I feel like this is too many layers. I have a hard enough time with some of the modern art on Earth... Moon alien modern art might be too far removed, you know?

[ kate's mask is also lowered -- settled around her neck like some kind of fluorescent bandanna. she's stood in front of a large piece made almost entirely of...circles? circles within circles. but the material is something so hauntingly otherworldly. not quite paint, but more like starlight.

she shifts her posture and glances at the blonde. ] Tell me about it. But -- it's good to know that some things are universal. Like pretentious art. [ ... ] Aaand museum donation drives.

[ with a girlish smile, she tips her head towards a 'donate!' bin not far from the museum's entrance. ]

But at least there's a museum at all. That really shows that there's at least some appreciation for this art by someone. What do you think this is painted with?

Space-paint. Maybe space-gouache or space-acrylic. [ her smile stays hapless. ever since she'd arrived, her defense mechanism has been to wave a lot of things off as space-whatevers. ]

I expected more landscapes. You know, hopeful nostalgic greenery. But I guess that's just a little too tragic for the locals.

I am. On the Tourist, which is what I like to call the most aptly named ship in the fleet. I also think it imparts certain qualities, considering how much like a sore thumb I stick out around here.

I hope you're right about that -- [ she grins. kate's fingers are calloused, but otherwise there's nothing off-putting about her grip. ] Because I'm on the Blameless. And that's a quality I'd love to have.

A couple months. Actually, just about as long as the Blameless has been in commission. It showed up shiny and new right around the time I did. I guess things were pretty over-crowded before that point?

Yeah, I had to sleep in my office for a few days before some room cleared up on my ship, but it wasn't so bad. I've definitely slept in worse places.

[ for a hot second, kate wonders whether there isn't a double-entendre to be found at the heart of that statement. worse places, huh? but she lets it (like so much else) slide. after all, she's only just met kara. no need to be pushy. ]

Hey. At least an office still has privacy, right? We've got only the most basic amenities on board. Our quarters are just one big shared bunk-room.

We just...are, I suppose. Some people sleep on different schedules and that helps. And we're saving up for separate rooms -- honestly, you know like those swear jars? I've started one in the ship kitchen. All proceeds go to sweet sweet privacy.

A ship-wide swear jar? That's an amazing idea, though I don't think it'd fly on my ship. I added decorative tea towels and I thought Fenris was going to never use the kitchen again.

Yeah. One of our guys isn't so keen on it, either -- I'm honestly not sure I'd get away with it in his eyes if I wasn't someone...from home.
