who's up and about.

Yes, I am feeling much better.

[he huffs a breath--the first one to show up in a cloud against the cold.]

And what are you up to, on this fine winter day? [--nodding toward the gun.]

Ohhh, that depends on what I see. A bear, you can imagine... [She nods to him as she passes; he's welcome to walk with her but she wants to keep moving. Keep the blood flowing in this cold.]

After all you never know what could turn up!

[eh, he might as well. there's an apathetic delay, but he finally steps away from the shelter of the nearest tree and out into the deeper snow.]

So you're not trying to hunt anything.

Nope. [Not at the moment. She's just out.] But who wants to stay on those ships when there's a planet to be out on, huh? We'll be entombed again soon enough.

[he shrugs up his shoulders in an unsettled way.]

...Do you have to phrase it that way? I'd like to not be reminded of my imprisonment.

Let's be realistic! [She laughs.] That's what it is. But I've had worse. I'd be delighted to be here if I hadn't been stolen wholesale...

[And if she hadn't left something very important behind at home.

Jeez, she is sort of becoming disappointed in this forest though. Where are all the little birds and creatures... they arrive at the shore of a frozen pond, the snow smoothing out into a plane. Hange tests it with a foot and decides to go around instead, her own breath puffing into the frigid air.]

My previous prisons were better than this one, I've decided. There's something thoroughly unsettling about not being connected to the ground for so long...

[and he pauses... mostly to see if she's going to fall through the ice. and there's a little sigh when she doesn't.]

...And when we do settle on solid ground again, it's places like this.

I don't like it.

Why not? [Just tossing that question out there lightly. It all reminds her of the old days... being a recruit, struggling with winter training... she leans her head back, exhales. Even the steam, just like home. Though she's had better company for forays outside.]

I hope we stop off near an ocean sometime. I'd like to see that.

[ugh, he offers a little sound of disgust at the mention of the ocean, too. another thing he doesn't like.]

There's nothing for me up there. Connected to nothing. It makes me feel...

[tipping his head one way while he considers. it's all harmless-enough information for someone who already knows that he's something far from human, and being able to complain about it is kind of nice.]

[She keeps walking, thinking about that. Connected...]

Fascinating... does it have anything to do with that clammy aura that's hanging around you?

I wouldn't call it clammy.

...But yes, probably.

It's a buzzing, growing, bristly, living feeling.

[She steps closer to him... grinning.]

[ha, he grimaces a little through his smile. it's still somehow a mostly-goodnatured expression though.]

[She leans in closer, keeping the muzzle of the gun pointed skywards still.]

As far as I'm concerned there are advantages to being quick-living, furry, living, growing, buzzing and mammalian.

Exactly.

[She grins. Hange is far more wolflike than ratlike, in many ways. And then turns and sets off across the snow again as if they weren't just being completely creepy at each other.]

[he's still voting ratlike, but he's well aware of just how clever and vicious rats can really be.]

It's not my style, personally... but I find it more admirable than many of my kind do, at least.

It's a fascinating struggle to watch.
