this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

when the metal arm pulls back behind the wall, kate huffs quietly under her breath and jerks her paint gun's barrel up -- abandoning the shot she'd been lining up with painstaking care. she drops the piece and lets it hang from a sling across her chest before shimmying up an old gnarled half-dead tree so she can shimmy across a crumbling bit of once-upon-a-building.
is bucky barnes here? nah, jump-to-conclusions kate! that's just weird wishful thinking. she crawls along the abandoned stone and tries to get closer to the wall where she last saw the flash. ]

He's done well to avoid all the other participants, but what form of soldier would he be if he allowed himself to be fired at? Once he's down the wall, he climbs into a trench, sticking to the shadows until it ends. Anyone who happens to be in the way? Well, cannon fodder. Winter scans the area and deems it empty before slinking out of the trench and taking cover behind a partially-collapsed wall.
His finger rests against the trigger, ready to fire. Waiting for his target to come into position. ]

(and some knotted over-confident part of her wants to impress him.)
kate eases her gun forward and watches the shadows. he's somewhere in there, but she can't be certain of any exact location. oh, what she wouldn't give right now for her bow and quiver. a concussive arrow would be great, right now. or a flash-bang tip. as much as she rags on clint for his trick arrows, they did have some uses.
aw, hell. kate scatters a pair of purposefully poorly aimed shots -- marking the far wall with two purple splotches. she doubts he'll be spooked (if it's really him) but it at least would make her a target, and so long as she rolls away quick enough she might catch a glimpse of him when he raises his gun.
or she might get shot for her trouble. somehow, the risk seems worth it. ]

No. He would have heard the footsteps. There don't seem to be any other players this far out.
Fair enough, he's quick, so this little game may not go in their favor. Winter jumps up, standing on the top of the wall and doing a quick sweep of the area, gun poised to shoot first and ask questions later. ]

Barnes? [ she calls out. and her hands go up fast, but perhaps not fast enough. ]
no subject
It takes a fraction of a second to register her calling his name. It's a little unsettling, being the only Barnes around, now. He reaches up, tugging off his goggles as he stalks closer to her.
He's talked with her once or twice, but if they've met before this, he doesn't remember her. Does that mean she's a friend of Jim's, or something else? ]
You know who I am. Talk.
no subject
what she feels more keenly is a funny sort of butterfly wing in her stomach. kate bishop is a well-composed young woman, but there's always been something about him -- at least, the him she'd run into, on occasion, back home. she approaches despite having been tagged twice, and can see now that he's not exactly the same person -- at least, as far as she can tell once the goggles are off. but she'd know that arm anywhere. she'd known it when she and eli had first run into him around christmas, years ago. ]
Your arm. It's memorable. [ her hands are still up. ]
no subject
Memorable. That's certainly a word for it. ]
So we've met before.
no subject
[ -- and aside from the arm, he isn't exactly like the barnes she's met (on occasion). ]
no subject
I don't know you. Am I meant to remember you?
no subject
Nah. It's the way of this situation, isn't it? Familiar names but unfamiliar people. I'm -- [ no, let's skip the real name. even the correct barnes wouldn't have recognized that one. ] I'm Hawkeye.
no subject
Does that make you an Avenger?
no subject
so she talks herself into telling the truth: ] No, I'm a Young Avenger. Think of it as the younger, hipper, much cooler team.
no subject
[ Not that it really matters, but things sound a lot more put together where Kate comes from. ]

[ Really, he can only assume, since he was never really knowledgeable about anything that didn't pertain to his missions. ]

Part of him wants to snap at her, because that's not who he is. He can't live up to that. The other, though... No. He's not going to go there. Winter remains silent, his eyes narrowed.
Instead of staying and trying to talk, he squares his shoulders and turns on a heel, intent on just walking away. ]
no subject
[ but he's intent. and kate remembers the very good reason he had to be tight-lipped, last time at christmas. she swallows hard.
and she lets him go. ]
