[Kitty was not expecting a surprise birthday party because while it is the date of her birth, her last birthday was about seven months ago because abductions that can happen from any time make things weird. And then there's also the part where Winn got attacked by Sascha and she and Winn had their first significant fight and things have been on the rough side. Of course, with people like Winn and Pinkie Pie in her life she really should have known better.

So, here we are on The Tourist with dancing in the cargo hold. Winn's phone is playing mustic amplified by Cisco's speakers. There are snacks, beverages, and cake in the kitchen. With Pinkie Pie helping out and some of the stores of food they built up from the time on the hand holding planet you can expect better-than-spacefood quality. And if you need more privacy, Winn opened his room up, but he did include a sign that says no making out complete with a disappointed frowny face, so you would never! Probably.

Enjoy the party! Kitty is turning 20 years and 7 months today? Yeah, there may be another birthday party for her coming up. She's probably doomed to have two per year. Of course you have to get gifts for both!]

You might know the DJ, but I'm sleeping with him. [Smirking. Things feel kind of fragile right now, but also less fragile than with Reid when it was bad and there are still these moments that are fun and she hopes they aren't lies for her benefit. She hopes he's finding the moments too.] Slow.

[ he frowns at her and looks from his phone back to her. ]

I dunno which to be appalled by first - that you've been cheating on me with my phone, or that my phone's been cheating on me with you!

[ going through the track list, he picks a song quickly, and offers her his hand ]

You were the DJ in my scenario, mister. Although vibrate mode is fun.

[KIDDING!

And then there's dancing and she's listening to this song she's never heard before and it strikes a cord with her. Maybe several. She holds him tighter as they sway. He is determined to make her cry at this party, isn't he?]

Hey I got a vibrate mode.

[ he laughs, not sure what that even means. he holds her and for one song -- feels normal, not like this wreck of a broken man. just him, dancing with his girlfriend to the sounds of one of the most cliche songs in his playlist. it feels nice.

he leans in for a gentle kiss. ]

Have I embarrassed you enough yet?

[It may be a cliche, but it feels all fresh and new to her. There hasn't been any new music since her childhood.] Never. [Voice soft and kiss a little more than the gentle one he was expecting.]

[ it's a reaction that makes forcing himself to do all of this, go through the stress of this party, all feel worth it. he kisses back, not caring if they're making their guests uncomfortable. ]

Don't tell me it's not worth fighting for. [It's a lyric from the song and she's not trying to sing it. She just really responded to it. She buries her face in his neck.] I love you, Winn Schott.

[ he smiles, and runs his fingers through her hair, speaking the next line back to her. ]

I can't help it, there's nothing I want more.

[ well, he wants them to be safe at home. sacrificing their relationship for all of them being safe at home - that feels doable. but otherwise... ]

I love you too, Kitty Pryde. But I think you may have suspected that.

[What is this, the Spider-Man retcon? No reason to sacrifice a relationship for that!]

I still like hearing it.

[ look it's an extreme one thing he'd give it up for scenario ok. digging out his communicator from his pocket, he sends her a voice mail, much as he did after their first night together. ]

[ hanging up the call, he shoves his comm back in his pocket and wraps his arm around her again with a smug grin. ]

This is definitely a top-notch birthday. One of the best.

[ this is where, if he weren't so recently traumatized, he'd say something like one of? I'll do better next time. the thought is there, but he can't bring himself to say it. ]

[Hard to beat childhood birthday parties with loving, living parents before the world fell apart. This is right up with them though.]

I don't know about that. [She hasn't felt like the best or one of the best girlfriends since he was attacked.] But I'll take it anyway.

[ he may be upset with her, he may be starting to figure out that he deserves to be treated well, but he still thinks she's way too good for him. ]

I'm a smart guy, I know these things. You can just take my word for it.

[She definitely thinks he should be treated well. She thought she was... It is hard to live up to Winn though. He's in constant thoughtful overdrive. She's good if she can just lay next to him every night.]

[ he's in thoughtful overdrive because he feels like he has to earn the right to be with the people he loves, in a way. he doesn't expect them to do the same or to even come close. he needs very little to be happy. ]

[ he laughs as the song changes ] ...close enough.

[She doesn't get it until the chorus kicks in.] So these were all songs you just happened to have on your phone back home?

Yeah and - some I grabbed from Cisco's collection.

[ he quirks a brow, both interested to learn that kiss existed in both their earths and to find out something new about her taste.

KISS, really? [ he waits for the song to be over cuz changing it while other people are dancing seems rude, and then heads over to his phone and picks one, singing along as he dances her way back to her with exaggerated head motions ]

Yes, really. You're not allowed to mock my choices and then sing along to them. [She doesn't actually seem that upset about either. She's enjoying this party thing. And by the way she manages to sing along to it too it's pretty clear it is the same band.]

[winn]

[ he doesn't really feel like mocking her anyway - it's so nice to see her happy. and singing along. ]

Did you ever do the makeup thing?

No. [A little elongated as if he's silly.]

...Maybe around the eye.

[ s l o w grin. it's nice to imagine kitty being a die hard fan of something, like most teenagers, doing a version of cosplay as a tribute to her favorite band. it's nice to imagine good things. ]

[Die hard might be a little strong. She enjoyed them and had a poster and she enjoyed the theatrics of their stage presence.] You're just going to have to imagine it.
