[ some of you may have noticed that winn has been uncharacteristically quiet for the past...16 days. he's not really sure how to address the elephant in the room - he knows these two weeks and change have been hard on the people he loves but for him it's like no time has passed and the dissonance is hard to bridge.

it's a good thing he has a not at all unhealthy coping mechanism set in place. ]

You know, if we're entertainment on a reality show, the least they can do is give us like a recap - you know your basic [ in a tv announcer impression ] here's what you missed on the Fleet - or - last week, on the young and the Drifting - [ he rubs the back of his head before shaking it ] Well, maybe talking about the 'least they can do' isn't such a great plan...first order of business - what'd I miss? he smiles and gives her a little wave. ]

Thanks - made it myself - it's an alien symbol, actually, or well - coat of arms. House of kickass alien superheroes. Are we hand shaking friends, hugging friends, awkward wave at a distance friends?

[ he's not really sure what to do with these high school girls, he really doesn't want to be creepy. ]

Probably awkwardly waving at a distance friends, but seriously, don't take that personally. That's the kind of friend I am with basically everyone. I'm not really good at hugs, and handshakes are like... what dad gives his business partners, probably.

[so, have an aforementioned awkward wave as she approaches. she is a girl of her word.]

Honestly I'm just glad for the clarity.

[ he's a hugger, but waves at a distance feel a lot less creepy with a girl her age. he's only recently started hugging margaery, and that's only because he's taken a brotherly role with her.

so he waves again. ]

Yeah, yeah, a little weak but otherwise fine, thanks. You want something to drink, eat?

A little weak, huh. In other words, here are the reasons I'm not fine, but I'm going to go on and pretend I'm fine anyways.

[she shakes her head]

Nah, I'm not hungry. Except for, like, knowledge about your alien stories.

I did promise.

[ he smiles, seamlessly ignoring her first point because, well, she's a smart kid. she's right. ]

Let's go sit at the office, my room's a mess and -- I feel kinda creepy bringing a high school girl up there, gotta be honest. [ so he'll lead her to kara's office, that doubles (or more like - mainly functions) as his sewing room. there's a comfy couch there, though! he used to sleep on it, still does when he falls asleep mid projecting. ]

Don't make it weird. Also, for the record, I'm totally old enough to be in college after months of interdimensional bullshit.

[she doesn't object as he leads the way, though, and takes a seat on the couch as soon as they reach the office.]

[ still too young for him. forget the fact that his girlfriend isn't really that much older than her - hey, she's turning 21 this month!

he sits on the other end of the couch, leaving a comfortable space between them ]

Isn't it? This used to be my room, back when the Tourist was over-populated.

I also have a girlfriend, so there's like, negative weirdness here. For the record.

[but! more importantly.]

So! Aliens.

[not that she's excited or anything. she's definitely not a nerd.]

Good - [ wait, is that a weird thing to say? he can fix it! (by fix it, he means blab way too much and embarrass himself. that's the true definition of fix it. now you know!) ] I mean I'm I'm - I'm glad for you, and for the negative weirdness cuz you and I both know I am weird enough on my own I don't need any help from unwanted and creepy weirdness. Only - nerdy - weirdness is allowed here.

[ what the hell did he just say? here, have an awkward smile, he's moving on, let's all pretend that didn't happen. ]

Aliens. [ he nods ] So, there are two kinds of aliens on my earth - well - no, that's not accurate - I separate aliens to two groups on my earth. There's the Supers - Supergirl and Superman, they're awesome - they're superheroes. [ he point to the symbol on his t-shirt ] That's their coat of arms, their actual arms serve as pretty badass arms - they're practically invulnerable, super strong, they can fly, they have laser eyes, and freeze breath - they're basically - the coolest thing you'll ever see in your life.

[ his excitement when he talks about them is obvious, and so's his fondness. ]

And then there're the bad ones. Oh wait! No, sorry, there's also a Martian working with the Supers, and there may more just living in hiding or whatever, so I guess - three groups, the good guys, the bad guys, and the neutral. Which, you know, nothing special there but - learning all the different alien species is freaking impossible do you know how many planets are out there?

[robitussin]

[she'll just gracefully move on to aliens. it's probably better for both of them.]

Wait, are you friends with superhero aliens? Holy shit. I wouldn't have called that. I mean, not in a bad way, just - you know.

[winn]

I know.

[ there's something strained in his expression there. he's too nerdy, too anxious, too scared to hang out with superheroes, right. well - turns out - wrong. supers, x-men, avengers, they all wanna be his friends! (a part of him is still afraid he'll wake up from this dream to find out he's been delirious in an insane asylum or something.) ]

Can I trust you with a secret?

[ that's not really a secret because so many people know already, and kara's not exactly hiding herself anymore - well, she was never really in hiding here, not since he got here anyway, but now she showed off her powers publicly on the planet so she's really not hiding. he's proud of her. ]

I said, not in a bad way, seriously. Like, a "Winn is too smart to get mixed up in those shenanigans" way, not "Winn's too much of a loser to get mixed up in those shenanigans" way. Not that I think you aren't smart now that I know you did in fact get mixed up in those shenanigans, just - fuck it, you get what I mean.

[a pause of surprise.]

Yeah, sure thing.

[winn]

...thanks. [ she gets a surprised and touched sort of smile from him. they spend their time teasing each other so much that he didn't really think...well, he didn't think she thought much of him at all, other than he's fun to banter with.

he leans in and drops his voice to a whisper, even though pretty much everyone on this ship knows this already. ]

I made Supergirl's costume.

[robitussin]

Wait, seriously? Dude, what the hell, that's so cool. I didn't know you could make clothes. Especially, like, superhero clothes.

[she sounds pretty genuinely interested.]

You must know each other pretty well. Anyways, what's the deal with the bad aliens? Are we talking, like, War of the Worlds or Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

[winn]

Seriously. What I'm wearing? 100% Winn make, down to the stitching of the logo. [ so much joy and pride right now. ] And let me tell you, tailoring for a superhero is hard work, they get your suit shot, ripped, burned - I made it out of bulletproof material and I still have to mend it.

[ shaking his head. kryptonians. ]

Okay - are you ready? Cuz this is where my earth gets really weird. An alien maximum security prison crashed into us. Yup. Snowglobe not looking that weird now, does it?

[robitussin]

They don't have, like, magical powers that extend to protecting their clothes? Comic books lied to me. Not that I read comic books. Shut up.

[pausing and squinting.]

Wait, what the fuck, an entire prison just crashed into the planet? How? Did it get shot into orbit somehow? Dude, your Earth has the shittiest luck.

[winn]

I know, I feel so cheated.

[ he grins. hey, it's not saying anything, technically! ]

Well see, the geniuses over on the prison planning stuck it in what's called the phantom zone - which is a part of space where time doesn't pass - and then it was knocked out of the phantom zone and since the thing knocking it was headed for earth - it got dragged along for the ride.

[ he'd never say it to kara, since it was her mother who sentenced a lot of these aliens to fort raz, but he really does think the concept of a phantom zone prison is a terrible idea all around. ]
