Machines, however . . . the klaxon warnings of the Butlerian Jihad never fully leave. Still, watching someone play with wires and screws as if they were in a playground . . . it was a new experience. ]
Trying to fix the universe?
no subject
Maybe not the universe just quite yet. Baby steps.
What brings you here?
[ Though his tone said that Leto's presence was more than welcome. ]
no subject
No reason. I had a few errands to run here and there, so I thought I'd stop by.
[ His tone is tentative though, as if he's not sure that's socially acceptable. ]
no subject
Well, I'm glad you did. I always enjoy time with you, Leto. Besides, I could use a break from this. I'm a little stumped, so time away from it might help.

It's... it's going to sound silly, but I was try to make a projector of sorts. It won't actually be that useful, but it keeps me busy.
no subject
[ He tilts his head. ] Surely a projector would come in handy.

I wanted to program star-scapes. Like the one I would see from Earth. Just... something from home, you know?
[ He plucked at a few bits of wire. ]
It could be programmed for multiple scapes or anything else, really.

[ Though technically, the stars are still there. Still, everyone looks for familiarity where they can. ]
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied
[ He smiles. ]
You have the sea-fever.
no subject
[ He cocked his head at him. ]
The sea-fever?
no subject
[ He hums the next line. ]
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life.
Books lose me. It's hard to be engaged in material that resides in your mind, but poetry . . . poetry is limitless.

[ He chuckled, finding it hard to argue with that assessment of himself. It was true, after all. He remembered an encounter with another captain, the words he had said - that sooner or later, Kirk would find himself more at home on his ship, in the stars, then he ever would on Earth. ]
That's.... more accurate than I think you might have meant it to be.
Are you an avid poet, Leto?
no subject
I have no talent for the creative arts. Certainly, I can master or act out any role or scene, but I borrow from the skills of my ancestors.
no subject
Just fake it til you make it, right?
[ He grinned and winked at him. ]
no subject
[ Though he's grateful to Aather for giving him some social skills. ]
no subject
Heh, don't worry - there's a lot of faking on my part too. Can't tell you how many times I've had to bluff my way out of something.
no subject
[ He swings back and forth idly. ] In a way, I'm a bit of a cheater.
no subject
[ He snorted. ]
You? Cheat? Never.
no subject
I'm sure you've seen me cheat plenty of times now.
no subject
Maybe I have, maybe I haven't.
But between you and me, not as if I'm in a position to talk.
no subject
There are many kinds of positions to be. I knew a man - a good friend, desperate to prove he was a hero. A good man. And he would keep pedestals in his heart for all those other heroes he saw. One of them was me.
I liked many things about him. But never that part.
no subject
[ He cocked his head at him again. ]
I can see that. You don't strike me as the sort to enjoy being put upon the metaphorical pedestal.
no subject
[ The throne was enough. The Fremen fanaticism was enough. And the universe would soon follow at the heels of the God Emperor.
He shrugs loosely. ]
We all have positions. Saying we have only one makes us very limited creatures.
no subject
I don't know. I don't mind the idea of being someone people can look up to. As a captain, I have to be. But... you're right. I'm not sure I would want to be a hero on a pedestal. I'm just me, trying to do what I feel is right.
[ He gives him a wry smile, finishing cleaning up his area somewhat. ]
So, Leto, would you care for some pancakes?
no subject
