[We're drifting, so it's a perfect time to make use of the many fine establishments on our common ship.]

[ Charles isn't deterred. ]

Not here, but maybe on the next system?

Maybe. [He isn't scared of his powers. Not in the way he used to be, after being tortured and finding it difficult to even move a pin. There are simply times where his instability makes it rockier than it should be.] Did you have something in mind?

[ He shrugs, nonchalant. ]

Perhaps something similar, like the time with the satellite. It'll come to me.

[Serenity seems a long way off for him. As does rage. Erik still nods, thinking back. That was a long time ago now.] I wouldn't do it on the ships. Somewhere else... I can try it.

What about you? [Charles had said 'our powers', after all.]

I'm getting there. I have new walls to put up. New things to believe in.

[ He sighs, but there's a smile on his face. ]

Restructuring the mind and the heart is a taxing process but it pays off.

[Privately, Erik doesn't think it's so easy to corral the heart. If it were, his own wouldn't crumple every morning when he wakes up alone in his room.

He rolls his shoulders, some movement after the long period spent in stillness.]

These things take time.

[ Charles is not interested in dwelling. Whatever happened in the Fleet - or before - didn't matter. The less time spent on that, the better. ]

[Erik hums, not agreement, not disagreement.]

My powers are fine. It took a bit of time-- retuning them, I suppose. Nothing major.

That's a good sign, Erik.

[ He sighs, shaking his head. ]

Well, it's a suggestion.

I said I would try it. I did ask you what you would be doing to add your power to the meditation, though. [To which Charles didn't answer, not really.]

That would have to be solitary meditation. Like . . . going into someone's heart.

I see. [It does make sense, he supposes. Though the idea of going into a heart brings back memories that are difficult, to say the least. And solitary...]

[ He smiles, lightly patting Erik's arm. ]

The less people involved, the better.

[He grunts lightly at the pats.]

You ought to let someone know when you're doing it, at least. So they can check on you if something goes wrong.

[Like... coma inception.]

I'd probably tell Hank. He should know.

Good idea. [Hank can probably convince Charles not to proceed if it gets out of hand. Can a telepath get trapped in their own mind? ... he's not going to wonder.]

What do you have planned for the rest of the day?

Ah, I might start planning my lecture. I said I would host one some time ago.

[He has some vague recollection of lectures being an occasional thing on the Fleet. And even of Charles talking about it.]

Did you have a topic then?

[ He shrugs. ]

I might pick one of the books on the library. Hank said he'll cover genetics.

I might go there later myself. I don't fancy reading Dracula again.

You really need to broaden your reading material, Erik. Maybe T.H White? Or Stevensen. Even, god forbid, Hemingway.
