[ The video flickers on to Leto sitting on his bed, kicking his legs briefly. He grins when the video starts recording, pushing himself onto his feet. He tilts his head, that odd bird-like movement he often exhibits. ]

I have heard some interesting things of late, so I thought I'd put the question to you all. When you fall in love, can you only love one person? Can you fall in love with multiple people? Is love something you find yourself stopping after just one?

[ Is this a real conversation. He's torn from being amused to incredulous. ]

Surely at eighty-two years old, you must be a little tired of surviving?

Not to me.

[ Unfortunately for her. ]

There is no end. Survival is all that there is. I must make do.

You must or you're unwilling to change?

I must. There is no other option.

Those who limit themselves to one option might not be able to see others exist.

There are no other options. [ Her voice lowers, hard. ] I cannot die.

But that is not a good thing.

I did not say it was so. It is simply the truth.

[ He hums, a soft sound of understanding. ]

Then do not make it your own truth.

[ She breathes out air, voice tight. ]

I walk my path and worship my Lord. I live because there is no final journey for me to take.

Is that what you want the sum of you to be? A creature that survives because it can?

Then why have a name? Why argue? In you exists a fighting will.

What would you have me do? Trapped upon this vessel, with no choice but to walk the hallways of dead things and broken hopes.

[ Her nails dig into her palms through her gloves. ]

I survive because I cannot die. What purpose would I find?

Perhaps the meaning to who Lauralae is the key.

[ There's quiet, for a long moment, before - ]

I do not understand.

Who are you?

Do you only want to be a creature that survives or something more? Carve your name into the world that you are in. Be remembered. Be unique to someone's life. Be Lauralae.

I am nothing.

[ She shifts, and there's the sound of her body dropping - and she's curled around herself, whispering into the device. ]

I was unique to someone, but she is dead and gone. I am content with that. Why should I fight that course?

Because you do not sound like someone who is content. You sound like someone who cannot see a way out.

There is none. [ Because she feels like she is trapped, she feels broken and bitter and twisted. ] How will I make it so here?

Give it meaning, and I believe you can make it more than this.

[ He cannot tell her what to do. Still, his heart goes out for her - this young, trapped girl. This could be him, eventually. Give or take five or six centuries of loneliness and metamorphosis of the body and soul. ]

[ She is only eighty-two, but she feels as though she has lived three lives - before, during and after. Before the curse, during her self-inflicted loneliness and after the loss of her adoptive mother. It aches deep inside of her. ]

It sounds so simple in such short words.

The simplest things can be the hardest to accomplish.

[ But he smiles at her, like she's beautiful and unique. A sandworm in the desert, claws and the skin of loneliness. ]

But I believe you can.

Some might say impossible.

[ Lauralae closes her eyes and curls around herself, face pressed into her arm, voice a mumble. ]

And you do not know me.

How can I? You will not let anyone know you.

None have wished to know me.
