What in the name of the Seven is 'vat tofu' and why would you eat anything coming out of a vat?

okay a couple things i'm gonna dictate this super carefully since this is a dumb argument and you gotta be better than patient zero dumbass up there

1) you don't grow tofu in a vat that comes from soy beans and there's plenty of those because plants are good they help with oxygen and stuff

2) vat protein is animal protein of different types that is grown in industrial labs like no actual animals involved just genetically improved meat cultures so it's clean and more nutritious than eating animals plus doesn't require killing other living beings and all the immune say it tastes just the same and has the same texture so it's basically a million times superior

3) vat protein is also a lot more efficient than growing actual animals to murder so like it means anyone who isn't a rich sicko from district one can actually afford to eat protein which is kind of important

so like why the fuck anyone would rather eat dirty protein that requires killing things and isn't even something most people can afford is a total mystery to me other than maybe people are just assholes

Thank you for clarifying the difference between tofu and vat protein. That makes a great deal more sense, and does not sound nearly as insane.

Where I come from we do not have meat processing places - we hunt all of our meat, outside of chickens, cows and pigs, and those are typically in farms and not in ... large laboratories. However, if this meat is in fact better, would it be possible to build such a machine here and, get actual meat instead of ... paste?

Whoops.] i used to read a lot i think i kind of remember but i can't any more but yeah kitty is on my ship too she's great and vision is really really smart i think because he's sort of like a computer person but not quite i think he's like an android person is the more technical term but anyway he's the smartest person i know other than my friend delta back home who is an actual computer person

oh yeah like i'm more artificial replacement parts than anything else at this point i think like last time all my bones got replaced with metalloid composites which is pretty cool it can be kind of useful anyway i'll let the captain know you'd like to talk to him!

In fact, I've been investigating the construction of a 3D printer for weaponmaking, but there's no reason we could not use a combination of the solid and powder forms of protein gel to make a more accurate meat-like texture.

To simply grow a steak may in fact be a technology we can purchase should we encounter another station such as the Starlight.

Is that so? I have simply been constructing weapons from what metals I have been able to buy or find on the last few planets we have visited. Would a 3D printed be able to make composite meat form? And ... could one then give it texture?

Now here is the question, will they allow us to buy it, and duplicate it for all the ships? I cannot imagine us all sharing one vat.
