[ The feed shakes for a few minutes before it centers on a young thirteen year old boy. He has the trademark padawan braid and robes as he sits on his knees in front of the camera. His expression is quiet and muted, though it seems like he hasn't had much sleep. His eyes are red-rimmed and tired. ]

Hello. If you could tell me if this ship is heading to Coruscant, I would be grateful. If not, I'd be happy to earn my way there through any duties you deem necessary.

[ He hesitates, pausing for far too long, biting on his lip. ] And if you -- you have seen Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

[ Action ]

[ Obi-Wan weaves himself through the ship, his shoulders hunched and his saber in a tight white-knuckled grip. Surely Qui-Gon wouldn't have left him here . . . not after coming back. Not after their discussion.

Then again, what rights did Obi-Wan even possess?

He tugs the hood over his face and keeps a wary eye on everyone who came close. This was a strange vessel and their responses got even more confusing. Best to keep to himself until he got to Coruscant. ]

[ Padmé is employing the same tactic she used with Takeshi-- get him to talk about something familiar to set him at ease. ]

Quiet. He doesn't talk much but he listens very well. Reeft isn't like Garen and myself.

[ He waits patiently for an explanation. ]

Exactly. You know when to wait for an answer, instead of asking again. I interact with a lot of people from different backgrounds and worlds, and very few of them know when to wait.

[ He shrugs loosely. ]

I've had to pick it up. I worked in a council.

[ That's a bit surprising. ]

I didn't realize the Jedi have more than one council.

They don't. I was on the Council on Melida/Daan. Because I helped liberate it.

You liberated an entire planet?

[ If he were older, she wouldn't be surprised. But at this age? ]

[ He nods. ]

With help from the Young.

It sounds like quite a story.

[ A pause. ] But I thought Jedi weren't supposed to be involved with government.

They're not. . . . But I'm not a Jedi. Not anymore.

You're not? [ Obi-Wan Kenobi, not a Jedi? They're so tied together in her mind that she can't quite hide the shock. ]

Did you leave? [ Because Obi-Wan being kicked out is another impossibility. ]

[ He nods quietly. ]

I had to help so -- I left.

[ Padmé studies him carefully. Leaving the Order isn't something done lightly. Clearly, there's a way to return, but it doesn't make the initial decision less painful. ]

Sometimes the path ahead of us is so obscured that all we can do is what we feel is the right thing to do at the time.

[ She never liked vague platitudes, especially when she was his age, so she continues. ]

I was a queen when I was your age. I had councilors and advisers and the knowledge of those who came before me. But, in the end, the decisions were mine. There were times when I was scared of making the wrong choice. In those times, all I could do was follow my instincts and hope.

My instincts may have saved Melida/Daan.

[ but it didn't save her. And to Obi-Wan, Cerasi was Melida/Daan ]

So I can't . . . complain.

[ 'But it still hurts.' ]

[ Her expression is kind, but sad. But she pushes the sadness away the moment she can. ]

The Order will take you back. I have no doubt.

Master Qui-Gon might not. He's . . . hurt.

[ She sits in the chair, careful not to bump the guitar. She's more at eye level this way, though she has to look up a bit now. ]

I met Master Jinn once. He had come to my planet to help negotiate a treaty between my planet and another faction.

I didn't get the chance to know him very well. But he struck me as wise and brave. And compassionate.

[ He nods. That much is true. ]

He doesn't open up easily.
