I have to admit, I might be a little bit biased.

[ Squeezing his hand again, Hermione lets her thumb brush over his knuckle. She's been here before of course, but never so suddenly - usually the heart-to-hearts came after tea and biscuits, with a bit of nudging. Still, she relaxes her grip, giving Charles room to pull away if he wants. ]

But I like being biased.

I would have to find a way, somehow. Perhaps I need to retire from teaching. How can I possibly outdo myself?

Well, pilot. Not the ones here, I don't think but the ones he knows at home. I was going to teach him about potions and perhaps flying a broom in return.

[ Ah, right. It has been so long that Charles had forgotten about it. ]

Would potions still hold their magical properties so far in space?

My magic seems to work fine, so I don't see why potions won't work. I hope so, because I want to help a friend.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you don't mind me asking.

It's a potion, to help with werewolf transformations. In my world there's something called the Wolfsbane potion that helps the wolf be calm during the transformations, to not be dangerous. That's what I want to do.

[ A werewolf. He's never come across one of those before. ]

Is there nothing I can do?

[ Certainly some kind of mental block could function in lieu of a potion? ]

It's an option. I don't think he's hiding it or ashamed of it anymore, but if the potion doesn't work...

[ She pauses, humming. ]

I could keep him entertained as a lioness, with some of his friends, but there's no guarantee it would work. It might be an idea?

You can change shape as well?

[ Interesting. He runs his fingers over his Fawn mark, almost indistinguishable against his palm. ]

Well, it is a possibility.

I can. It was a gift given to me by the Queen of the world I was in before now. I'm a lioness, with wings.

[ And, she supplies to herself, it's the only power she was able to bring with her. ]

It's what worked for him at home. We can hope, but... It's space.

[ He hesitates. ]

I won mine during a game. A rather barbaric one. We had to express the worthiness of our team or we would be killed. I gave the most impassioned speech I could and managed to save them.

[ But other teams died and he couldn't save them at all. ]

That sounds awful.

[ She squeezes his hand again, swallowing. ]

It's not - being like this, it's not a good gift, not always. Sometimes I can't control it, I - I lost myself. And then someone died, because I couldn't control myself. I couldn't control the lioness, and someone died.

[ And there's worse than that. She can remember the hundreds of people that died because of her failures, making her chest hurt. ]

It's not right. What they do to us, it's not right.

No. It's barbaric and we should remember that.

[ He doesn't see the point of being quiet about these things, no matter how bad a light it may paint him or others. He hasn't forgiven himself, but he has understood the necessity of his actions.

But he knows where the blame lies. ]

I never had that problem with my other form, but it is a lot tamer than a lioness.

When you're angry, when you're upset, it's difficult to control yourself.

[ Hermione swallows, her throat like cotton. She so rarely talks about this, but she knows hiding it just makes it worse, making her own self-loathing grow. ]

When there's a world out there with people that come and attack you, try to kill you, slaughter your friends in front of you... You can't control yourself. It's about protecting the people you love, and there's no limit to what I would do for those people.

[ He'll never forgive Kyriakos for what they did to his team, over and over. And how they made him watch. ]

[ She blinks back her tears and breathes out a soft noise, swallowing. ]

I've seen the worst of people, but at least... I've seen the best, too. People are amazing, in their hearts, and it's wonderful to see that, even in the darkest times.

That is what I believe. I have hope that people can overcome the worst.
