[Okay, that's so sweet, but she's going to start laughing. She's trying not to! Trying... Failing. Giggles are happening.]

[ giggles are accepted with appreciation! they're really cute. he chuckles into her hair ]

It was cute. Did... [She cuts herself right back off because asking if the parent who turned evil or the one who abandoned him used to sing it to him is uncool.] Did you always like singing?

[ what are you talking about? it's great mood conversation. ]

No more than everyone, I think. [ he shrugs ] I like singing in the car, and along with theme songs, and karaoke's fun - [ he's excitable, that always made him want to participate, and tv never minded if he participated with it, unlike the boys he grew up with. ] I've been doing it a little bit more since this girl I met said she liked my voice.

She sounds like a smart cookie. [Kissing his jaw.] I've never karaoked before. Go ahead. Be shocked.

Well you're gonna get to now. Because I've been working on converting the songs on Cisco's phone into karaoke tracks. Go ahead. Be shocked.

[ another project, yup. but this one is easy and fun and reminded him a little bit of what he'd be doing back home cuz at least it was on a computer. this one was purely to lift his spirits. ]

So shocked. Every part of me is shocked. Can you see it? [Kiss.] Taste it?

Mmmhm - tastes like sarcasm with a dash of what am I gonna do with you.

Do I ever taste like anything else? [Smiling.]

There're variations - there's the 'what is my life' flavor, that one's a little sweeter, and the 'oh my god you nerd', that one's a little heavier on the salt. And of course, there's my personal favorite - the 'shut up, you're using your mouth for the wrong thing'.

[She laughs and presses in to use his mouth for the right thing—affectionate and lingering. You forgot the "I love you and I'm glad I found you" flavor.

[ he returns the kiss, and lingers close, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb. ]

Or maybe it was all a clever ruse to have you remind me.

Oh no, I fell into your trap. [Kisses again.] What will I do?

Embrace defeat, it's your only choice.

[ he can't really stop smiling as he's kissing her, and it's not how he expected the night to go when he woke up but that's the thing about kitty - she's always taking him by surprise. always making everything better. ]

[After making them a little worse first though, amirite?] Never. [She smiles and nuzzles against him between kisses. Not really trying to lead anywhere with it. Just enjoying the affection.]

[ everyone does that, but not everyone can end a night where he was feeling pretty hopeless and terrible with him feeling hopeful, giddy, and smiling like an idiot.

he hums contently at the nuzzling, he's not really going anywhere himself here, not yet. it's late, and they're both tired even if for the moment his mind seems to have forgotten. besides, this is important. this is great. he needs a comeback. ]

I love you. [ it's not a comeback. he doesn't care. ]

You better. [She nuzzles in warmly. It is kind of incredible to her how she could have been so worked up not long before and now so content with him again.]

[ maybe the chemicals really have been giving him some superpowers. or maybe it's just hard to stay mad at someone who, even when he does the wrong thing, does it because he's trying so hard to do right. or secret option c. secret option c involves pizza plants. ]

That's my line. [ he chuckles and runs his fingers through her hair. ]

[She was never really mad at him. Worried, definitely. That's not gone, but she has faith in him.]

I stole it all for myself and you can't have it back. Mmm... [Happy sound at the fingers in her hair.]

[ worry he understands all too well. it's worry that's making it so hard for him to take care of himself. ]

So generous with your snacks and so greedy with lines...what is up with your priorities?

[ he'll just keep on doing that then. ]

[Her greatest weakness. Practically purring against him.] They are the best priorities of all the priorities.

Hmmn. The noble thing to do would be proving you wrong, but then no snacks for me...

[ the struggle is real. he shakes his head a little and boops her nose with his own. ]

This is why I'm only the sidekick. [ whispering in her ear. ]

[She finds all of that very cute and whispering in the ear is always fun, but she still has to school him.]

Wrong. [She kisses him softly.] You're my partner. [Like she'd sleep with a sidekick. Please.]

[ she actually takes his breath away for a moment there. he's not really sure why this just seemed to have hit the perfect combination inside of him to unleash so much emotion - she's been telling him unbelievably sweet things all along, and it's not like kara's ever called him a sidekick, she's always telling him how irreplaceable and important he is - but there's just something about the word partner that seems to hit so many of his insecurities.

he's always felt like a coward, and it's gotten worse in the fleet, when he sees the way people look at him after every time he gets off a shuttle. he feels useless - the one thing he's always been best at he's not even good at anymore. and yet here's this amazing hero - strong, brave, powerful - calling him her partner, pulling him up to her level. maybe it's just in jest, they both know he'd be just a hindrance in a physical battle, that's for sure. but.

but.

he pulls away a little, to look at her face with a smile that's so goofy, and moved, and grateful, and determined to earn that word - earn it for real, not just as banter. he's always fantasized about being a superhero, and in times like these, kitty makes him feel like maybe - just maybe - someday he really could be one. ]

[She doesn't think they have all the same strengths or weaknesses for that matter, but she sees him as an equal. This would never work if she didn't. He doesn't need to be a superhero for that to her. He just needs to be someone she respects and trusts. Someone she can lean on and who will lean on her.]

Hi. [Looking up at him and maybe not knowing exactly what she did to deserve this look and smile she's getting.]
