[ enter margaery tyrell of the windrose. remember? silks, beautiful curls, too generous of a cleavage for a sixteen year old? queen to be?

today, the pale pink silks are tainted, as well as the usual fair skin with a mixture of dirt, mud, leaves and at least three colors of paint. ]

I do believe I won against the locals in their odd little paint game. I find it quite brilliant if a little bit of a hazard if one is very attached to their clothes.

[ the queen to be seems much more of a brat today ]

I offer a different game of chance. some smallfolk in my realm say that one can tell someone's future and their traits according to the palm of their hands. I was told it is all false but.

A guessing game! I shall attempt to read your palm and if three of my guesses are correct, that must be worth a prize. I shall leave it to you to choose what to give me. If I lose, I shall of course be in debt of one prize to my company.

Thought we were -- meeting on the moon?

[ it is his fate to be perpetually confused around her, isn't it. ]

Yeah, I've heard of it -- I'm..friends with Kitty. [ is it less creepy to visit the teenager on her ship if he has a friend he can excuse visiting while he's doing it, or more creepy because it's not kitty that's inviting him?

Of course we are not, I changed my mind a few moments ago.

[ as easily as that. she waves a hand a little, as if to dismiss the thought. the moon will require walking out with the mask and as her pink silks are ruined, it shall be quite horrid with the rest of the gowns she has left.

she is different than most ladies but even margaery tyrell finds the idea of clashing colors a dread. ]

You know Kitty! She is a sweet friend. Well, then you must know your way about by now, yes? Do you visit her very often?

Uh, actually no, we usually [ and by usually he means always so far ] meet on the Iskaulit, or the moon, or the Tourist - which is - where I'm crashing. Never actually been on the - Windrose. Or any other ship - except for the Bishop, but that doesn't really count... [ cuz that's where he's supposed to be crashing - but that's not really relevant information to anything, is it?

he rubs the back of his head. what is he getting himself into? ] The Iskaulit is a pretty convenient meet-up spot, spacious, and normalish, and - [ public ] I thought there were three things, but I can't think of the third anymore. [ because the bar is actually a detriment for a change. ]

[ she's a queen to be, she's totally allowed ]

Never? You would do well to visit at least once. I made it a goal to visit all the ships if only to see them all. I always wondered if they differ in any way.

[ but then there is the smile again ]

Well, I do favor spacious and - normalish?

It seems that we have found our place.

[ he really should visit, kitty has been humoring his fear of the shuttles and sparing him unnecessary travels by coming to see him. but he doesn't feel right keeping that up.

All that's left is the time.

Shall you not try it yourself? There are wonderful people to be found on every ship, it is quite the sweet adventure. Most of my own friends are on top of the Blue Fish and I do hold it dearly in my heart. Though I do favor the Windrose, if only for its name.

The Windrose is definitely a better name than the Tourist.

[ but of course he'll be on the punny ship (so what if he chose to move there, it's where kara was assigned that's as good as assigning him, shh). ]

[ it would not be hard to recognize margaery upon her entrance. not many in the fleet quite dress the same as the so called rose of highgarden in her silks and her long locks and the easy grace that she carries herself. for someone who is evidently regal, her behavior might be surprising as she stops to smile at anyone she comes across, asking them about their day until she finds him ]

it is quite charming here.

[ he arrives a little early, figuring he may as well get the shuttle ride over and done with with plenty of time to recover from it before their - appointment? (that's a nice safe word, yes) - he doesn't really need any help with acting weird. so he grabs a book from the library - some light astrophysics reading - and picks a nice conspicuous seat to read it in.

he looks up from his book when he hears the sudden increase in chatter and -- he's so glad he remembered this place, meeting is public was definitely the way to go, he feels judged just for meeting her alone.

he instantly stands up when she walks up to him, feeling painfully under-dressed in his simple attire, and offers her a smile. ]

Yeah it's -- pretty nice. Good to see you! In - person, I mean. How was the -- ride?

Wonderful. I am very unused to the idea of traveling in such a manner, I fear I always look a little silly, being as enthusiastic as I am about it all but it is so beautiful, to be able to sail the skies rather than water, is it not?

[ she smiles and for the sake of doing things proper, she is still the lady of highgarden and a queen consort of seven kingdoms, she sinks into a graceful, proper curtsy ]

what are you reading? is it very interesting?

-- yeah, sure.

[ it's beautiful, but mostly it's still terrifying to him.

she curtsied. what is he supposed to do now? she curtsied. he offers an awkward bow in return, and is only too happy to turn his attention to the book. ]

Yeah, actually it's pretty fascinating, I was just reading up the part about cosmic microwave background.

[ she takes a seat, fingers turning the pages with keen interest before smiling again ]

I cannot for the life of me begin to understand it. Do you have such odd things in your world? you seem so knowledgeable.

[ well if she sits, he can sit too, right? so he does that ]

It's in every world, cosmic microwave background is basically a snapshot of light from the early universe, through it we can understand the process the universe went through to become what it is today - and what it was like when it first started. Don't worry, though, [ he smiles ] being confused about it is the norm in most worlds, I'm pretty sure. [ unless one of them is planet of the nerds. ]

How it came to be?

[ she frowns a little and reads a few sentences at the page she stopped it. it's as foreign as anything else ]

Your world is very odd. Do people not believe in the Gods? In my realm, that is what is known to us. However the world came to be is the will of the Seven.

[ but margaery doesn't accept it as a solitary truth, not after this journey anyway ]

A lot of people believe in a lot of gods.

[ he's not really comfortable with the topic and it shows; he's a man of science, and even if he weren't...his childhood was enough to teach him not to put his faith in an almighty entity's hands. ]

Some of them say that science is the work of the gods.

[ he tries to tread carefully; faith can be a powerful thing, especially in a predicament like the one they've found themselves in. but it sure isn't for him. ]

They're not mutually exclusive.

[ she is not religious herself. she prays because it is expected, especially by her recent title but she puts her faith in her family to see that her prayers are answered. power is the heart of it all, so her grandmother taught her, not whispers to a decaying marble statue

and yet, one simply must not speak that way in her station. ]

In my realm, people all believe in all manners of gods as well. I do not know much of science but I do believe this, whatever manner of faith or worship that brings people comfort is a blessed one. We have known hard times and while I do try to offer my people comfort in such times I - I understand and accept that they can also find it in their faith.

In my country there's what's called freedom of religion - it means everyone is free to believe and worship what they please, so long as they're not hurting anyone else in the process.

[ or well, it's supposed to but he could really do without getting into that. ]

What do you believe in? If - it's not too personal.

My house worships the Seven, it is what we have been all raised to worship.

[ she smiles and closes the book but keeps it tucked in her lap for a moment longer ]

At times I pray for the Gods to keep my house safe, my grandmother healthy and my brother kept from harm as he is of The Kingsguard and our realm is at war and he must fight for his king. For myself, I believe my family shall always keep me safe even if my prayers shall not be heard.

[ that's a relief; he won't have to tread too carefully. he doesn't really need another pothole to fall in. ]

You're pretty close to your family? Are -- any of them here?

[ she runs a finger alongside the spine of the book, mind wandering a moment to the girl named hermione granger who said she had met her brother in a different world.

I have many of my realm here but none from my house, no. I do think they would not care for this setting; those of Highgarden value the sunshine and open space a bit too much.

[ margaery, however, is keen on adjusting and loving every moment of this.

Very close, yes. Especially to my grandmother, she has always been the realm's strongest, most wonderful woman in my opinion.

She sounds like a great person. I'm sorry - you must miss them a lot.

[ personally, he wants to throw a party every single day his family stays away -- but he's aware and relieved that it's not like that for most people. ]

Any of those people from your world your friends?

I do, direly. I have never been away from my family for so long. I expect I should have gotten used to that, my grandmother was to return to our house's seat in Highgarden while I was to remain at the capitol -

[ she laughs a little ]

I used to think of it as awfully far. Now it looks so silly.

[ as she stands in the name of her house above the stars themselves ]

Oh, certainly. They are all wonderful.

[ it is a lie, of course. the targaryan queen might yet decide to do away with the little queen and theon greyjoy, well. no one with half a wit would trust a greyjoy and though she has sansa's favor, she is not a fool to think herself safe from the other wolves in her pack.

but that is kept close to chest, as always ]

My dearest friends Lady Sansa is here, she is a blessing.

[ he smiles sympathetically; there's no getting used to missing people and he knows it, but he appreciates what she's trying to do. sometimes, you just have to tell yourself little lies to keep going. ]

I'm glad you have a friend here, sometimes those can be just as good as family.

[ or way better, in his case. ] My best friend is here too - Kara Danvers - if you know her?

Certainly, Lady Sansa is very sweet.

[ but the concept is entirely foreign. there is little in Westeros to be stronger than blood and none that margaery trusts to have her favor in mind more than her grandmother and her brothers, namely Loras. others, even Sansa in her sweetness, are a comfort but it does not slip her mind at all times than she is a single rose in this realm which is largely dominated by wolves. She does not imagine Robb Stark to be overly fond of Mace Tyrell when the latter is known to fight for Renly first and Tywin Lannister later.

The game is more complicated here, to be certain and Margaery is left to fend for her own house on her own but if she is to be the queen of seven kingdoms, this is but a setback on the way. She is fortunate that the only lion present is lord Tyrion who favors her more than his horrid sister. she is also fortunate her sweet intended is not present. The damage Joffrey would bring to her name here is unspeakable, the boy-king, she is certain, shall never be able to accept that those of this realm shall not bow to his will.

No. in the end, it is only Margrery, on her own and only she may guard her interests.

there are friends and there are allies, certainly but none as important as family ]

I do not think we have been introduced. How sweet that you have such a friend here. Has she come with you or has she been here longer?

But she's not your grandmother.

[ he gets it, if he'd have gotten here alone...yeah, he would have found great comfort in kitty and kate, in jim, but they would never be able to replace kara. would he even be as open to them? kara's presence has been integral in reassuring him, putting him at ease. ]

I could introduce you, if you like, she's the kind of person who's always happy to make a new friend - and she's a great friend to have. [ he may not be able to openly brag about her superpowers and heroism, but he can still brag about her general awesomeness as a person, which is what attracted him to her in the first place. ] She got here about a month before me.
