Who: Everyone! All of you!
Broadcast: Maybe!
Action: Definitely!
When: Anytime during the toxic moon event!

[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?
this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.
here's the main event info post for reference! have fun!]

[ He thought Obi-Wan would understand that, perhaps, given what he had come to know of the man. He looked down at his feet and his eyes turned sad seeing the weakened, polluted grass and dirty. Everything here seemed like it was struggling to breathe. ]
no subject
It's been a long time since then. ]
The people here need to know how to help themselves before they can accept an outsider's help.
no subject
They're in trouble. We can't just leave them to struggle along on their own. If we find a solution, we should offer it to them. We can't make them use it, I know, but it wouldn't be right for us to know how to fix something and withhold that solution.
no subject
Even if we had the solution, it's not as simple as handing it over.
no subject
How so?
[ There's an edge there, brows knitted together. ]

Perhaps Obi-Wan overestimated him. Or perhaps, he admitted, the Captain doesn't have the Jedi's long history in diplomacy and politics. ]
We would have to make sure it isn't abused, something that could easily happen once we leave the planet. Finding the right authorities might be tricky. It depends on how much information we can access and how much of it is true.
Surely you've dealt in similar situations?
no subject
Those are just excuses, Obi-Wan. Bullshit excuses. If we have the ability to help them, we need to exercise it - because it's the right thing to do.
[ He motioned around them. ]
If we found a solution, you would be fine walking away, keeping the information to yourself, leaving the people and the environment here to suffer because - what? You don't have faith in the people? Or they aren't under an 'authority' you trust?
[ Those blue eyes are sharp and hard as he glared at him and turned his back, marching further into the wood. ]
no subject
That's not what I said. What I meant was if we do find a solution, we have to make sure it benefits everyone. We have to be smart about it. This world didn't suddenly find themselves in a bad situation. I imagine the corporations had something to do with it. There's more at play here.

Whether they use it, what comes of it - that is for them to decide, for them to carve their own path, destiny, whatever you want to call it. But I know that not helping them will help no one, and we don't have the luxury of knowing how long we'll be here, much less if we'd ever come across someone related to them. So I'm going to use what time I have the best I can, and if not have a solution, then at least give help them along with the start of one.
[ He paused in his walking, looking down at the base of a tree and squatting, pulling out a bag to put the sample in.
Obi-Wan could argue all he wanted, say all he wanted, it wouldn't change Kirk's mind. He knew what happened when help came to late. He wasn't foolish enough to think it would go perfectly and smoothly - nothing ever did. But he knew he wouldn't feel right if he did not try, and he couldn't sit back and do nothing.
His gut told him it was right to try and so he would. ]

Satine never got a burial. There had been no time for it.
Passion tires him out these days. He's seen so much of it and watched it all burn out. It didn't matter who was right or wrong and Obi-Wan has stopped seeing it in those terms. But briefly, he wishes Yoda was here. Or Mace. Obi-Wan wasn't qualified to teach or explain much.
He glances upwards at the trees. With the Force, he snags a dying leaf from a branch. It was black and had little white boils on the stem. He keeps it afloat, studying it but careful not to touch. ]

Doing the right thing would never be wrong to him. Would it always be easy? No. Doing the right thing was often the more difficult, and he knew, deep down, that what he saw as right might, in some cultures, not be so, and he would need to respect that despite his own feelings. But it seemed to him that the people here shared similar belief values and culture, and to him it was worth it to try. Could things go horribly wrong? Yes, of course they could, and he would bear that responsibility if things soured. But he would also bear the responsibility if he did nothing, and the people fell to a problem that might have been fixed.
It wasn't a black and white sort of thing. He knew that. And when it came to things like that he just had to do what he felt was right, what his gut told him was right. And this - helping, it felt right, and that was all he had to trust right now. It made him ache for Spock or Bones, to hear how those two saw things though he knew they would follow his decisions. Still, it would have been nice to hear their counsel. But he didn't have them, so he would have to do the best he could on his own.
He paused when he heard the branch crack off, turning to look back to Obi-Wan. He walked over, leaning in slightly to peer at the branch and the curious boils. ]
Symptom or adaptation, do you think?

[ Even with wearing breathers, Obi-Wan is loathe to try it without a control environment. Something about it felt . . . off though. Was it the pollution? Or was something else happening, beneath the soil?
Obi-Wan briefly wished that he was more connected to the Living Force than the Unifying Force. Bad feelings don't come in handy when observing plant life. ]
Something is happening here. To this planet.

[ A controlled environment. They had no idea what would come out of it, after all, and Kirk had no wish to see either himself or Obi-Wan contract some disease. He took out one of his bags and held it up and open. ]
Can you maneuver it in here?
[ The bag could be sealed, and he would double bag it after that, just in case. He eyed those boils again, something about them making him shiver. ]
Yeah, no kidding. I wouldn't call this natural by any stretch.
no subject
Exhale. Now is not the time for doubts. Trust in the Force.
With a swift move, he drops it, leaning against the trunk. Sweat trickled down his face into his beard. He quickly wiped it away. ]
No. I mean, something else is happening. Beneath the surface.
no subject
[ If Kirk saw the tremble, he did not mention it, merely sealed the bag and then slipped it into another before putting it into his pack with the utmost care. After, and despite their previous disagreement, he stepped forward and touching Obi-Wan's elbow. ]
Should we go back? You're not looking so good.
[ He would press on the other part once he was assured of the course of action Obi-Wan needed. The earth would keep a moment longer. ]

[ He waves off his concern, straightening. Obi-Wan loathes showing any form of weakness. His posture is rigid and he seems more like a general than a monk. He inhales, cursing the respirator silently. ]
Just a little winded, that's all.
no subject
[ Kirk watches him carefully, but he nodded. Obi-Wan knew his own limits better than he did, but he made a mental note to keep an eye on it. He was no stranger to pushing limits - he did it plenty on his own and gave Bones regular fits because of it. ]
Let me know when you feel we need to go back. We're just exploring, this isn't a mission.
no subject
[ "Oh this is just an exploration of the world" goes badly is just as common in Star Wars. ]
no subject
[ Don't invite the bad exploration juju Obi-Wan. ]
Trust me, I would not be surprised. At all. I would show you the reports to prove it, but those are off in some other quadrant with my superiors.
