VIDEO

[ The video starts suddenly, with Caitlin sitting straight up, eyes open and wide with fear.

More than what's warranted with waking up in a strange place.

Her head bows, her eyes going directly to her wrists. It seems she's checking both of them, rubbing absently at them, as if she expected to find something. (Shackles or handcuffs, that's what she's looking for.) If she's reassured there's nothing there, she certainly doesn't look it. When she looks back up, her gaze sweeping around the room, she's trying to place where she is, what's happened. This isn't Barry's lab at CCPD, it isn't STAR Labs, and it definitely isn't Zoom's lair.

It's a few minutes before she looks right into the camera, her head tilting with curiosity. ] Hello?

[ Then the feed cuts out. ]

TEXT

[ The text follows about ten minutes later. ]

This is going to sound odd, but: whoever or whatever brought me here, thank you. I need to get back to Central City, though.

[ the girl that appears on the screen is quite short but what she lacks in height, she makes up for in spirit as she basically bounces in her lab ]

[ she seems to remember something a moment afterwards. oh yeah ]

seriously long story that involves me sassing a bunch of aliens and becoming -

[ well ]

it'll wear off eventually, I mean, I'm 88% sure. Are you ok?

[ Caitlin's eyes narrow as she studies the girl in the video. It's sad to say, but she doesn't have many friends, and of them, the number of that set who are female is very, very slim. But the funny thing about friendship, especially on a certain level, is that you'd know someone no matter what they may look like and — ]

Cisco?

[ Her voice breaks over his—her name, and for a moment, her chin quivers. But she takes a breath (one that sounds vaguely tearful) and steadies herself. ]

I'm okay.

[ something's wrong. cisco can feel it and it sends a chill up his bone. caitlin usually steels herself even in the hardest of situations. the last time he had seen her like that was when -

when ronnie died. ]

hey - look it's just me and you. I encrypted it. What happened? have they hurt you?

[ She shakes her head. Her face is growing warmer, and god, she wishes that Cisco was here and not just on a screen. ]

No. They haven't, no. [ She swallows hard. ] Kara said that here, people may not be from the same point in the timeline. What's the last thing you remember from home?

Yeah these fuckers messed up the timeline and the multiverse like true champions of sucking. King Shark.

[ and then, urgently ]

Why? What was it for you?

[ ... he doesn't know. King Shark, when the grief for Jay was fresh and raw. When she'd pretended to be turning into her doppelganger.

She bows her head, taking a moment to collect herself, her thoughts. ]

That was three months ago, for me. And I-I — it wouldn't make sense, what I remember and where I was, because there's so much I have to tell you first.

Caitlin, ok let's go over it bit by bit, ok?

[ he really hates having this conversation as a girl, fuck you atroma. ]

King Shark was gone. What happened next? let's do it in a list of essential things I need to know about.

We were working on getting Barry faster. He was — well, we all were determined to get back to Earth-2 and stop Zoom.

[ She pauses, taking a moment to consider what was next. ]

There was a female speedster. I don't think you met her, but it was Eliza Harmon from Mercury Labs. I had gone to her for help with Velocity-9. I thought if I could find a way to stabilize it, to negate the damaging effects, that it would help Barry. I followed all the proper protocol, I never gave her all the components, but she reverse-engineered it and started injecting herself with it.

[ She pauses again, this time to give Cisco a moment to process, to ask questions if he needed to. ]

Female speedster?

[ ... ]

I've been waiting for it since the day Barry woke up. I can't believe she's gone cray.

[ bummer ]

She even named herself. Trajectory.

[ That isn't the point, but it's a detail she can't skip. Cisco had bemoaned it then. ]

The Velocity-9, it caused massive cellular degeneration. She ... well, all of her cells broke down while Barry was chasing her. She was fast. So fast that her lightning turned blue.

[ Blue like Zoom. That's the only time they'd ever seen that. ]

With the blue lightning and the degeneration, like what was killing Jay, we ... we put it together. You touched Jay's helmet and —

[ God, she wishes she could tell him this in person. It may not be easier, but it wouldn't be this. ]

Cisco, Jay is Zoom.

-- I could vibed it wrong. You know my vibes are a mess. I could have made a mistake, I mean.

[ the girl places a hand above her heart. not again. ]

We saw Zoom kill him.

No, we saw Jay kill his time remnant.

[ She sighs softly. ]

So after you vibed that, Barry became ... obsessed. He decided his best bet was to travel back in time and talk to Dr. Wells. [ Eobard Thawne. ] And he gave Barry the answer. The Speed Force equation led to the tachyon enhancer and ... he was four time faster than he'd ever been. So we — well, he decided, but we all went along, except for Harry, decided that we were ready.

[ There's something in her face, her eyes as she recalls the story. A soft, subtle flinch every time she says Barry's name. ]

Cisco, do you remember the things Reverb could do with his and yours abilities?

and I was about to say speed mirage.

[ mumbled mostly to themselves. so psychotic speedsters don't repeat each other's tricks, huh? that makes sense in an awful sort of way ]

----- I have an oddly ominous feeling it all went wrong if only because we're counting on the advice of - him.

[ thawne. ]

...only too well. mostly in my nightmares.

That was our guess, too.

[ She isn't going to comment on Thawne, because the less they talk about him, the better. For everyone. ]

We asked Harry about them, if he knew more. He said — he said Reverb could open breaches. So, by extension, you could do that too.

So.

-- I can open breaches?

[ the girl looks somewhat disheartened by this. even here, even in this pocket dimension when this might come in handy, might give them the way home, all of them.

the news of it frighten cisco to the core. each skill is one step farther from him and one step closer to Reverb and- ]

Did it work?

Work, as in opening one? Yes. Harry recalibrated your goggles to better see the interdimensional energies.

[ But there's that hesitation. There's the good(?) news, but here comes the bad. ]

We had him. Or... we thought we had him. Lured him to STAR Labs, got a boot on him. But he got out of it, he ... he could have done it at any time, but he ... I don't know. He got away, he took Wally. Left a message that he'd trade Wally for Barry's speed.

[ They're getting closer to her point in the timeline, but there's still more. ]

We learned that you can communicate between worlds using your vibes.

[ he feels hollow all of the sudden. this is like eobard all over again, the betrayal, believing lies and mirages, the broken trust, the fact that those bastards seem to always be one step ahead of them.

and the truth of cisco's powers growing stronger, somehow. ]

tell me we didn't give him Barry's speed. there had to be another way.

[ Why couldn't they have this talk in person? Why did she have to be stuck on this ship? Her friend is hurting, she can tell that, even with a different face.

Her chest hurts. ]

There wasn't time. And ... we both know Barry.

...We'll fix this, Caitlin. I promise.

[ it's not a promise he should be able to make but if she's here and he's here, then they can fix this. they can go back to central city and make this right. anything so Caitlin won't look so devastated. ]

I'll find a way to get us home, we'll get Barry's speed back and we'll beat Jay - Zoom, whatever that psycho's name is.

There isn't a way to fix this. We can't.

[ Admitting it, saying it out loud — that's the straw that broke the camel's back. She can't hold it back any more; she already feels heartsick and sick sick. Her eyes close, tears running freely down her face as her shoulders shake.

It's safe here, relatively speaking. She doesn't have to keep a brave face. ]

Caitlin - hi come on. It's me, I'm here. I'll make sure you're taken care of until we go back and we'll fix it, we always fix it.

[ he wants to reach through the device and hug her. whatever it is that's going back home, if it's bad enough to make caitlin break, it's bound to terrifying and horrible ]

[ She just shakes her head, over and over and over again. ]

Barry's gone,Cisco. He's gone. Jay didn't tell me how, just that he was.

[ a second of stunned silence and then ]

he lies Caitlin. He wants to bring you down, he's lying to you. Barry's not gone. Everything Jay - him told us was a lie.

I-I [ She takes a hiccuping breath. ] I want to believe that. But he brought over an army of metahumans from Earth-2. I could hear them downstairs, hear him downstairs. He said our world was defenseless.
