We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

I gathered. The first thing you should know about magic is that it's the best, and anyone who says otherwise is just mad at how less effective they are than a proper mage.

Well, that hurts a little. [She doesn't manage to sound offended though.] Me and my phasing get by just fine.

Oh, your... walking-through-walls thing? How does that work, anyway?

That's the one. I just slip my atoms around the atoms of other things and just, you know, [How would anyone know?] go through them instead of around.

... Okay, I have to admit here, I'm sort of an amnesiac, and don't remember a lot of things. But I remember enough of high school science to know that that is not how atoms work. Like, at all.

It's how mine work. You saw it happen.

I saw you go through a wall. I've seen my little sister go through walls, when she spent a while as a ghost. I didn't see anything about atoms.

Your sister was a ghost?

No. Not normally? Side-effect from a shitty board game. I got stuck as a werewolf for a couple hours around that same time.

I don't think I remember those squares on Monopoly. [Pass Go, Collect Werewolf-ism] Community Chest got intense.

... I don't know what Monopoly is in this context.

After the Pokemon, I'm not sure why I bother questioning anything anymore.

Oh, um... They're weird sort of... Little monster things from my little sister's world. Most of them are cute, and then some of them are apparently powerful enough to destroy and recreate her world.

I stopped questioning it after a while.

Kind of an adopted sister situation? [She has picked up some family-like people along the way herself. No one she officially gives a title to though.]

Yeah. Technically, we're teammates, but it's a bit of a pain to explain that part here.

You don't have to go into it. I get the teammate bond. Or at least I get the ones I have. I know they can be strong.

Yeah... It's a nice bond to have.

Are any of your teammates here?

Kurt is. Er, Kurt Darkholme, not Wagner. Well, Wagner too, but we're from different versions of the same team. Same goes for most of the other X-Men here. Except I know some of them as X-Men and they aren't and some of them are X-Men when I don't know them that way. But Rogue, Remy, Ororo, Erik...Laura [Even though she definitely didn't know her from home.] It gets complicated. [Charles was dead. Hank was evil. Mystique was an ally, but definitely isn't in this form. And then Wanda who isn't even a mutant somehow? But her feelings aren't the same here.]

Actually...Laura might be someone you could talk to about this dance?

... Oh, right, we were talking about that. What's she like?

[She's heard the X-Men mentioned a couple of times- Hell, three of the ones here came from the same shithole she had. But she was never particularly close to any of them, so she doesn't know much about that group.]

She's really pretty. [What's the nice way to say damaged?] Tough, resilient, experienced. Hell of a fighter. She doesn't waste words.

[Sadly, any implications of damage go right over her head. The rest seems to sink in, as she unconsciously fiddles with her hair a bit.]

Well... Sounds like someone I'd like to meet, anyway.

Meeting is a great idea! ...That I did not think through in the slightest. She is talking to me if you want to just jump in and set something up?

... You should probably think this through for people who don't know each other. If it's a masquerade, trying to get people to meet up with people they don't know while in masks is gonna end badly.
