[ girl of his dreams which he only barely managed to remind himself he shouldn't say out loud cuz that sounds like one of those 'too soon' sentiments.

instead he kisses back and when they break apart, he smiles as hard as he possibly can.

[She reaches out and lightly touches his lower lip.] It's perfect. [She's happy. What more could she possibly want? There hasn't been enough of this. Maybe she should let herself have as much as she can get and shouldn't have made the guy she's with feel like he has to be as withholding as she has been.]

[ honestly with all the compliments she's given him, all the feelings they've shared, he doesn't feel like she's withholding. ]

You know what you're doing.

[ she makes him smile like she wrote the encyclopedia on the subject. ]

[She was really bad at the withholding part. She's better at this part where she's just embracing it and if something happens that's future Kitty's problem. They could have months or years of never having to worry about new memories or disappearing. Why assume it will be later this week when she could enjoy this week instead?]

Yeah? You like the way I kiss, Mr. Schott?

[ but she does't even have to kiss him to get him smiling. that she gets his jokes, finds them funny instead of glaring or rolling her eyes, that she can talk tech with him, that she takes an interest in his interests - these are all exciting new experiences for him. ]

But you make me smile with or without it.

[Her smile warms at that.] I feel the same way about you. [Tracing gentle lines over his collarbone.] Hey... Do you want to hear about my family? The crazy mutant one? [The X-Men.]

[ and not surprisingly - he smiles. he loves listening to her, learning more about her and the people and things that matter to her. especially when superpowers are involved. ]

So, there's Rogue who you met last night. But the Rogue I know is married to Erik, our leader. And they have the cutest baby son together. Erik's here too. Well, a version of him. They actually look a lot more age appropriate right now than they do back home. And I'm going to be all over the place with this, aren't I? [How do you even tell stories? She's just really happy he wants to listen.]

Rogue and Erik's multiverse twins are here, in your world they're together, in this one she's dating Loki even though their age gap's improved. I'm following!

[ it's a good thing he's a pretty smart guy ]

That's right. And they're from two different worlds too. Uh, we have at least four worlds with X-Men going there. Erik is the one working on making my claws for me. The Erik here at least. The Erik at home made them the first time. We found some great metal for it. It just needs to be stripped of the toxins that have leeched in so that it doesn't rot my arms off. [That might sound familiar, not that she knows it's passed hands to Hank at all.]

[ it does sound familiar, and it gives him hope -- maybe she wouldn't be too upset that hank is basically his brother from another universe if she's getting help from him too -- ? ]

OK - so straighten the worlds out for me. There's yours and Kurt's, Erik's, Rougue's -

Erik, Charles, and Hank are all from one world. Rogue, a different, younger Kurt, Remy, and Mystique are from another one. It's also the same world the other Kitty I knew in the prison is from. And then Ororo and Laura are from the same one. That was the one Logan was from too before he disappeared. I haven't heard from Ororo in awhile either... [She's worried the same thing is happening to her.] Mm, and I think Kate and the other Hawkeye are from there too? Oh! And then there's Wanda. She's from the same world as my captain and they're both Avengers, but Wanda was a mutant and an X-Man in my world, but she got her powers through experiments in hers? So I don't even know what's going on there.

Did that make it more or less confusing? Maybe we should number these things.

I think I'm counting 5, unless I'm getting it wrong. Let's see how well I'm keeping up.

Number 1 - your and Kurt's world. In it - Erik's the leader, he's with Rogue, there's a Wanda there.

Number 2 - Rogue and Kurt's multiverse double's world - the one whose you you've met.

Number 3 - Hank, Erik, and Charles' world

Number 4 - Logan's, world - possibly Kate's too -

Number 5 - Your Captain's world, where there's also a Wanda but she's not a mutant.

How'd I do? [ yeah ok even he couldn't keep all the names straight so he tried to stick with the ones he was mostly sure of. ]

I guess that works. I mean, they aren't very creative numbers You could have gone with 616 or something for Logan's world. Make it a real challenge.

You left some people out and there only used to be a Wanda in my world. Remember, everything is always the worst there. [But she smiles softly, wanting to keep this upbeat.] But impressive listening skills anyway. [She kisses him gently.]

[ oh. he returns he kiss, and strokes her hair - trying to offer comfort without breaking the mood. ]

I'll do better next time. I'm great at tests.

You're great at a lot of things. [She smiles back.] Wanda died before I ever joined the team. It was an early mission. I met her for the first time here. But her twin brother is someone from my team. Pietro. His thing is super speed. His codename was Quicksilver. He even had silver hair to match.

[ giving her shoulder a little squeeze, even if she didn't know her. ]

Super speed's an awesome one - [ theoretically if one could go fast enough - one might be able to break the inter-dimensional barrier. maybe a theme to explore. ] Any idea how fast he can go?

I'm not sure exactly. Definitely faster than sound. [She snuggles in closer.] Logan was the one who trained me. I mean, most of the X-Men had some lessons for me, but he was the one in charge of me. His codename was Weapon X back home, but the one here went by Wolverine who was an entirely different person where I'm from. His power is a healing factor. He can heal from things that would kill almost anyone else. And he has the claws and heightened senses. A cigar habit. He's shorter than me. Some questionable hair styling.

...He's important to me. [Like a father, but she doesn't say it. Doesn't ever really even admit that part to herself.]

[ healing power. what he wouldn't give for kitty having that one. he holds her protectively - as if he could ever protect her from anything. if trouble stirred, he's the one who'd need protection - she doesn't need to say the words for him to get her meaning. ]

He sounds like a great guy.

[ he couldn't be a huge influence on someone as wonderful as kitty if he were any less. ]

He would just grunt at you if he heard you say that. [She smiles but it dims.] There's more, but it falls into everything is the worst at home category. [But she'll let him in if he wants in.]

You lost him? [ he doesn't want to dredge up painful memories, but they seem to already be surfacing and he doesn't want to leave her to face them alone, either.

she said most things wouldn't kill him, but even if he is still alive...there are plenty of other ways to lose someone, he should know. ]

He left the X-Men with Jean. Kurt never forgave him for that. I understood, but...it was hard. [It was part of why she pushed herself into Piotr's arms so young. Yes, she loved him, but she just wanted some kind of security too. Someone who would love her back and stay with her. It all feels a little pathetic to her now looking back.] But that wasn't the bad part. I thought it was for a long time, but Kurt is from years into the future from where I was.

He lived to see us defeat Apocalypse...and for Logan to become our enemy. He's the reason almost all of the X-Men are dead now.

I don't know what to do with that. I wanted to talk to the Logan here at least, but then he disappeared. [She's just been carrying it around for weeks.]

[ he breath catches in his throat, and he just holds her tight for a long moment. betrayed. again. it blows him away, how strong she is - that she could even trust people at all after all of that. that she would take a chance on him, considering what he might become. ]

Do you know...how it happened?

[ how he changed so drastically -- why? how could he turn on someone who cares for him this much? ]
