[Nomi really hadn't spent a lot of time outside of the quarters she'd taken to sharing with Vima, preferring mostly to keep to herself for a time while she adjusted. Life in space was not unfamiliar, but the environment here was not the same as at home and it took her time to adjust.
Today, though, she's finally really stepping out and attempting to stop being that one person who doesn't talk to anybody. Starting with an exploration of the ship. She'll wander from area to area, basically waving at anyone who happens to be around and offering a warm, matronly smile.]
Hello there. Forgive me, I don't think we've met. I'm Nomi.
II. (The Galley)
[Nomi is no cook. Not even close to it, but thankfully for you she's not cooking for anyone else. Good thing too, since she's just poking at the food dispensing machine and blinking.]
Pumpkin-spice? What is that even supposed to mean?
III. (The Wild Card option).
[Tag however you like! If you have an idea and aren't sure, PM me or poke me on Plurk @AxiomaticGrue]
II. Calibration Chat
The latter of which Vima has not brought up yet. She's kind of waiting to see if Nomi has questions herself, but also... she's worried about potential timeline implications. Which is another good reason to have Dr. Crusher around, because apparently she knows about timeline nonsense.
In the meantime, she'll start making tea and glances over when her mom questions the flavors on offering.]
Uh... I think it's an Earth thing? I was kind of confused to see spice everywhere at first, but it's not like mined spice.
finally gets my ass in gear
Good morning! [Beaming at the both of them, she spies the pumpkin spice drink dispenser Nomi is poking at.] Oh, I didn't know some ships had that flavor!
And ofc dw doesn't give me a notification
The focus on the drink was just a distraction though, and with the assurance that it was not in fact a dangerously addictive hallucinogen Nomi pressed the button with some finality. Worth a try.]
Apparently so. I'll give it a try. Can't hurt, I suppose.
[She'll sip it. Frown. Take another sip. And then shrug.]
Different. Are you a fan, Doctor?

[No, it doesn't taste nice, and it's not for connoisseurs, but it's one of those things she grew up with.
Since Dr. Crusher mentions it, though, Vima fills a cup for her--and oen for herself, why not.]
So. We all wanted to talk about the calibration rooms, right?
[BETTER TO JUST GET RIGHT INTO IT....]
no subject
We did, yes.
[Particularly for Beverly, since Vima seems quite alright. The rubberband nature of youth and all.]

It's a flavor... pumpkin, nutmeg, things like that.

[That word has a vastly different definition at home...]
no subject
[What do you mean, none of this stuff is bad!! She's just confused, now, but is chalking it up to misunderstandings of... some kind.]
no subject
[None of those flavorings ring a bell...]
no subject
That's not what these are. Spice is a term for all kinds of flavorings we can use to make food taste better... none of them are addictive narcotics.
no subject
[Eyes widening, she laughs lightly, at herself more than anything.]
I was very, very confused. Thank you for clearing that up.

God I'm so sorry, I thought I answered this!

I
No, we haven't. But this is only my first day here, so I haven't met much of anyone.
Blade. It's nice to meet you.
[He extends a hand to shake.]

You're doing better than I. I've been here two weeks and only really spoken to my daughter.
no subject
Your daughter?
Even so, I doubt anyone would blame you for that. It's a distracting sort of place.
no subject
[There's a mother's pride in those words.]
She's been here a bit longer than I have.

[Stefan hadn't been here long - honestly, he's here to visit Vima, but even he can't ignore the physical differences between his pseudo sister and the woman near him.]
Can't say I recommend it, unless you like that kind of thing.
no subject
[Which is easier than worrying about the implications of spice in food, since that was an addictive hallucinogen.]
I'm not entirely sure what those flavors are, but it can't be awful.
[So, getting some and adding it to her drink.]
Thank you, sir.
no subject
I'm Stefan, by the way. I'm the Paisley's lab support, but I'm visiting a friend here.
no subject
[Her head dips in greeting. This boy's name is familiar, Vima had definitely mentioned him...]
Who are you visiting?
no subject
You must be her mom. [He holds his hand out for a handshake.] It's good to finally meet you, Ms. Nomi.
no subject
And you as well, Stefan. I am Vima's mother, and she's certainly mentioned you.
