[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

[ He grimaces, remembering Tatooine. ]

I highly doubt that. For many reasons.

[ She chuckles. ]

Though, with all the salt in the air here, it's a wonder more of this stuff isn't completely rusted out.

Yes . . . I wonder if there are some differences in the environment that allow for it. Hoth does allow technology to work, albeit with some difficulty.

Maybe. Atmospheric, or air composition. Hard to say, and anyway, I'm just a pilot, not a scientist. And I've never been to Hoth. Hopefully never will.

[ She shivers a little. ]

My master often threatened to maroon me there. He had an . . . eclectic sense of humour.

[ The scientist in him is curious to learn the difference between the planets and whether it's a characteristic of this galaxy. The more he learns, the better equipped he is. ]

Still, it would be nice if we could take planet-wide scans.

[ Hera laughs faintly. Okay, that's a little less like a Jedi and a little more like a person. Then again, her view of Jedi is more than a little colored by those rose-colored glasses she had on as a child. ]

Still too cold for my tastes. But if there were some nice, isolated cave systems...

[ And if this place wasn't so far from their own galaxy. Hey, she had been scouting for a base before getting dumped here. ]

Why cave systems?

[ For a base? A stop-over? . . . What is it that the Ghost does? ]

Oh, you know. Storage.

[ For all those rebels. ]

I may not have told you the whole story earlier. I was trying to be circumspect. Mostly. A lot of what I do is... classified.

[ But, he's a Jedi. And, as far as she can tell, they are actually quite far away from the reach of the Empire. And she's told a few others, anyway. ]

[ How convenient. ]

Then you need not tell me. It's not that much of a surprise.

It's also not that much of a secret, here or back home. Anymore.

[ Yeah, the Empire knows their faces now, anyway. Woops. It was inevitable, really. The bigger the rebellion gets, the more the Empire will take notice. ]

No, I suppose these things have a way of coming out.

[ Certainly, people have tried, but Obi-Wan has ferreted out most of the secrets around. ]

Well, you Jedi can cheat.

[ That's a joke, sort of, and she smiles faintly. ]

That implies we follow the same rules, though.

How different can they be? [ She's actually sort of curious - she's just seen some of what Kanan does with Ezra, but it's not like he ever sat her down and explained everything to her. But Jedi are the good guys, so - yeah, curious. ]

Well, that depends on your Code and the Jedi Code, of course. And even then, we don't uphold it as staunchly as we need to - leeway is given for difficult situations.

[ Like a war, for example. Still, Qui-Gon operated with the Jedi Code quite liberally and Obi-Wan didn't always agree with him. ]

All I remember of the Jedi is that they help people. Which I guess is what I try to do. Just... without the Force.

[ The Jedi Mace Windu certainly helped her people back when she was a kid. ]

And that's correct.

[ He folds his arms under his cloak. ]

The Jedi serve the people and the Force guides our actions. However, our Code is important lest it leads us to the Dark. Attacking in anger, fear or hatred would lend our powers to the opposite. We would stop helping people and end up only helping ourselves.

Right. That's what - [ That's what Kanan has been trying to teach Ezra, she almost says. And maybe he's trying to teach himself, too, a little. ]

That makes a certain kind of sense, I guess. I mean, in a tight situation, you have to stay calm if you want to make the right choices. Still, it's got to be tough.

[ The Empire does so much to make her angry. ]

It's tough not to just lash out sometimes, even when you know it won't actually solve anything.

It is difficult, but it has to be done. Jedi have more power than anyone else. A single Jedi can tip the scales to many conflicts, even the galaxy itself.

[ His voice is firm. ]

It doesn't matter how badly you've been hurt. The minute you succumb, you're a danger to everyone.

Mm, and we all know how easy it is for power to corrupt.

[ She sees it every day, in the Imperial agents. ]

But you also can't stop people from feeling things. Especially children. That kind of control takes a lot of work, I imagine.

[ Especially for someone like Ezra, who's lost so much. ]

[ He sighs. He keeps hearing this and he's debating whether it's worth making an announcement about the Jedi.

Jedi do not renounce feelings. Or say you should not feel them. Anger, love, even hate are normal experiences and should be experienced. What they shouldn't do is fester until all you know is anger and hate.

[ Hera smiles faintly. ]

You sound like you get that a lot. A common misconception?

Exceedingly common. Especially now, when people know so little of the Jedi.

Well, it can be easy to misinterpret. Especially if you're a kid, I imagine. Everything is just so intense when you're a teenager.

That only really applies to those not Temple-raised. That's why we start young.
