[She takes another experimental slash, splinting wood and sending bits of bark flying when she spots the dark figure. There's no immediate recognition because of the mask. She's not even sure if it's someone from the fleet or local though she'd guess the former.

She pauses, but doesn't retract the claw just yet as she eyes him. Prepared, but not looking to start anything. Only the bottom half of her face is covered by the mask. She decides to talk first.]

You know how it is, walk into the woods and a dead tree picks a fight with you. I challenged it to a game of paintball instead, but it insisted.

[There sounds like something like a snort that comes from under the mask. When he speaks, it's in that typical slightly distorting way a gas mask does]

I can see why. Trees hardly have hands to fire paintball guns.

[The response doesn't really scream immediate threat to her. She retracts the claws with a pop, but the last one sticks until she gives the device a hard shake. Smooth. But it's also a prototype made of scraps by a younger, less experienced Erik with artificial limitations put upon his powers here.]

Out for a breath of heavily filtered air? [The person does feel familiar even if she hasn't placed him yet. Maybe if he were a few steps closer or she heard a few more words.]

[Very smooth. He eyes her claws curiously- they were sort of like his claws, but clearly not as sharp or part of her. Interesting.]

Ah- yeah. I wanted to stretch my legs some and see a bit of the moon. And you're training, I take it?

Yeah, kind of. [Her training routine doesn't normally include attacking defenseless trees.] I'm testing out the new claw prototype a friend made for me. Arms feel kind of naked without them and the Atroma are rude.

Not bad. Sticking a little. Not as strong as the alloy I'm used to, but I'm lucky to have them. [Erik easily good have said know. He didn't even know a version of her in his world. And even if he had there's no telling if they would have been on the same side.]

[That did very effectively evaporate the ominous. She smiles, not that he can see it unless he has X-ray vision these days.] Allen, hey. [She's glad to see him again and she moves closer.]

Yeah, the claws are more like Logan's if you've met him. Not so much like yours.

[She looks softly amused, but most of that is hidden by the mask.] Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm teasing. I'm sure my hair has been through worse anyway. I've walked through fire. [Okay, she was phased and her hair felt nothing, but still.]

Full disclosure, he and I were together for awhile. Obviously it was a big mistake that ended badly, and I regret everything and should have known better. [She did know better, but she was hurting and she had her reasons at the time and it's just something she has to live with now.]

[Yeah, no, that's fair. She listens to him sputter things out for a moment before lifting her gaze back to him.] He was one of the first people I met in the prison. Similar power. Fellow smoker. Someone who seemed like he'd seen some things. Granted, it was because he'd done them... [She sighs.] There weren't any other noah or exorcists there at first and he just kind of lounged around. Eventually you—Allen—and others arrived and I knew what he was and some of what he'd done, but there was already some kind of bond there and I didn't have many of those.

And then, our generous wardens decided to show me footage of being killed back home...by my husband. The person I trusted most. I didn't take it well. And I...wanted someone I wouldn't let myself trust and things happened and once things happened it didn't seem as wrong the second time. [Or the third or thirtieth.]
