[On New Year's Day, the crew on board the Windrose and those nearby may notice the chill as the doors to the cargo bay are left open, and their captain making quite a bit of noise as she inspects their newly expanded home away from home. This is likely to go on for a while. Feel free to come investigate, chat among yourselves, complain about the cold, etc!]

[Leia's on the bridge at the time, trying to get more familiar with her communications console, and she doesn't quite get out of the way in time. GREAT, MORE CONFETTI IN HER BRAIDS.

But that's not this woman's fault, even if she's loopy enough to want to spin around in the cloud of paper, and Leia's polite enough in offering a hand as she comes over to her.]

You must be our new crew member. Welcome.

[Oh! Misty sets the bowl down on the nearest surface, takes the spoon out of her mouth, and gives Leia a big old smile. This woman... why, her aura's just full of light and good vibes. Misty immediately feels she can trust her. Switching the spoon to her other hand, she takes Leia's hand, giving it a surprisingly firm shake for such an airy looking woman.]

I'm Misty. Pleased to meet you!

I'm Leia. It's a pleasure.

[She doesn't get anything in particular from the woman's aura or vibes, but Misty does has a pleasant enough smile--and handshake.]

What will you be doing on the Windrose?

Maintenance, or so this thing in my head says. Not sure why... I'm not exactly what you'd call a tech expert. I'm better with living things, plants and trees and animals and what have you. Guess there's not much of that in space though, is there?

Not in space itself. [As she speaks, she picks out a bit of paper that's tickling at her ear. The others can wait until she's somewhere private.] But we could make space for a plant or two on the ship.

Really? That would be awful nice. Ain't right to be separated from nature all the time, you know? Besides, I know how to make lots of useful stuff from plants.

Really? [That catches Leia's attention, lots of useful stuff. She privately agrees that space gets a little barren, but she's gotten used to it over the years.] What kinds of things can you make?

[mistyday]

Mostly food and medicine - you know, like ointments and teas and stuff. But there's all sorts of other things we could do: make dye and string and oil and soap... I can even make a potion that will make the other plants grow faster.

[Potions for other things too but probably best not announce that just yet.]

[Leia's expression brightens.]

We could use your skills. No one aboard has a medical augment, so the supplies are...limited. Even basic medicine would be an improvement.

Well, I'd be happy to help! I know loads more about healin' than mechanics anyway.

[Pause.]

Not that I won't do my part, you see. I want this to be the best new home it can be. It's already got a lot better vibes than the place I come from.

It must have been a pretty ugly place.

[Sure, the Fleet ranks higher than Jabba's Palace for Leia, but she can't think of many other places in the galaxy that are less desirable than "trapped on ships in an unrecognizable stretch of space."]

[Her face falls.]

It... there was no place for me there.

[Lord knows Cordelia tried to make one for her, but Misty's had enough time to think on the Marsiva to know she should have never agreed to stay with that Coven.]

I'm sorry. [There's genuine sympathy in her voice now, even if her last comment was rather glib. It really must have been bad.] There's a place for you here, at least. We're lucky to have someone with healing knowledge.

[mistyday]

You really mean it?

[She gives a sad little laugh and gestures at Leia with her spoon.]

I mean, 'course you do, you got goodness written all over you.

[Of all the answers Leia expected to hear, that one was nowhere on the list. Her brows go up, expression faintly amused.]

Do I really?

[mistyday]

[Her smile returning, Misty nods, then steps closer to the other woman and draws an outline of Leia's form with her free hand.]

You got this... light around you. I mean, I can't see it... more like I can feel it, in my bones. It's real strong too. You know exactly what you're about.

You're Force-sensitive.

[That's what it sounds like to her, anyway, from everything Luke's told her. This isn't quite the same as how he'd speak, but maybe the woman isn't familiar with the Jedi Order.]

What do you mean, "Force-sensitive?"

[imahologram]

[Luckily, Leia's already had to make this explanation once before. It makes her answer come a little more quickly this time.]

The Force makes up the universe and everything in it. If you're sensitive to it, you can learn to manipulate it--and to observe it in others.

[mistyday]

So... like magic?

[imahologram]

[No, she wants to say. Magic is superstition and nonsense. But she remembers what the Force looks like to people unaccustomed with it and looks for a more politic response.]

...You could say so.

[mistyday]

[Good thing you went for politic there Leia because magic is definitely real in Misty's world.]

I knew it! I knew you had to have some magic in you, to glow like that. Guess they don't call you witches where you come from though.

[It's technically real in Leia's world, too! Just...provincial backwater understandings of the Force. Uh.]

Oh, no. Trained Force-users are Jedi...if they work with the light side of the Force, anyway.

And if they're not?

[Leia's expression darkens.]

Then they're Sith. Word of advice: If anyone introduces themselves to you as Darth Something, stay away.
