inquisitor's path 1: well, shit
Who: Jove Lavellan
Broadcast: fleetwide video
Action: the marsiva
When: right now!!
Well.
[It's half breathless, half amused, and said with something of a strained grin. Why does weird shit keep happening to her. At least this time when she's waking up there's no chains around her wrists or incredibly intimidating women shouting questions at her. Her hand aches dimly, but it's nowhere near as bad as she's used to. She must be very far from home if she can't feel any rifts nearby.]
Could someone tell me what year it is? One moment you're jumping through a magical mirror and now here I am in... whatever this is.
I'm fairly certain it's not the Fade and I don't feel particularly dead.
[And then, more quietly,]
Cassandra is going to kill me.

So he smiles, a rare honest one, and turns on the video feed.]
Well. I suppose you're safe from Cassandra for the moment. And you get the pleasure of being greeted by me.
video;
[Alright, this just about makes everything better. If there's some sort of strange time magic going on again, between herself and Dorian there's no way they can't sort things out.]
I'd like to think such a casual greeting means everything is just fine, but I know you too well. Care to catch me up?
video;
[He smiles.]
I missed you. Varric is here but...he doesn't know of us, yet. Some strangeness with the timeline. What is this mirror business?
video; TINIEST OF PLOT SPOILERS
[Such teasing. But she smiles at him too, the kind of smile that says she understands what this means to him even if he'd rather not say it clearly. They've always been good at filling in the blanks with each other, after all.]
I can't be too upset about being here, then. Last I remember we were fleeing the Temple of Mythal through an Eluvian, is that, ah... anything like what you remember?

His demeanor changes a little. More honest.]
I had just come from speaking with my father, after he asked me to come home.
It would seem that this place can pluck us from our lives almost at random. Curious.
video; encrypted;
It is curious. [But none of that matters much now that she knows what's most recently happened to him in their time.] Are you alright, Dorian?

[He looks away for a moment, and then back at the comm.]
It heartens me to see you here. I missed you terribly.
[She was his truest and only real friend. Having her back made him smile, honestly, for the first time since arriving.]
video; encrypted;
He's more than her best friend, he's family.]
I hope there's a way for me to find you here. I'd hate to open a rift in the Fade just to come see you and see this whole ship implode.
video; encrypted;
[He smiles wryly.]
I will, of course, be waiting for the moment we do. Unless fate decides to smile on us and you're assigned to my ship.
video; encrypted;
My hair looks fine, thank you. You focus on your own grooming.
[The news about having to wait is unwelcome, though. It seems a cruel joke, putting them this close together an yet unable to actually have a conversation face to face. She might joke about opening rifts but it certainly isn't a thing she's going to try for something so small.]
Which ship is yours? And while we're at it, why don't you tell me exactly what you've been up to without me to keep you in line?
video; encrypted;
[And then he sighs a bit.]
Not drinking, unfortunately. I haven't been able to locate a decent whiskey. But let's see...I arrived, met someone else from Tevinter- Fenris, I see you've met him. He and I have had some rather...interesting discussions. And then, what do you know? He up and murders someone for keeping a slave.
By the way, said slave is on my ship and is utterly despondent, but there's not much I can do about that. You're aware of what a cuddly man I am.
[He makes a small face.]
I wish I could do more, but...I don't know these people, yet. They're not you.
video; encrypted;
[Josephine. Creators, she misses them all already. Like Dorian she hopes time will just stop at home, that no one will worry about her. That her presence here means the world as they know it will be doomed because she isn't there to do her job.
They're not you, he says, and she laughs a little weakly.]
I'm just an elf, Dorian. You mean the world to me, but that doesn't mean you should hold yourself back because other people don't measure up.

[He smiles, though, and scoffs a bit. She's right, she usually is. It's just hard for him to trust. Living in a world where he could expect a knife in the back for opposing the Venatori, for being a revolutionary upstart in Tevinter...and beyond that, moving from place to place, living on the road...
He had learned to not make friends, not until he joined the Inquisition. It was right, and he was certain that they would save Thedas, but...in some way, he was saving himself, in the process.
Something to think over.]
You're my friend. That means I'll consider your advice. At the very least, I suppose there could be worse company.
video; encrypted;
His own father, and she shudders at the memory. That alone is enough to make her want to be sure Dorian ends up surrounded by as many friends as possible. What a good way to prove the point.]
I only have Felix and myself to judge by, but you've made good choices so far. Even Alexius wasn't so terrible until the end. You'll be fine, Dorian.
