[ That gets her eyebrows up a little, and she looks at him more closely. First of all, having him treat her like a person instead of a zoo exhibit is a bit of a relief, and possibly says something about the world he came from - at least, it suggests that he's used to the sight of nonhumans.

And he's a pilot? Interesting. ]

Will we? Did they finally send me someone qualified for the job? [ Her tone is curious, rather than suspicious. ] Do you mind if I ask you about your experience? A lot of people around here with pilot augments have never flown in space before.

[He grins.] Oh, then let me take it from the top. Commander Poe Dameron, Republic Starfleet, currently leader of Black X-wing Squadron for the Resistance. I'm the best pilot they have, and there's nothing I can't fly.

[ The words are very familiar, though they don't correspond exactly to what Hera knows. Her first thought is that he's from her world, but a different time. Probably earlier, what with his use of the word Republic, but it's enough to pique her interest - and offer a little information of her own. ]

Well, I was born two years before the Battle of Endor, if that helps. And I'm 32 years old now.

I haven't heard of any battle on Endor, so... future, I guess. I'm from about twenty years after the end of the Clone Wars.

Okay. [Give him a minute to do some mental math.] So that puts me about... thirty-five years in your future, I think.

Hm. You're much farther in the future than anyone else I've met. Interesting. [ She tilts her head a little. ]

Are you a Jedi, too?

A friend of mine is around here, Finn. Same year as me.

What? No. When I'm from, there's only one Jedi even left, and he's who knows where. I'm just a pilot, nothing special about that. [Grin.] Though I'm a really good pilot.

Only one? Huh. I suppose I imagined after the Empire falls, the Jedi Order would come back.

I think... they tried? And then something happened, something bad. Kylo Ren, the guy kind of in charge of the First Order, killed them all. He's a... whatever the dark version of the jedi are. Sith lord?

A Sith? Really? I didn't think those existed anymore at all.

[ Jedi, she knows. Well, sort-of Jedi. She supposes Kanan and Ahsoka aren't Jedi anymore, but - ]

...The Inquisitors? Hm.

He started out good and got turned by the supreme leader of the First Order. I think that's what the General said. She doesn't like talking about it too much.

I'd just heard that the Sith were eradicated. Apparently not. [ Hopefully, if or when she gets back to her own time, she'll be able to tell this to Kanan. He should know. ]

Yeah, I heard the same thing. But... he's definitely the real thing.

I appreciate that, though I have the general outline of events. Mostly, I was just hoping the victory would last longer.

But I know it can be tough, delivering bad news to people.

I think people assumed the Empire would just... go away, once the Emperor was gone. Drove them back to the rim but didn't keep pursuing.

I just wish it had gone differently.

Well... the way I figure it, as long as there are people still willing to do the right thing, they can't ever truly win.

That's why I joined the New Republic Starfleet. And then the Resistance. It's... people are starting to give up hope they found after the battle at Endor.

General Organa would agree with you. So do I. [But he also can't be angry at people for getting worn down. He hasn't tried to drag his dad out of retirement or anything.]
