{It's useful to be an Elf who didn't need much rest. And even when Fingon does rest, it's never easily thanks to memories that he's yet to address. So he sews. His grandfather spoils him and gave him enough cloth for a couple robes, and that's precisely what he's working on. Spread out around him in his small bunk are various bits of ribbon, thread, and lots of cloth, all of which are coming together under his skilled fingers.

The Elf has a light on, of course, but even with it his own natural faint glow is there if one looks. Black hair is braided back, and he's humming quietly as the needle darts in and out of the vibrant blue cloth in his lap. He doesn't want to disturb his mortal crewmates, after all! That would be rude. The song is an old one, for those who know Arda and its music, of brighter, more innocent days.

It's impossible to not realize he has no idea he's being observed.}

Most of us are on the same ship now! It's nice. {Fingon doesn't mind a full ship. He has the people dearest to him nearby, and sees them often.} Do you have family or friends here?

{He smiles in delight before laughing.} I can hardly imagine cutting my hair, though I would if I had to! {Steering thoughts away from Maedhros after his rescue.

He leans forward, not that in the doing helps him examine her clothes better.} You are from a world covered in sand? I can see how they would protect you.

I'm happy for you. [She realizes that might sound weird, but it's genuine?] Um...no. I don't know my family.

[His laughter chases her sadness away rather quickly and she nods.] I wouldn't want you to, but sand gets in everything.

[Rey sighs.] I'm not going back to it. I was on another planet when the Atroma took me.

Thank you. {Fortunately Fingon accepts her words as they're meant! Though a flash of empathy crosses his face.} I hope you find out about them, if you cannot know them yourself.

It does, I know. {Not that he minds sand, he enjoys walking along beaches!} I would probably wrap it in cloth to protect it, rather than cut any length off. {Like when he'd crossed over ice and death.}

Oh? Can you not return to it later? {Gently} I do not mean to pry. It only sounds like you miss it.

I wish I could. I thought I was on my way to find out about them, but then I was brought here. [It's a tad frustrating.]

I keep mine up and I wear a cloth or a helmet and goggles when I'm on my speeder. [She is rather proud of that vehicle, but it's probably gone by now.]

I don't miss Scavenging, having little food and little water... I was only there because I was waiting for my family to come back. They put me there when I was little.

Since coming here, I have learned that anything is possible. Do not give up hope, and hope will not desert you. You might learn about them here, if not back there!

Your speeder? {Fingon smiles, looking hopeful to learn.}

That had to have been hard. I do not doubt your family would be proud of you.

Yeah, I should keep positive about it. [But she has been waiting ten or eleven years.] I know I won't find them there, so I need to widen my search.

[She smiles faintly.] I built it. It's like a small ship, but it hovers over the sand and it can travel quickly...which explains the name.

[For a moment, she's silent.] I've done my best. I'll keep doing my best. I don't know what they think or feel.

But it is not always easy. {Fingon does understand.} You will.

{He listens, fascinated.} That must make travel much faster. And you built it? You must be very good with your hands!

{He shakes his head, gaze gentle.} Your best is good enough for any relative. I do not need to know them or you to know that.

You're right, it isn't easy. [But is anything? Being a friend, maybe.]

It does and I did. I learned from ships that had been abandoned in the sand. [She is very good at learning and listening to Traders/other Scavengers.]

You are really kind and I'm sorry, I don't even know your name? I'm Rey.

{Being a friend can also be hard, but worthwhile.}

All on your own. {Fingon thinks she's very brave.}

Ah! Forgive me! I am Fingon. You are most well met, Rey.

[She would consider just about any sacrifice worthwhile for a friendship. ~~Yes, she is that desperate.~~]

Who else would teach me? [She only did what she had to, earning enough money to survive each day.]

You are...well met?...too, Fingon.

{Fingon would agree, whole-heartedly.}

If you want, I could teach you how to make robes in the style of my people. {He figures someone else doing the teaching might possibly help her. If only a little.} I would not mind.

{He smiles brightly.} What ship are you on? I am on the Huntress.

Really? [She brightens and nods.] I would like that. I'm heading to the Bloodsport first, but then I'm going to try to transfer to Caprine. My friends are there and they invited me.

Your ship should have shuttles, you could visit mine! {Fingon's glad she has friends in the fleet.} There is no hurry.

I will. Someone challenged me to a race in the shuttles, so I should know how to fly them in no time.

[He can expect a visit very soon. ~~Do you want to action log it here or do you want me to post a log?~~]

{Fingon laughs softly.}

[Rey is so warmed by just speaking to him briefly that, as soon as she has her hands on a shuttle, she locates the Huntress quickly and is determined to pay a visit. Once she is in the shuttle bay of the Huntress, she climbs out of the shuttle, grinning to herself. Flying is definitely a passion of hers.

She pulls out her communicator and replies to his last message with a wave.]

Surprise?

{Fingon tries! He likes making people smile.

He grins and is quick to set his sewing down.}

Pleasantly! Wait there, I will be only a few minutes.

{True to his word, the Elf walks down the hall to the shuttle bay and waves, mimicking her gesture.}

Are you hungry? {Because food?}

[A smile can turn around someone's day, especially to someone like Rey. She beams when she sees him, nodding a mite too enthusiastically. The poor girl is likely hungry more than not.]

Sure. Your hair is even nicer in person. [Don't mind her admiring it and his ribbons.] Can you teach me how to do that?

{Fingon has lots of smiles!}

Then follow me! I try to keep a pot of stew on for whoever is hungry at any hour. And there should be cookies left. {Maybe. The Huntress is at full capacity.}

Thank you! I would be happy to teach you how to braid your hair like mine.

Are you the Cook? [She follows him, noting the differences on this ship.] I've worn my hair basically the same way since I was a child. I don't really like it in my face or in my way, but if it looked nice...

[Maybe she could deal with it.]

I am! {Much better than the Captain, in Fingon's opinion. He happily leads her to the kitchen and ladles out two portions.}

You lived on a sand-covered world, I can see why you would not want it in your face.

I lucked out. [She agrees. The Cook is way better. She takes her bowl and gives him a small grateful grin.]

If someone wanted to steal what you Scavenged and your hair was too long, they could use it against you in a fight. That's why I had a staff.

{Fingon grins back and leads her back down the halls to his room, bringing his bowl with him.}

I am thankful that has never been an issue on Arda, despite the Enemy and His armies. Helms helped in battle, of course.

[She might be stealing a few bites from her stew as they walk. One shouldn't waste food.]

Arda is your planet? Who was your enemy? I have a helmet...well had a helmet...for when I was on my speeder.

{Fingon waits as long as it takes to get back to his rooms and seated comfortably, cloth and various other bits of material safely out of harm's way.}
