I was trying to think of a better way to ask this, but I realized it doesn't matter, does it? If the Atroma really watch our every move... [He cocks his head to the side, a tiny shrug.] Well, you know.

Anyway, I've heard of people disappearing from the fleet. Have you ever noticed anyone disappearing after doing something that might have made the Atroma angry? [Someone's feeling ballsy today. The defiant smirk on his face kind of backs up that interpretation.]

[He almost shuts the feed off before remembering-] Oh! One more thing... I've been talking people here, and most of the ones I've met are from systems-- planets-- without spaceflight technology. Some even without flight technology. I was wondering... well, I was going to ask if there was anything I should know about that, but I don't even know where to begin asking! I can't even imagine it.

PRIVATE TO SS BLAMELESS CREW:

Hello, this is Luke. [He'd like to think he's on a first name basis with his crew, right?] I just wanted to thank everyone who voted this week. The results were in my favor, but... Azula, you definitely gave me a run for it!

[After these announcements are broadcast, you can easily find Luke on the Blameless' bridge, sitting in the captain's chair, staring out the window, levitating what looks like a ballpoint pen over his open palm, and generally looking extremely bored.]

The force? [That's familiar.] That's often what the power harnessed by sorceresses is called.

So you're right about me being knowledgeable.

Must have been a lucky guess on my part.

[He brings his hands up to the screen, and holds them open. A silver ballpoint pen levitates a few inches above his palms.] It's hard for me to think of it as magic, there aren't any special words to say or signs to write in the sand. It just... is.

[percolates]

[Her green eyes widen at the sight. And then, a part of her is a little bitter--Ciri's supposed to be a source, someone gifted, and yet all she can do is not be driven mad by it. She can ride, kill monsters, teleport to different worlds, and yet magic is the one thing she fails at. It's frustrating.]

Magic doesn't always require chants or blood sacrifices, you know. If that makes you feel better.

I'm not sure I feel anything about it. I just want to know what magic is. After all, couldn't we say that for anything strange and mystical? How do you classify it? [The pen falls back into Luke's open palm.]

[percolates]

Well. We also call the force primordial Chaos. It's something very old and very dangerous. It's why mages aren't always welcomed with open arms in many cities.

[She shrugs.]

Some things simply are what they are.

The Force certainly isn't chaos, it's peaceful... [He stops and considers Ciri's words.] Things are simply what they are, of course, but that doesn't mean we can't name them to better understand them. The Force is all about how you conceptualize it, after all.

[percolates]

[Maybe some mage that's a romantic would describe magic as such. Ciri certainly would not.]

I've never met anyone that would call it peaceful.

It can be chaotic, but the price of that... isn't worth it.

Do you have any experience with magic, Ciri? I mean, besides coming from a magical... place.

[percolates]

[She visibly hesitates before answering.]

A little. I've never been any good at magic, but I do possess... powers. Abilities. Much of which have been dampened here.

[And they're just as chaotic, just as dangerous.]

[Luke, on the other hand, seems to only become more calm and sedate.] Maybe we could compare notes. I'd still like to know what magic is, even if it isn't the Force.

I'd like that. Surely you're capable of more than levitating things.

[t65]

Yes, I've trained hard, and now I can sometimes levitate two things at once. [Calmly said, but he laughs at the end.] I'd like to hear more of your world as well, if you don't mind. It doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard of before.

[percolates]

[That has her laughing again.]

We'll have to trade stories! That way it will be fair.
