[ The feed shakes for a few minutes before it centers on a young thirteen year old boy. He has the trademark padawan braid and robes as he sits on his knees in front of the camera. His expression is quiet and muted, though it seems like he hasn't had much sleep. His eyes are red-rimmed and tired. ]

Hello. If you could tell me if this ship is heading to Coruscant, I would be grateful. If not, I'd be happy to earn my way there through any duties you deem necessary.

[ He hesitates, pausing for far too long, biting on his lip. ] And if you -- you have seen Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

[ Action ]

[ Obi-Wan weaves himself through the ship, his shoulders hunched and his saber in a tight white-knuckled grip. Surely Qui-Gon wouldn't have left him here . . . not after coming back. Not after their discussion.

Then again, what rights did Obi-Wan even possess?

He tugs the hood over his face and keeps a wary eye on everyone who came close. This was a strange vessel and their responses got even more confusing. Best to keep to himself until he got to Coruscant. ]

I don't know much about music. It's not something we're taught.

[ Maglor cannot quite help the horrified stare of disbelief at that ]

[ He shakes his head firmly ]

That is a grievous oversight. [ He says ] Particularly if they mean to make of you negotiators! Music can both teach and comfort, as well as speak without words. And it makes you look cultured.

I suppose.

[ He seems dubious. ] It's not much of a priority and there are many areas for us to cover.

[ Maglor huffs ]

It is not as if there is something that takes much time, unless one truly means to make a study of it. But learning a simple instrument takes little time provided one is consistent, and has a good deal of benefit in things like co-ordination and breath control. To listen to music is comforting also - I am surprised that such things are neglected!

I don't know if it's . . . neglected. It's simply not a part of our life.

[ Maglor tsks softly ]

Ah now, but that will never do. Well - I say that, but tis not as if I can change anything. But while you are here, if you like, I mind not teaching you something simple.

[ A smile and Maglor beckons him over to the harp ]

Here - why do you not see if you can make my lady here sing. She is sturdy, so you need not fear breaking her.

[beardstrokes]

[ He hesitates, looking back at Maglor. ]

Are you sure?

[bythewaves]

I would not say it if I was not. [ He says gently ]

Here - set your hands so, that's it, and then... pluck!

[beardstrokes]

[ Carefully, he sets his hands on the harp, his fingers reaching out to touch the string. His touch is delicate and gentle. ]

[bythewaves]

[ The harp answers him, the strings ringing softly under his fingers ]

That's the way.

[ Maglor smiles ] If you are gentle with her, her sound will be, also - see how the lengths change the pitch of the notes? If you stroke them all like so... [ He runs a glissando ] They run together, like falling water - but if you pluck them [ And he picks out a scale, slowly, so that Obi-Wan can hear the notes ] you can hear each note on it's own - run them together in combinations, and you have music.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan hesitates once again before he settles his fingers on the strings, strumming them. They glide over the strings like water.]

[bythewaves]

[ The harp responds with a ripple of sound, evoking falling rain or the waves on the sea, and Maglor smiles ]

She likes you - you have the touch of one who might go far.

[beardstrokes]

I can feel it. In the Force. Like rain and rivers.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor smiles back at him ]

I have heard folk say that the harp often sounds like water - and I would agree.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan glances at him. ]

Do you play any other instruments?

[bythewaves]

A fair few. [ Maglor nods ] But the harp has always been my first love.

[beardstrokes]

Love . . . ?

[bythewaves]

Mmhmm. [ Maglor reaches across to brush across the strings again, a ripple of light on water. ]

You hear that? I have heard that Song since my earliest memories, a part of the greater Song of the World and yet distinct, the call of the water. How could I not but answer?
