[ Video/Action | Open ] Rosh Hashanah
Who: Kitty Pryde and YOU!
Broadcast: Video, open
Action: Iskaulit, feel free to run into her
When: Nowish!
[Kitty is on screen looking much more feminine than last time.]
Does anyone have any apples or honey or anything close to either from the last stop? I was...just thinking about it today. [Softer.] Not that I even know how to tell when sundown is in space.
[But she knows it's close to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, but nailing down a date would take calculating she can't do based on a moon that's not even here. She's not really a religious person and has some definite issues with god especially after everything she's been through back home, but the traditions remind her of better times when she was young with her family. She didn't think about it much in the last place because they didn't run off of a calendar she was familiar with, but here it brings back memories.]
Anyway, I'd trade for some if you do. We'll work something out.
Leshana tovah. [She's wishing people a good year in Hebrew, but she doesn't bother explaining the meaning.]

video;
Right. You said you'd been with the fleet a year already, right? Longer now. Lots of time to practice.
video;
That, plus I worked at Princeton for a couple of years. [beat] So, uh, if you want me to do anything for tonight, we can probably grab people for something small.
[He doesn't know her super well, but again, he runs the Interfaith Center. This is his lifeblood, and if it'd help her feel closer to her culture or faith, it's the least he could do.]
video;
Do...oh, no, um... [Feeling awkward now.] I'm not really religious. [She was always very scientifically minded but even then she was able to make peace with the two side by side. It wasn't until her parents were murdered and then she watched the world splinter and shatter all around her with such wide-spread destruction and death and utter loss that things changed. It isn't so much that she stopped believing as she stopped trusting God. Sometimes she's angry at him. Sometimes she tells herself he's not there. Never sure which makes her feel better. Though the latter is always easiest around Kurt.]
It's just that it reminds me of home. My parents. [She doesn't feel right taking his or anyone else's time up for that. She feels bad enough about the honey.]
video;
Someone once told me that when it comes to Judaism, you can celebrate your culture even if you may not share the same level of faith. [Or even have faith at all, but it's not his place to say such things. Not when he's clearly more devout than the average Joe.] I don't know enough to host a dinner, so I would've been going by your word anyway.
It's okay. I don't mind doing it, 'cause if our roles were reversed? I know I'd like some company.
video;
I think I just want to keep it low key.
video;
[He pauses, before adding,] I'll see you soon. The honey's right in the kitchen.
video;
[And it isn't long before she's heading into that kitchen. She's explored the Iskaulit before, but she wasn't that thorough when it came to the interfaith center. She'd slip into the main area and then back out again. It felt a little awkward to give it the same deep dive she was giving other areas.
She looks around now for Stefan.]
action;
[Like a bolt from the blue, Stefan's entered the kitchen with his usual (half-filled) mug of tea. It might as well be a security blanket, for he's almost never without it - and like everyone else in the Center, he's eschewed his shoes at the door in favor of fuzzy slippers.
He sets the mug down and reaches for a small mason jar filled with honey; it's not as much as he'd like to hand over, but it's still enough to share with friends.]
Just like I promised. I'll check around the back [read: the closets tucked in the fire room] if you need more.
action;
[Oh, vampires and their speed. It might bother her if she hadn't had a speedster teammate. As it is there is a reactive moment of being defensively phased and then back to solid—not really a visible process.]
No, this is great. Thank you for giving me this much. Is there anything I can give you? I still have some supplies from previous planets. [Where she wasn't thinking about honey.] And I have more credits than I'm comfortable with. [Mostly because of what she does that might be earning her ratings. Not the kind of thing you want to be paid for.]
action;
[Under normal circumstances, he'd merely mention that using the space would be enough, but Kitty had mentioned that she wasn't really religious. So he's at a bit of a loss. Stefan's never been fond of asking for a fair trade, especially when they're not running low on honey or other sweeteners around here.]
If you can think of something later, I wouldn't say no, but... off the top of my head, I think we're good.
action;
So, how have you been? I guess we don't run in the same circles enough to bump into each other much.
action;
[It's also been a hell of a month on his end. Stefan's not sure when he last got a proper night's sleep (not that he needs it, technically).]
It's... been going. Never a dull moment around here, though I wish it'd had a little less violence this round. [beat] How about you? Settled in okay?
action;
very settled. Too much maybe. They decided to mix it up by turning me into a guy for a few days.
action;
[That's uh... that's nowhere the answer he was expecting, and his expression shows.]
Huh. I don't... think I've heard that one before.
action;
[She's actually a little surprised that he's surprised.]
Really? I know a few people who had the same thing happen. Augment glitch. Lasted for four days. You haven't had one? It's not always changing sex.
action;
[He's not gonna dwell long on that - he doesn't know Kitty well enough to honestly talk about what he saw (or felt), and the augment glitch's got enough of his attention already.]
Well, yeah, I knew about glitches. They used to be pretty rare, and more along the lines of memory loss and turning into a kid. [He shrugs.] You're the first I've heard, honestly.
action;
action;
[He shivers. While he's personally experienced it, it certainly wasn't while he was in the Fleet.]
On that cheerful note, I bet you're happy to be you again.
action;
Very. The day after was like self-appreciation day. [Don't take that to a weird place.] And I'm sure Winn's happy I stopped borrowing his clothes.
action;
[Okay, so practically no one shares a name anymore, not since the other Winter went home, but he has to double-check.]
I didn't realize you were on the same ship.
action;
Mm, we're not technically. We just take turns on each other's ships.
action;
[There's a couple of seconds before the gears click into place . . . ]
Oh! [He laughs, his smile finally reaching his eyes.] I'm sure he didn't mind that much. Elena used to do that too, though uh, it was less because of a glitch and more because she liked my jacket.
action;
Well, that part happens sometimes too. [Occasionally just grabbing a button-down shirt or tie playfully.] Not usually the whole wardrobe though. [She'd never worn his pants before.]
action;
Mm, yeah. That would've been a little much, even for her.
Beyond that, though, everything else's fine? Not much crew drama or anything?
action;
Our crews are pretty great. {There has been some low level drama ever since Sascha's augment glitch that ended in him attacking Winn. But he's not a crewmate so...skipping over him!] Yours?
