[Sam is actually very tuned in to the sensation of being watched. He was woefully... terrible at welcoming the newer people, but then, he's had a hell of a month. You know, nothing major. Just Lucifer and possession and maybe being dead and a potential second Apocalypse -- among other concerns. Like his friend being in danger. His brother, too. At any rate, when he's making some tea and getting ready to settle down at the table in the kitchen, he notices her.

Because that's part of what his job entailed. Noticing people like her.

He smiles a bit, raising his eyebrows at the... empty hall.]

... Laura, right?

[/sips tea]

[Laura hesitated, already moving into another room, her instincts to not be spotted harder to ignore than she would have liked. But he had clearly noticed her, and knew who she was. Hrm. So after a moment she stepped back into view and nodded once.]

[Sam gives her a friendly little smile before nodding toward the area around him.]

Good to see my instincts aren't totally dead in the water.

[Because wow, it'd be embarrassing. But he sits down, blowing on his tea. He's American, and more comfortable in his little spit of Kansas homeland, so he's used to tea being iced mostly — but he indulges well enough sometimes in brewed, hot cups of it from time to time. Especially since arriving in other universes. Go figure.]

Just checking out the network before I do some snooping around this moon.

You can come in, if you want. I'm guessing you're still kind of wary about -- all this.

[He motions to the ship, wincing. Because yeah, he gets it.]

[After a moment she steps further into the kitchen, though she remains near the doorway...some habits were hard to break.]

I am adjusting.

[It was a lie, but an old one. A way to make the people around her think she was like them, was getting used to living like...a person. She wanted to believe it was true, even if she knew it wasn't.]

[IE: She hasn't found anyone she thinks is a threat yet.]

I've never been described as being fine, but I think that's a fair assessment.

New to space?

[He's trying to get to know her, really. Better to get use to living together and being teammates, and whatnot; he gives her his attention more fully, leaving aside his tea and comm device.]

[If he wasn't a threat, he was fine. She looked around the room again.]

No. Members of the...team I belonged to have been to space. This is not how they described it.

When the X-men usually go to space it is because of a war. This is...television.

[She sounded just a tiny bit disgusted.]

[He glances up in a wide circle, as if trying to find a camera.

He knows it's fruitless, that idea.]

Could be more to it, though. Something more sinister.

Yes. [She frowns.]

If there is something else going on, no one I have listened to knows what it is.

[He shrugs casually despite the topic.]

I don't think it's from lack of trying in the past.

One person I spoke to had their memory wiped of what they'd learned.

Progress is... staggering along, to be sure.

...What do you know, then?

[If progress was moving, then surely they knew something...]

Not a whole lot. I know people have interacted with the Atroma, or at least their representatives, before. Someone told me -- the one who had her memory wiped, anyway -- that there was something unnatural about the make-up of the Marsiva. That there was something... alive about it, maybe.

I attempted to investigate it while I was there, but could not find a means off the...hospitality deck.

Yeah, my brother couldn't get any further, either. Neither did I before him.

Even those with exception powers haven't been able to crack it... They're either using strong magic, or... more likely, their technology is way beyond what we understand right now, even with our augments.
