[Erik nods, then sets the pamphlet aside, twisting back up to sit in the chair properly. He realigns his mindset to the task at hand and lets his thoughts fall open.]

I'll assume you've both had time to read Nightingale's summary. And that you heard the broadcast the other day from the Atroma.

[axiomed]

I did. Though I don't know how much of it is true or manufactured to garner a reaction.

[ Could be either. Or both. ]

Hank and I were discussing the augments before. Can you sense them?

[grandstanding]

Even so, parts of that broadcast bother me. The mention of considering some of us allies for following their instructions in delivering cargo to the Maldua first of all.

[At the question, Erik huffs.] No. They're either not metal, or I'm blocked from it much the same as I'm blocked from the outside of the ships. My power's been lowered here as well, I'm certain. It's about the same as I was allowed in Kyriakos. [Only there, it was almost a non-issue, given the lack of metal structures around. Being blocked on the fleet is far more noticeable to him.]

[axiomed]

[ He shrugs. He doesn't know about that really. ]

The ships certainly block my range.

[grandstanding]

...On the subject of the augments. Kitty was involved in a serious attempt to remove them, using powers. Kitty's power is phasing through solid objects, so she tried that. It didn't work, so they moved to trying to cut it out. Like I told you, Charles-- [He casts a look at Hank at this thought, bringing him up to speed.] --making attempts to remove the augment makes you afraid. Just saying it doesn't sound like much, but until you've tried it you have no idea.

The attempt to cut it out of someone's head ended with the cutter fainting from panic, and the tester going into a rage and stabbing someone.

[axiomed]

[ He barely suppresses his shudder. ]

Right. Well, perhaps it shouldn't be removed but . . . manipulated. If it is software, maybe we just need to change its programming somehow.

[grandstanding]

It doesn't change the fact it's still lodged in our heads.

[That's the rub. It's physically in there, and the very idea of it itches at him. And that's while he's practicing restraint. If he thinks on it too hard, well. The urge to claw it out might appear.]

[axiomed]

No, it doesn't.

[ He understands the feeling. ]

But maybe we'll have more luck changing it to suit us before removing it.

[grandstanding]

Maybe.

[He doesn't have much to add to the programming idea. It's not his area, and he assumes Hank will have more to contribute there.]

We'll look into it.

[grandstanding]

[Rubbing at his chin briefly, he nods. That's that. Erik flicks a look at Charles, waiting to see if there's anything else he wants to discuss under the supposed privacy of telepathy. There is precious little he knows himself, that isn't already out in the open.]

[axiomed]

[ He shakes his head. Charles is still too new to have a lot to share, and separated by ships means there's little he can glean with his telepathy. ]

I hear there's some kind of event coming up on the moon.

[grandstanding]

Hard not to, the way the locals are behaving about it. [The excited chattering about the upcoming party is, at least, a welcome change from talking about their precious war games. Erik laces his fingers together in his lap.]

It's a part of some sort. With costumes.

[axiomed]

Like a masquerade ball. It might be worthwhile for the food.

[ There's little else Charles could do there. ]

[grandstanding]

[He shrugs, unconcerned. The food definitely has his interest, moreso than dancing and socialising. He can do the latter on his own time, and the former isn't that compelling. He knows Charles's thoughts on it, without having to ask. A faint smile plays around his lips.]

I'll go if you do. I have enough credits to waste some on nice clothes.

[axiomed]

[ Charles bats his eyes at Erik. ]

With an invitation like that, how could I refuse?

[grandstanding]

[Hank better watch himself, this hotel room is about to get too small for the three of them. Erik tips his head back slightly, watching Charles with some measure of intensity.]

You wouldn't.

[axiomed]

[ Hank will catch on. Probably. He lets his fingers travel over Erik's arm. ]

I couldn't.

So, what kind of nice clothes?

[grandstanding]

A suit, probably. It's been a while. [Many years, in fact.]

[axiomed]

Very descriptive, dear.

I wonder if they have anything in tweed.

[grandstanding]

[Erik raises an eyebrow.] Tweed. [You can take the professor out of the university...]

As long as you don't pick a tweed mask to match.

[axiomed]

[ He chuckles at Erik's expression. ]

I would never wear tweed at an event anyway.

[grandstanding]

Well, that's a relief. [But his expression makes it clear that he wasn't concerned to begin with.] It won't be hard to find someone who'll tailor clothing, given the way the locals have been behaving.

Then we'll get outfitted some time soon.
