[His smirk grins, and he chuckles a little, whispering back. ]

Probably. You'd have to admire his moxy on that front.

[He smiles sharply, fishing absently in his coat pocket for his credit chips]

I might even let him get away with it. I'm suddenly feeling rather generous.

[There's almost something hauntingly familiar about this situation, and the smile falls just a bit as the source of the déjà vu starts to clarify in his memory.

The shopkeeper returns shortly thereafter, and Felix hands over the chips without seeming to really notice it was, as predicted, just a bit higher than advertised.]

[Crowley notices, and more to the point he notices the fade in Felix's smile. He gives the shopkeeper a lazy wave as he moves on with his duties, before turning to Felix, head canted slightly. ]

The sudden price raise shock you that much?

[His own way of checking that he's okay. He doesn't LOOK okay. ]

No, it's -- [He makes an empty gesture with the hand not clutching the shopping bag. Usually, this is where he'd say 'nothing', but that isn't true. Even more, he knows that Crowley will know. Secrets are for other people.] --have you ever had a moment that you felt like you've been in it before? I don't mean déjà vu, exactly, but...more akin to an echo?

[This is one thing Crowley can relate to and he's glad for it. Offer some sort of support here, even if it's not quite the same thing. ]

I think it's just something that happens. Little things happen, they twinge in your memory and suddenly you feel like you've been here before, done this thing before. Except it's more...knowing you've done it than thinking it.

[It seems that as long as Crowley has been around that he would have quite a wealth of memories, and therefore quite a number of ways he could have inadvertently walked in his own footsteps. It's comforting in a small way. Enough that he can elaborate]

Precisely. And this is...almost like I've gone in a circle. This could almost be years ago, before everything changed. I could just as easily be back home with Shannon...my previous lover [It's a quiet aside, not mentioned with quite the same note of grief he might have mentioned Gideon and therefore often attempted not to]. And we could just as easily be terrorizing some shopgirl on the Road of Carnelian. It was one of our favorite hobbies, you know. [The note of fondness is gone almost as soon as it appears]

Eh. Just that it's a masquerade. Something to do with smog?? I don't know, seems a bit of a weird reason to throw a party but there you go.

I imagine if that were the reason, they wouldn't find them unnecessary. They don't seem particularly bloodthirsty, but sometimes it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
