[ The feed shakes for a few minutes before it centers on a young thirteen year old boy. He has the trademark padawan braid and robes as he sits on his knees in front of the camera. His expression is quiet and muted, though it seems like he hasn't had much sleep. His eyes are red-rimmed and tired. ]

Hello. If you could tell me if this ship is heading to Coruscant, I would be grateful. If not, I'd be happy to earn my way there through any duties you deem necessary.

[ He hesitates, pausing for far too long, biting on his lip. ] And if you -- you have seen Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Thank you.

[ Action ]

[ Obi-Wan weaves himself through the ship, his shoulders hunched and his saber in a tight white-knuckled grip. Surely Qui-Gon wouldn't have left him here . . . not after coming back. Not after their discussion.

Then again, what rights did Obi-Wan even possess?

He tugs the hood over his face and keeps a wary eye on everyone who came close. This was a strange vessel and their responses got even more confusing. Best to keep to himself until he got to Coruscant. ]

[ His voice, calling him Master - that he hadn't prepared for. Anakin retains the illusion of calm and smiled faintly then greets Obi-Wan more formally with a slight bow. ]

Skywalker. [ Breathe, Anakin. Treat him as just another Padawan. ] But you won't need to call me that. This universe... It isn't ours. You feel it, don't you?

[ He frowns, confused before giving him a hesitant nod. ]

Is . . . this a test? Are they testing me so I can go back?

[ Does this mean he can go back? A tentative hope springs back in Obi-Wan's chest. He knew that Master Qui-Gon was willing to try again, but what of the others? ]

[ He straightens. He takes a hand out and puts it on Obi-Wan's shoulder. ]

No. It's not. You have to listen to me carefully. There are going to things that seems impossible here, but you must focus on the here and now. You- You are a Jedi, you'll become the best Jedi and friend I'll ever know.

[ That doesn't make any sense. Obi-Wan isn't sure whether to agree with this man's sentiments or rebuke them. He gave up his rights to the Order. ]

I don't understand. I'm not -- I'm not a Jedi yet. I don't even know if I will be.

[ Something about that makes him soften slightly. It's rare for the Obi-Wan he knows to show that level of uncertain, seeing him like this humanizes him in a way Anakin never quite imagined. ]

You will be. You want to be a Jedi, don't you?

[ He nods his head vigorously. ]

Yes! Of course. I shouldn't have left, I know that now. I belong with the Jedi.

You-- [ The words are caught in his throat. His surprise evident in his face ] You left?

. . . You didn't know?

No. You weren't the ...sharing type.

[ He wants to ask: Would it be wrong of me to ask you what happened? But sighs instead. ]

It...will be your past. Maybe you just didn't find it important enough to tell me.

[ Obi-Wan glances away. ]

It wasn't . . . a good time.

But Master Qui-Gon brought you back. Eventually.

[ Uhh ]

I'm sure of it.

Master Qui-Gon wouldn't have come if I hadn't called him.

[ He folds his arms, a hard frown appearing on his face. ]

Tell me exactly what happened. Why did you leave, why wou-- why did Qui-Gon leave you?

[ He winces, nodding. ]

Yes, Master. We . . . were on a mission to Melida/Daan to rescue Master Tahl. We succeeded through the help of the Young, a youth cell hoping to end the civil war for both sides. Master Qui-Gon told me not to interfere or help but I . . . used our craft to help them out.

Then he said . . . I had to come back with him and I chose to stay because the Young needed me. So he left.

[ It's mind-boggling. Obi-Wan did something he would have done, once upon a time. ]

You-- Obi-Wan Kenobi. You disobeyed a direct order from your Master. [ He huffs a laugh then. ] I can't believe it. All those times you were so hard on me for doing the same thing.

[ Right, now's not the time to be smug about it ] You did the right thing. I know I would have done the same thing.

[ Obi-Wan's expression goes dark and stormy. ]

It's not about doing the right thing. It may have been right at the start but -- [ He shakes his head, his lips pressed in a tight thin line. ]

[ He folds his arms and shake his head slightly. ]

No, there are no buts. You felt it was the right thing to do and you did it. That is the living in the moment, focusing on the present and being aware of what the Living Force tells you.

{ And he is damn confident of that. ]

Then why did she die? Why did the Force abandon me?

[ His arms drop. A shock vibrates through the Force. He frowns at Obi-Wan, slight doubt crossing his expression. ]

What are you talking about?

[ His expression tightens further and he doesn't reply. ]

[ He doesn't have to say it, even if Master Tahl isn't mentioned. He forgets, sometimes, of all the people Obi-Wan has lost before he came into the picture.

He could have said the Master-like thing to say - something about the Force working in mysterious ways. But screw that. ]

I know what it must feel like. People die, whether no matter what we do to prevent that.

She didn't have to die.

[ This is not a comfortable conversation to have but he's determined to stick with it - like his Master had stuck with him. ]

But she did. She is gone, and there's nothing you can do about it. But making sure no one has to go through what you're feeling right now, that is something you can do.

[ Obi-Wan blinks furious tears from his eyes, looking anywhere but at Anakin, his hands balled into tight fists. ]

Listen to me.

[ He grips Obi-Wan's shoulders, almost shaking him. His throat refuses to work until he swallows, breathes and attune himself with the Force. ]

The anger, the sorrow you feel-- [ His voice cracks then. he killed them all he shouldn't have done that it's not the jedi way ] It will fade. You will come to love others as much as you had loved her. They won't replace her but you'll remember loving her and passing on her words and wisdom as your own. That's how you honor her death.
