BROADCAST N/A
ACTION Enchanted Forest / Spa Time
WHEN Upon reaching the system (Jan. 4) to leaving it (Jan. 31)

[ It's another day, another planet for the Drift Fleet to explore. Whether it be relaxing in the landing field, checking out the spa (and subsequently getting urged to enter the woods), or taking on the Enchanted Forest's game, there's enough to do for stir-crazy Fleet members.

Just remember one thing: make it look good. ]

Fancy~ Seems that's one thing we've got in common, though my methods aren't quite as flashy. [Literally. He uses corridors of darkness, so. It's pretty much exactly the opposite.] Standard travel options are overrated.

[He nods then, sliding his communicator into his pocket.] Sure, I can prolly put a couple games on yours, if you want. [A sly grin.] It'll cost you a brownie, though.

Well, maybe those people just aren't prepared to be extraordinary.

[Yes, score one, brownies are gonna happen. He looks pleased, and lifts his chin a little, regarding Chris seriously.] So, I gotta ask... you said the powers you were talking about were something you had'a be born with, right? So magic isn't a skill just anybody can learn, where you come from?

[He makes a 'hmm' sound and looks thoughtful for a moment.] Magic isn't something you are, so much as something you do, where I come from. Obviously some people are better at it than others, and some magic is a lot harder to master, but so far as I know, anybody can learn how to do it.

It's like any other skill, I would say: some folks just have more of a talent for it, others just find they don't really have much of a knack for it at all, but as far as I know anybody can do it. You learn spells, and can expand on them once you've got the basics down. [He holds one hand up and calls a flame to his palm, sort of rolling his wrist as though he were swirling wine in a glass.] Lot'a elemental stuff, mostly, but there's some spells that can affect someone's health, or even temporarily affect time.

[He's not too good at Time magic, but he's not about to own up to that.]

[Axel looks impressed by the fireball, grinning as it spins. He gives a low whistle, then extinguishes his own flame.]

Nice. Looks a little different than my brand, I like it!

Secret? [He rubs his chin.] Mm, not everybody utilizes magic, and there are definitely places where it's not as common, but I've never had to not use magic because it'd scare people. [The Organization thrives on discretion, but magic has never been a specific no-no.]

So how does magic work back home for you? Do people have like... specialties? Does it run in families?
got_it_memorized: (let me give you a hint...)

I'm sure there are places where magic might be met with something like that... so I guess it is lucky I haven't been to them. [He's not familiar with any world called Salem, but burning witches sounds a little harsh. Oh, sure, he burned a coworker alive, but Vexen was an asshole. Burning someone alive just for using magic? There was no call for that...

[He nods slowly, taking this in.]

Telekinesis, that'd be handy. There are some gravity-manipulation spells that could probably be tweaked to accomplish something like that, but I've never met anybody who could just move stuff with their mind before. That's impressive stuff. Premonitions'd be pretty handy, too.

[He turns and waves one hand to open a portal. Corridors of Darkness are tricky things: they aren't so much teleportation as they are a utilization of the space between spaces. A black maw opens up, tall as a man and wide enough to walk through, surrounded by a swirl of black and silver tendrils that look almost like the branches of a bramblebush.]

These are my preferred method of transportation. [He steps into the whorling portal and it vanishes, leaving Chris standing there alone for a moment. Then there's a whooshing sound and another opens up about ten feet away from where the first one was, and Axel steps back through. He waves it away and puts his hands on his hips.] Not quite as shiny as yours, but whatever gets the job done.

I guess I could have said 'shimmery', but that feels a bit redundant, given the name, apparently.

[He cups his elbow in one hand and taps his chin with the other.]

Mm... think of it as, utilizing the space you can't see. There's more to what's around you than what's right in front of you, and if you poke a hole from one space to the next, you can usually find a faster route to Point B. [He wags a finger then.] It has its downsides, though. Without protection, it can be really dangerous to use that space.

[Axel makes a vague gesture at himself.]

Like a coat, actually, not to put too fine a point on it. This thing's functional beyond being stylish--it protects me from the effects of the corridors. [He looks thoughtful for a moment.] There might be other methods of protecting yourself, but I don't actually know any specifically.
