Weirdly, I realized it was probably my birthday the other day.

[ she gasps, puts down the fabric at once ]
Oh, why did you not say anything? we would have held a celebration. A name day is very important and a very good reason to find any form of wine we could and drink it together. How old are you?

[ she shakes her head ]
Time is weird. The last place I was before here didn't keep track of it the same way.

[ she thinks of it ]
Let us decide to celebrate it today then and we shall decide you are eight-and-ten.
[ better younger than older, after all ]
What would you like for a gift?

[ she hums in thought and looks at her ]
I do reckon blue will be a good color for it.

[ it's decided. she rises to look through her collection of fabrics ]
should we do flowers? mayhaps leaves?
no subject
Leaves would be better. Flowers are more of my sister's thing.

[ she smiles and fetches the blues she had achieved, spreads them so they may choose between them ]
The darker one is nice but I do favor the lighter color, what do you reckon?

[ she takes it without any further argument, moving back to take her hand in hers and press another kiss to the other cheek ]
the dark one, then. Happy nameday. May you have many more and may they all be blessed.

Thank you... you're being way too nice about everything.
I wish there were better food, though. I don't need anything special, it'd just... be kind of nice.

[ she sits, smile turns into a little faux pout ]
It would have been nice to have some cakes to celebrate with. Mayhaps some fruit, too. I do miss it. The food is quite terrible, I hate saying it, I pity the poor cooks.

My father was killed when the mine he was in collapsed. After that, my mother couldn't take care of us. I can't remember what I told you about how my society is set up, but where I lived in District 12 was probably one of the poorest places in the country. I was 11 and Prim was 7. There are ways to get food from the government, but you have to be between 12 and 18 to qualify, so I couldn't, and my mother couldn't get out of bed to feed us... it's not like we had anything to buy bread with anyway.

[ that was joffrey's biggest mistake. a good thing he will have a queen to amend the impression ]

It's kind of in the Capitol's best interest to keep people hungry and poor, though.

[ she takes her hand, entwines their fingers together ]
I am so sorry they have been so cruel.

There was an uprising, about 75 years ago. The Capitol completely destroyed one of the Districts completely, bombing it out.
Since the uprising was quashed, every year each of the remaining Districts has had to send a boy and a girl into something called the Hunger Games. It's called that because you can get food—but only if you put your name in more times for the lottery. Unless they take food, the 12 year olds have their name in once, the 13 year olds have their name in twice, et cetera. If your name gets called, you must go to the Capitol and fight the other Tributes from each District to the death. The one who survives is the Victor... Your District gets food and you become a celebrity—and Capitol puppet.
Primrose had her name called the first year she was entered, but I volunteered in her place.
[ ooc: sorry if she already explained the premise I CAN'T REMEMBER ]
she didn't, worry not!
[ as cruel as westeros can be and the cruelest to the smallfolk, to those who simply wish for food and clean water and compassion from those who reign over them? the games of politics very rarely consider these people ]
she is fortunate to have such a brave sister.

Anyway, I won. The boy from my District, Peeta, and I... we made a risky move, but ended up being the first dual winners.

[ her smile softens ]
I admit - you will forgive me, Nova, it shall sound so weak of me, I have grown use to their protection. It is very odd to be here without them, I do miss them so.
no subject
I can imagine that, yeah.
Well, I'm not a brother, and I don't think you have anything to worry about, but I'd do a lot to protect my friends, too.
