[Wrath's very excited about having so many of her friends around. While she likes showing off the Windrose, she decided the Iskaulit would be a better place. There are plenty of spare rooms not far from the mural where she can set up temporarily, and this way she's not taking up her ship's dining area and making things difficult for her crewmates.

She's got snacks lined up--including more dried bacon kelp--and an array of good drinks. Officer Snuggles, released from his tactical fox vest, is hanging around in the hopes that some ~~sucker~~ kind stranger will feed him under the table.

A deck of cards is waiting, and she managed to find a box of game tokens that should work well during one last trip to the moon. Everything's ready.]

[ He smiles all the same. ] Ready for your game?

[Eye roll.] You're the one from the dark ages where you eat animals, not me. [Never going to be over how gross that is.]

I think so! Beverly said she'd deal because she's played a bunch before. So I think it'll be fun.

I can't deny that.

Have you played it before? It's been a long time for me.

Um... just once. Kind of? Winter taught me how to play when--

[When she'd been having a freakout prompted by something Charles had said to her, as a matter of fact. Whoops. Not gonna say that. It's not like it's his fault there's shit wrong with her brain, she knows he was just trying to help.]

--when I was having a bad day.

[ He nods slowly. ]

It did! I wasn't feeling good [She'd been starting to dissociate, though that's not a term she knows.] and learning how to play gave me something nice to think about.

He also taught me how to knit! Um. Like on a different day.

[Which came in handy when Vision had made her feel really weird and confused about Charles and Vision's special friend Wanda. Ergh.]

[ He's starting to wonder if there's a pattern. But he dismisses it for now. ]

I didn't know our Captain had so many skills.

[She considers for a moment.] Winter and me... have a lot of stuff in common. [Our demons are neighbors.] He's really good at finding other things to think about.

Oh! And he gave me a knife. A decent one that'll actually keep an edge. Which was really nice of him, so I feel better. [Because it means she has one more way to defend herself from the nebulous things that leave her feeling paranoid in the night. And it means Winter doesn't think she's a head case that shouldn't be allowed to have weapons like the doctors had back home.]

[ Charles nods approvingly. ]

I used to have one. Left it back at home. I don't have the stomach for it, to be honest. Hurting someone else will . . . well, it'll actually hurt me in turn. So the payoff is quite awful.

[She nods.]

See, that's why I say it's not your job. [She pokes him lightly on the shoulder. It's her job to stab people. She doesn't feel bad about it later, because it is the job, and she's good at it.]

[ He takes it, good-naturedly. ]

I already have Hank as a bodyguard. Any more and I'll start feeling fragile.

[Eye roll.] Don't worry, I know you're actually tough as hell. [Grin.] For a scrublord. And Hank should've figured that out by now, he's way smarter than me.

I'm a hurfdurf, thank you very much.

Also I find that debatable.

[ Hank and Charles are very smart, but emotionally, they are terrible people. ]

[She nods somberly.] You are very full of hurfdurf. I think it's chronic.

[Skeptical look.] I've talked to Hank now, you know.

Oh? How did it go?

Really well! Hank's really nice and super smart, and he's not scared of me any more. Um. I introduced him to Officer Snuggles and we talked about what shit is like where you guys are from-- [With occasional digressions into how dumb Charles can be sometime and how he really does need looking after.] --and. Um. Oh, right. I explained to Hank why I'm not scared of you guys and think it would be dumb to do that. And Hank promised to fight with me once my back gets fixed because it sounds like he needs the practice.

[Is that everything?]

Oh, and I took out my eyeball for him and showed him how it works. He thought that was pretty cool.

Hank has an insatiable curiosity.

[ And he's relieved to know things went well. Not that he doubted it. Hank is much easier to get along with than Charles. ]

I'm glad you two became friends.

I guess? He seem interested in everything.

[And hey, smart person interested in everything she said seemed a bit odd to her, but if he's super curious, it's not like there's anyone else around from her world.]

Me too! It's really nice to make new friends.

Yes . . . It is.

[ It's strange, in a way, having friends. For the longest time, it was just Hank and Erik. Charles rarely lets people close enough to forge that kind of connection. ]

[It's probably not even your fault you have this one, Charles. If Wrath had a middle name (and a last name to make the middle name an actual middle name) it would be "relentless".]

I think I'm getting better at it too. Like with practice. But everyone from your world is really nice! I mean, at least everyone here.

We've gotten lucky. Though this is the first time I've really dealt with so many mutants.

Have you been making new friends to?

[ He blinks, considering this. ]

I believe so?

That's awesome! You're a really great friend, and you deserve good things, so that's great! [If he'd said no, she'd been mentally considering a list of who to fling at him.]

[ His lips twitch. It's the kind of thing he would have told Erik. Now the shoe was on the other foot. ]

One step at a time. I have plenty of issues to work on.
