[ It's another day, another planet for the Drift Fleet to explore. Whether it be relaxing in the landing field, checking out the spa (and subsequently getting urged to enter the woods), or taking on the Enchanted Forest's game, there's enough to do for stir-crazy Fleet members.

Just remember one thing: make it look good. ]

Yeah, that's what I meant. [ Not exactly, his other shipmate has some kind of magic too, but it's close enough. He walks alongside her as before, still sneaking looks every now and then to take in her whole form. ] So you're... a fairy?

[she... brushes off the front of her dress, self-conscious. it looks like it belongs in an old attic. not exactly fresh-off-the-runway, here.]

Yeah, uh. I'm a fairy. A Sluagh, specifically. One of the Kithain, and all that.

[ What's that supposed to mean? As for attic-appropriate, it's fine. Not exactly standard wear for anyone in his type of magical circles — it's either robes or something actually modern — but he really doesn't feel like making a fuss of silly costumes right now. ]

I don't really know that much about fairies. Not exactly my area of study.

That's... Uh, probably a good thing? They aren't exactly like, hanging out in the open. At least on the Earth where I'm from.

You totally seem magical, though. You're like... [she gestures vaguely... but decides maybe she shouldn't describe exactly what it's like in case she's wrong. or offensive.]

Same here. Magic is kind of... if you don't know about it, you probably never will. We keep it hidden to keep ourselves safe.

[ He tilts his head at the gesturing, brows furrowed at her in confusion. If he seems magical, can she tell his magic isn't exactly normal? ] Like... what? Just say it.

[she nods a little to the first bit, and to the second...]

Uh, well... Mostly kind of mage-y. But also a little demon-y? It's hard to say.

[she's fudging it to be nice, of course. she can sense both powers distinctly.]

[ Chris pauses, head tilts to the side, then slowly nods and shrugs while he begins to move forward again. ]

Those are some pretty tuned senses you've got.

Maaagic fairy powers. [she... laughs, even if it's small.] They get me in trouble a lot, bet you couldn't imagine why.

Trust me, I know way too well how magic would get someone in trouble.

It's not hurting you or anything, right? To be forced out like that?

[she will politely not ask what he is... because for all she knows he's some mage-demon with a terrible past and weird parenting and doesn't want to talk about it (and she does not yet know how true this is...)]

Oh. So it's like... [ He makes a vague, unhelpful gesture then trails off. ] Never mind. Just make sure you keep your eyes on the path, all right? We're probably going to start hitting snags soon.

Hm...? [she looks up at him... and then back to the path!] Oh, right. That thing with the magical distractions, yeah.

Pretty sure if you fall off, you bypass go, don't collect two hundred dollars, all that. You get sent back to start.

Still, that must suck if you've been travelling for ages only to get zapped back to the--

[a voice suddenly calls out across the path, as a four-foot-tall bipedal pig in a chainmail shirt (with a sword made of lightning strapped to his back) rushes up to the path.]

Miss Sir! Miss Sir, you're needed in the forest!

[...and Krista... just... stares......]

Chris steps back once, his head tilting to the side just so, enough to remind anyone of a particularly confused puppy. After a moment, he turns to regard Krista. ]

Miss Sir?

Thaaaat's me. Hey, Barnabus.

[she says, to the short pig-kid who is trying to get her to come with him:]

Look, I can't. I'm on a spirit quest. You're probably not even a real thing.

[she turns to Chris and points to the pig--] Does he seem like a real thing to you?

You really must! A dragon is destroying the town just on the other side, Headmaster Thorne needs your help!

[ Which says a lot coming from Chris. He looks unimpressed at the pig's attempt to pull her away. ]

There's no town on the other side of anything.

Yeah... Sorry buddy, you're an illusion.

[so she'll just... walk away! her expression is sad, for a second, as the pig-boy tries to tell them something else, but she quickly steels herself and starts walking forward again. she knows how magic forests work. she's not getting tricked. it'd be dumb to get tricked by something that obvious, right?]

[ Chris walks along, glancing back just for a moment to see the illusion gone almost as soon as Krista's got her handle on things. ]

Not bad. Guess it helps to know the tricks beforehand, huh?

Yeah... [there's kind of a distant pause from her... before she adds something onto the end of it, because yeah! she's totally not bothered by this at all.] The last time I went on one of these, this "Big Bad Wolf" followed us around for like, hours. Would say all kinds of stuff to try and get us to leave.

This kind of thing happen to you a lot?

[ Not that Chris has room to talk. Enchanted forests are new, but weird magical stuff? Yeah, sure. ]

Uh, kinda! Me and my friends went through the dreaming a lot... All sorts of fairy-tale stuff happens in the dreaming all the time...

[her weird magical stuff is so day-to-day that it isn't even weird for her anymore.]

The dreaming? Like... peoples' dreams?

It's... a magical realm right next to reality, where fairies live. It's where magic comes from. Imagination, too, and dreams. And nightmares. And I guess a bunch of other stuff.

[ Okay. Chris lets that roll around a bit in his head, tries to place it parallel to earth instead of above or below like Up There or the Underworld. It kind of makes sense. ]

So it's the nonphysical world to go with the physical.
