I've always had them - I do have powers.

[ There's a moment's pause, and then - ]

[ She's getting better at this, she thinks, and there's a moment of pause before she stands a little straighter and focusses. Her entire body shifts, flecks of blue and scaling appearing as she shifts and transforms, no longer herself but a mirror image of Kara herself. ]

Wow! That's really good. Freaky-good, even. Is it just instinctive? Do you have to think about it? You've always been able to do that?

It depends on the person.

[ Now that Kara has spoken Raven has a better read on her, and she can use her voice as well, though it's... Harder. ]

And I'm sorry to hear you were alone. I have... well, someone I work with at home has a similar ability, and I think it was equally useful for him in that kind of situation.

I met him first as Hank Henshaw. It's still who I think of him as. But his actual name is J'onn J'onzz. He's a Martian, actually.

Is everyone with powers in your world someone that wasn't born on Earth?

[ She pauses, considering. ]

Unless that's a weird topic to go to or something is awkward right now. Not that I need to know. I actually don't know that much at all. He's a gossip but he definitely hasn't been gossiping about that.

[ She just shrugs, awkward. ]

I'm just not used to talking to people about anything like that.

No sisters, huh? I don't know what's it's like to have a brother, but probably not great for eating ice cream and watching rom-coms and talking about relationships.

[athru]

Only a brother. [ And she rarely told Charles anything, really. ] He always knew when I was upset, at least. He's like that.

[ The age-old argument about telepathy that she regrets. ]

Yeah, but knowing isn't the same as understanding.

[athru]

[ What happened in Cuba. That's enough for her, and she swallows, nodding her head. Those are the sort of things she keeps locked away, and she has to focus on something else before she huffs a noise. ]
