[Honestly, he would have wondered if his guy was hitting on him- hell, maybe he did even think that]

[But those thoughts get thrown on the wayside when he realizes he recognizes the guy stepping out of the shadow. In fact his calm expression betrays just the slightest of surprise. He hadn't known this guy arrived here]

Hey you're-

Lea? [A beat] Or is it something else these days?

[The surprise is gone almost as quickly as it's there, but Axel doesn't miss it. The smallest change in expression can read like a book, and Axel's always been an avid reader, but it's not until the man says that name that a flicker of surprise crosses his own face.

[Lea? There's a name he hasn't heard in the better part of a decade. How the hell does this guy know that name? He's certain he's never seen him before in his life, and he rarely forgets a face. His eyes narrow slightly, and he lifts his chin, frowning.]

Introductions usually start with you giving your own name, not guessing that of your company. I guess I never was much for tradition, though. [He waves one hand.] I dunno any Lea--my name's Axel. Should I guess yours? Maybe I'll just call ya Red.

[Guessing games or not, who is this guy, and where did he hear that name?]

[The look of surprise on Le- Axel's face is enough to tell Kaneis what he needs to know. Whoever this guy was, Lea or Axel, he didn't know who Kaneis was. Just like Riku, it wasn't the guy that he knew]

[Great. But could be worse, at least he wasn't calling him Zelos. Still, it sucks that he made the same slip so many have done to him. Ugh.]

[But past that initial surprise, he does his best to keep it cool. He prefers it that way, after all. So he just wrinkles his nose at the nickname]

You should know better than to stoop to that cliche. [Seriously man, seriously] But alright. It's Kaneis. Kaneis Major.

[Something is very very odd here. The way this guy takes a moment to process Axel's name leaves him wondering if maybe they have met--it's like he's trying to line something up that doesn't quite fit together. No one should have known that name, he hadn't gone by it in ten years. Unless this guy came from Radiant Garden or something... no way, he definitely would have remembered someone like this.

[Shoving his hands into the pockets of his coat, Axel regards Kaneis a moment, then ventures a slightly crooked smile.]

Cliché's a cliché for a reason: if the shoe fits, you know? Nice to meet you, Kaneis Major. [Or have they already met? He supposes only time will tell.] Don't worry, I'm not here for your munny. I just happened to notice you seem to have an unusual abhorrence for snowmen. I figured there had to be a good story there.

[Ah. Right. He had forgotten Lea/Axel was a bit of a busybody. And if anything, saying that other name probably is going to make him more insufferable about it than usual. Still, not many people notice that little quirk. He could give him props for being observant]

[Still, that doesn't mean he wasn't going to give him the details. He shoves his hands in his coat pocket and gives him a smile ]

Oh, it sure is. But I'm afraid it's not one I share with people I just met- even if they do look like someone I've met before. Can't waste my best material right away, you know?

['Busybody' is such a strong word! He's just plain nosy. When Kaneis won't spill the story, though, he just sort of smiles.]

I guess that's only fair: no sense giving up the ghost right at the beginning.

[He gives him a curious look, apparently not even peeved that he's not getting that story just yet.]

So have you been here long? Not here here, I mean... on this weird TV show.

Exactly.

[Yes good. He's rather glad he's not being pressed to tell his tragic backstory. People need to reach level 7 social rank to get that one anyway]

I guess? I think it's been about two months. It's hard keeping track in space.

[Axel would agree--you don't just tell the tragic backstory to any Tom, Dick, or Harry. In fact, he's never shared his. The fact that the founding members of the Organization know it doesn't count: they were there when it happened.]

Does it get less weird? Or... I dunno, maybe it got more weird. I still don't really get it, but it sounds like more fun than what I was doing back home.

That...would depend on your definition of weird. I mean it's been pretty strange for me, but not the weirdest stuff I've seen.

[Axel puts a hand on his chin in thought. That's true: weird is relative. So in a relative sense, was this or was this not stranger than an anthropomorphic talking duck not wearing any pants?]

You make a valid point. I'm pretty sure it's not the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me, either.

[Losing his heart and being split into two pieces, that might take the cake on the weirdest thing that had ever happened to him, traumatic though it may have been. This was followed closely by being turned into a merman on a mission to Atlantica, which he had hated with a passion.]

All right, let me rephrase: does it ever start to make any more sense?

[Hey to be fair- would it really have been any less weird if that anthropomorphic talking duck HAD been wearing pants?]

Hmmm. [He considers, tapping his chin] A little? You get used to it anyway......then again, people tend to get used to anything.

Another valid point. [Seems this guy is full of them. All the more reason to make sure to keep an eye on him.] I guess I'll just have to adapt. [He can do that. He always has.

[He gives Kaneis a thin smile, then.]

I do want to hear the snowman story one day. [He tilts his head and shrugs one shoulder.] So I'm gonna make it my mission to get it out of you eventually. Any tips?

Yeah. Guess you'll have to.

[There's a pause there. Honestly, giving anyone the snowman story was the last thing he wanted to do. And even if he once got along well with Lea...Axel...whoever he was, this rubs him the wrong way. He can't put his finger, but it reminds him of home...and not in a good way]

...I like seafood, but not octopus.

[Sorry Kaneis, Axel definitely isn't Lea, and he's got a ways to go before he'll ever get there. Bear with him--he's got the potential to not be an asshole, he just hasn't had much incentive up til now.

There's a beat of silence, and then Axel barks a sharp laugh. That was not the answer he was expecting.]

I like you, you're interesting. [He knows when someone's uncomfortable, though, and Kaneis definitely seems uncomfortable. Usually that would be Axel's cue to push a little harder--people can be pretty cooperative when you keep them uncomfortable--but he's not under orders here, and he'd rather get to know this one than scare him off.] I'll leave you to get back to your walk, then. [He turns on his heel and waves a hand over his head, a little tongue of flame curling between his fingers as he does so.] Stay warm~

Thanks...I guess. [But yep. He figured that was an answer he was not expecting- which is why exactly he gave it. He's still really not sure what to make of this new development, he'll have to talk about it to Riku probably. He stares at Axel's back and the little tongue of fire. Wow. That's the sort of thing he does with his fire. He has no idea how arrogant it looked]

And yeah...you too.

[But, with that over with, he'll turn away once Axel is a far enough distance and start continuing his way]
