[When Wanda makes her presence known, Erik stills before turning to glance at her. The masks always make recognition take half a second longer than it should. Even so, he remembers the young woman who'd spoken to him on his first day. He nods by way of greeting before regarding the crowd again, cheering as the "combatants" threw shadow punches at each other.]

It is, and yet it isn't. If this descended into real blows, they'd be at pains to pull them apart.

[Rather hypocritical, given the name they'd foisted on these activities.]

I've seen a few of them here, at least. If anyone gets too... involved, they break them apart.

Seems rather redundant. Though, if that is truly the only way they can keep themselves entertained...

Their definition of "War Games" seem fairly wide. It includes chess, after all.

Yet, I do not see such crowds gathered around a chess table.

[He does smirk a bit at that, having seen just such a thing a couple of days ago.]

Not these ones, maybe. But I've seen it happen. If the player is particularly good.

It's a bit of a disappointment as a place to visit, though. [To him, at least.]

[Her tone is clearly teasing, as she would not exactly identify herself as a fan of them either.]

I'm very fond of chess... on my own terms, not those of the locals. [He shakes his head finally, lightening up slightly.] No, I'm not a fan. The potential for something worse is too close at hand, with this sort of thing.

What if you have an especially sore loser for an opponent?

If I did, I would probably notice five moves in advance. [A bit of a smile at that.] Chess is hard to suddenly snap about.

I have never played, myself, so I will have to take your word for it.

[grandstanding]

Ah, I see. It's not the kind of game you can play well at when you're angry. It's about strategy, and planning your moves well before you make them. Watching your opponent, as well, to see where they are trying to go.

I suppose mind reading would be considered cheating then.

[She says it off-hand, intending for it to be a joke. However, she realizes she may have revealed a side of herself that she's kept more or less suppressed for a large part of her time since arriving in the fleet.]

[The comment catches him off-guard, as he doesn't often think of other people having that kind of ability. It only brings Charles to mind, Emma Frost being long dead now. Leto, too, is a more recent association, one that stiffens his spine a little. His forehead creases a bit as he regards Wanda more closely... and his thoughts turn rather deliberately to the noise of the crowd, the pinched feeling of the mask on his face, the amateur fighting of the pair in the street.]

I would say it's against the spirit of the game. [And then, a bit more pointed.] Having played chess with a telepath, I am used to him honouring that.

Yes, because I am one. Not with that particular ability, but I've known a couple in my time.

[He's wary still. Mind-reading, as familiar as he's become with it in one personal relationship, still sets him on his guard when it comes to others. His mind isn't somewhere anyone should venture.]

They don't always play nice.

[She's still kind of teasing, but, to be fair, he could honestly mean either and he wouldn't be wrong.]

Both. But we're on the subject of the former, aren't we.
