I am glad. [ Maglor hums softly, pleased and a little wistful.

We were not the best of families, were we? Curufin's ghost agrees ]

You will find few stauncher in their loyalty than Finrod Felagund.

[dancingmd]

[Her smile dims, ever so slightly.]

That I know well.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor's eyes shutter at the dimming of her smile and he draws a deep breath of understanding ]

... What has happened here to bring that knowledge to your eyes?

[dancingmd]

[She hesitates a moment before answering, her tone uncertain.]

There was... Atroma did something to our augments, claimed they were being calibrated and repaired. In the course of those supposed repairs, we were... exposed to one another's dreams and memories, against our will. I have seen into Finrod's mind, and he into mine.

[She stops there, waiting to gauge his reaction, to see what he knows.]

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor's eyes are clouded with pain and he nods, slowly ]

How much... did you learn of the days before he came here?

[dancingmd]

Not everything. He was aware, to some extent, of my presence with him. Even if we could not control my being there, I didn't ask to see anything he didn't want to show me.

[Another hesitation. This could be a really bad idea, if she's wrong about when Maglor came from, so she is going to make sure.]

You are from what Finrod would consider the future, aren't you?

[bythewaves]

That family always had great powers of the mind.

[ Maglor nods slowly ] I am - many years separate us.

[dancingmd]

Then...

[She takes a deep breath, trying to stay calm. It's difficult though though to talk about what she saw. Her hand shakes ever so slightly as she talks.]

I know. I know how he died. I saw it, I felt it... everything.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor sighs - a long, tired, painful noise ]

I see. Thank you for carrying that pain with him.

[dancingmd]

[Carrying pain, trying to fix it - it's what she does. Her eyes start to water but the tears don't fall, not yet.]

He was hurting so much and was so... he didn't want to burden anyone else and locked it all away and I couldn't - I would do anything I could to help him.

[bythewaves]

That is so much like him. [ He murmurs softly ] Always carrying the weight of the world so that no one else will worry. But that you know, I think... I think it must be a relief, for him.

[ He bows over her hand, deeply, a supplicant ]

Thank you. For helping to carry his burden.

[dancingmd]

[The bow takes her by surprise and blinking, she sits up straighter. There's a moment of quiet uncertainty, as she struggles to find the best response. Truth be told, the bow makes her uncomfortable, raised as she was in the egalitarian Federation, but she recognizes that this is a gesture of deep respect and gratitude, so she will be careful not to disregard that sentiment.]

It is... my honor to help him bear this. He has carried enough for me and no doubt for others as well.

[bythewaves]

He always does. [ Maglor smiles wistfully as he straightens ]

Finrod the Valiant, Friend-of-Men, and Dwarf-friend, also, a title so few ever gain. Do you know, we visited him once, my older brother and I, in his halls. And we saw him playing with the children - one of them wore his crown! And he told us that there was no finer treasure in all his halls than them.

[dancingmd]

[As if Beverly needed more reason to love Finrod and now you are telling her about him playing with children.]

I can perfectly picture him saying that.

[Then she looks sad again.]

He would have been a good father.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor nods wistfully ]

He would have, yes. But his sweetheart did not cross the sea with him, and he took no wife. He might have fostered a few, I suppose, but I never heard ought of them if he did.

[dancingmd]

His sweetheart?

This is the first I've heard of her.

[BEVERLY NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE NOSY AND YET...]

I suppose he would not want to bring her too close to memory - but her name was Amarië, and she was one of his mother's people, the Vanyar.

[dancingmd]

[Beverly nods and goes quiet for a moment, thoughtful.]

It is... difficult sometimes, to think about a partner you have lost.

[bythewaves]

Mm, it can be. I heard later that because they were not wed her father forbade her to follow, but only Finrod knows the truth of the matter. For all I know, he asked her to stay behind for her protection.

[dancingmd]

I can see that as well. Ever the protector.

[She has already had to make him promise not to fight Tek and Max on her behalf so. This makes a lot of sense.]

[bythewaves]

He is, yes.

[ Maglor's tone is very fond, but sad, too. ]

That family have also the ability to see further ahead than most. If he told her himself not tocome, he must have had some inkling of the trials he would face.

[dancingmd]

[She nods, dropping her gaze. Her voice is very quiet as she speaks.]

He knew. Not the details, not how... but he knew he would not live long.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor sighs softly ]

It does not surprise me that he knew. As I said - it runs in his branch of the family. His younger sister is perhaps one of the strongest at such things that I knew.

[dancingmd]

But how...

[She frowns.]

Forgive me for being a skeptic but... how can one really predict the future, when there are so many possible paths, so many things might happen?

[bythewaves]

You would have to ask Finrod or Galadriel if she ever comes here for the details, I fear. But as I understand it, it is a gift that is very hard to bear, for interpretation of what one sees is unreliable, at best, and frustratingly vague and insubstantial, at worst.
