[ They're a juxtaposition. Leto is a desert creature. He is heat and sand, the whirlwind. He destroys everything in his path, to make way for the new. He holds no expectations, he has no rules. Loki was nothing like that, ice and poison. He holds power in his voice, a power that turns inward.

He did not expect them to collide in such a way. ]

[The benefit of being fundamentally chaotic is the ability to surprise even people like Leto. Hel, Loki manages to surprise himself at times, though he does his best not to show it.

Of course, this has become something as inevitable as gravity in its own way. He moves his head to place a feather-light kiss on Leto's temple.]

[ He huffs, a small laugh. ]

Are you trying to bless me?

[He chuckles, very softly.]

And if I were?

Or would you rather I kiss you elsewhere?

Best not tempt fate.

[ But he leans to kiss Loki lightly on the lips, the gift of thanks. ]

[Loki slides his hand forward to cradle Leto's cheek and kisses him a a bit more firmly in return, though goes no further than that.]

Some day I shall tempt fate from its burrow, so that I might kill and eat it.

[ He pulls away gently. ]

I shall be waiting for that day.

[Loki lets him go. Probably a miscalculation on his part, to have gone even that far, but he's also not going to second guess himself too heavily where Leto is involved. The element of chaos is all he has.

But he does indulge himself in letting his hand linger just a bit longer on Leto's cheek.]

I am here to do the filthiest of all work.

What is filthy can be beautiful.

[ Like sharing a little joke. He cocks his head at Loki. ]

To those with eyes to see it.

[But he does smile for that, because it is funny.]

It is enough for those who can.

[Foolish, but he can't help but trace the line of Leto's cheek with light fingers at that.]

[ He leans into the touch. ]

Part of it. What I see is endless.

[Loki treasures that little movement. It's still a rare thing for him.]

The infinite comes in different sizes. [Did Leto see this? He thinks not all of it. He's still managed to surprise or annoy him a bit at times. He reads him keenly.]

It varies. Sometimes the path is narrow or it is wide. Ultimately, we all go through the crucible.

It's a mathematical truth, like all the best sorts of truth. [The only ones he really likes, when he comes to it. Though there's still an art to breaking those truths in a useful way.]

[ He chuckles. ]

Never have I heard a term such as "best" for a truth.

If you think there is only one grade of truth, that might be much of your troubles there.

Grade sounds far too much of schools and rules and things I never had much patience for.

However you like to call your hierarchies of truth.

Rules were made to be broken. But schools have their uses... at times.

[ He watches Loki. He seems to do that a lot. So like the one he knew, and so unlike. He vaguely knew of the darker one, who destroyed the only hope Loki ever had. And still, Loki had won. Or lost.

Leto dismisses him. Old proverbs will hardly help him here. And for all his father's wisdom, it is obsolete to Leto. He's heard them all. Seen it all. FDR had asked him how Leto has not succumbed to his grief, as if Leto does not see people dying in time. All time. All paths. ]
