I didn't think I would grow older while I was still here. That is, we grow older each day, but I trust you all catch my meaning regardless. It's a strange thing, to gain a year so far from home.

I don't wish for a celebration or any gifts, but one thing I would enjoy is to hear stories. Legends or fables from your world, or experiences that you yourself have had. I find this sort of thing fascinating, truly. I would be happy to reciprocate as well.

OH! How about I tell you how I met my friends and we helped save our world from getting plunged into eternal night!

Okay, so I'm from Equestria, and we're ruled by two sisters: Princess Celestia raises the sun and looks over the day, and Princess Luna raises the moon and looks over the night! Over time, though, Princess Luna started to get jealous of the ponies playing all day and sleeping through the night. One night, she refused to lower the moon and transformed into Nightmare Moon, saying she'd make the night last forever and ever and ever!

What happened next? I imagine she was stopped.

Yup! After a HUGE fight Princess Celestia used the Elements of Harmony to seal Luna in the moon. From them on, Celestia moved the sun and the moon herself.

BUUUUT there was a really old and really obscure prophecy that she'd break out on the longest day of the thousandth year! And DURING that thousandth year Princess Celestia had a student named Twilight Sparkle. She was super smart and really REALLY good at magic, but she thought studying was WAY more important than making friends. She found out about the prophecy, AND that the longest day of the thousandth year was the Summer Sun Celebration THE NEXT DAY!

She wrote a letter to Princess Celestia immediately, but she told Twilight she needed to stop reading dusty old books. So she sent Twilight to a little town called Ponyville in order to help them get ready for the Summer Sun Celebration, and told her to go make some friends.

[He calls up, not with any tale to tell - ten year's worth, that he's not up to speaking of - but because it's been so much longer for him since he last saw Adelina.]

[ it's a while after adelina's broadcast that barriss hunts her down, items in her hand. one is a book of myths and folklore for the tri-faction system, the other is a little data device that should work just fine with the ship's technology, full of other similar stories - whatever interesting things barriss could find that she thought adelina might enjoy. ]

I know you said no gifts, but I had these already.

[ she just... hasn't been on the ship a whole lot recently. ]

[she turns away from what she was doing when she hears someone enter, smiling when she sees what it is barriss has.]
