[The bunks are filling up, but the new faces just keep appearing!

Are you a travel-weary passenger having trouble keeping your crew roster straight? Perhaps you are a fresh new recruit, finding themselves dumped into a new (and much less shiny) home. Or, maybe you've been around for a little bit and just haven't bothered meeting the other weirdos on this ship yet--what is their problem, anyway?

All new passengers from the last few Shuffles, especially those who haven't met their crews yet, are welcome to post starter-comments here to invite those living on and visiting your ship to come and interact. Newbies could be just arriving on the ship, busying around where others can find them, or you can offering multiple options for interaction--however you'd like to set up your thread is fine. Just make sure to include the name of your ship in the header, so your crewmates can easily find you!

Everyone else-- go meet those newbies! Whether they are new to your own crew, or on ships you frequently visit, now is a great time to bump into them.]

[Whenever Kitty eventually finds her way to the kitchen, she'll find a barefoot hippie girl, long blonde hair tied back with a scarf, happily at work mixing some sort of concoction. Plant bits and mud and various containers litter the counter where she's working. Hearing Kitty come in, Misty looks up and smiles.]

Hey! You must be one of our new crewmates! I'm Misty.

[She brushes a stray strand of hair off her forehead.]

Sorry for the mess. Bet you're lookin' for some real food ain't you?

I am. [It almost sounds like she's asking. More because she's questioning everything she's seeing right now, not because she doesn't know she's crew now.]

Kitty.

Are you making food? ...With mud? [That wasn't considered food in either of the worlds she's been in.]

[Misty laughs.]

This? No, I'm makin' a potion. The real food's in the fridge. You tried the bacon kelp yet? It's really good!

I, no. Why would you do that to bacon? [Priorities. Bacon ranked above potion talk slightly.]

What kind of potion?

[mistyday]

We didn't do anything to the bacon. It's this weird kelp that just naturally tastes like that. Seriously, you should try some.

[Misty stops stirring for a minute, wiping her hands on a nearby towel.]

It's a potion for growth, for Vision's plants.

Huh. [She misses prison food. That seems wrong.]

As in chemicals that will stimulate growth or as in actual magic?

[mistyday]

Actual magic.

[Kitty might as well know, if they're going to be living together. Misty's a little less jumpy about it now anyway, seeing how many other magic folk there are in the fleet and how even the non-magical people don't seem too bothered by their presence.]

I'm a witch.

[Kitty didn't have much connection to witches back home unless you count the Scarlet Witch and she wasn't really a witch. She also died before Kitty was really with the team, but people still talked about her. But she did know a couple at the place she went in between home and here.]

I'm a mutant. [Seems only fair.]

A mutant?

[Don't look like she's got any extra heads to Misty.]

What do you mean? Were you in an accident or something?

[Misty only vaguely remembers Chernobyl, but it was everywhere on the news: even a four year old will notice something like that.]

No. [Though the question does remind her of Peter Parker explaining how he wasn't a mutant. Kitty still kinds of thinks maybe the two things just happened to coincide. A radioactive spider? Seriously?] I was born like this though powers don't usually set in until puberty.

It just means I have a genetic mutation that gives me abilities humans don't have.

Oh! That sounds kinda like how my powers work too. What kind of stuff can you do?

I call it phasing. I can make myself intangible at will. [She'll just slip a hand through the table to demonstrate.] So being a witch is something you're born into where you're from? [Actually it was that way for all the witches she'd met in the prison too.]

[mistyday]

Yeah. Apparently I'm the descendant of one of the Salem Witches. You know about them?

I do, but I don't think they were actually witches in our history. Just women who got persecuted.

[mistyday]

How do you know they weren't really witches?

[passingthrough]

I guess I don't. Most people with powers I know of at home are mutants, but I've heard of magic users.

[mistyday]

[Misty shrugs.]

The rules are all so weird for all these worlds, I have a hard time keepin' track. Hell, I barely even learned my own rules... I didn't meet anybody else like me until recently.

Here or at home? [Because that is rough. The time before she knew other mutants was probably the hardest. Though there were some other reasons for that too.]

At home. I found a Coven... Or they found me, I don't know. I mean, I always knew I couldn't be the only one out there, you know? But it was real lonely.

Any witches here? [Because it seems like it would still be lonely. It was lonely being the only mutant for awhile at the prison. Not much better when the only other one was a version of herself.]

Oh yeah, and warlocks too! Or well, some of them call themselves wizards or mages, but the name’s not the important part. We all got magic and I’ve been learning a lot from them. ‘Course, not everyone’s magic works the same… you know some people actually have to have wands? Like it’s Cinderella or something! It’s real amazin’ though, all the stuff they can do with them, way more than I can do.

Does their magic sparkle too? Big puffs of colorful smoke? [Or maybe Misty's is.]

Sometimes. Depends on the spell, I think.

Really? I was kind of joking. Is there rhyming? One of the witches I knew at the prison rhymed all her spells.

Not that I’ve heard so far… it’s mostly spells in Latin. A lot of mine are too. So I guess that’s one thing that’s the same in a lot of universes.
