[ Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no. Mattias claps a hand over his mouth, shaking his head and trying not to imagine it. It doesn't work.]
... Goddess. [But wait. He snaps to attention.] How do you know? That he... Goddess.

Oh, I've known him for a quite a while. Long before we ever came to this place.
He has a tendency to tell horrible secrets while drunk...
no subject
[Which is what he imagined. He laughs nervously. ] He's not... Is there anything else I should know about him? Just-out of curiosity, of course. I don't mean to pry I just-[ Want... To pry...] It'd be nice to know what I'm getting into. Not that I mean to, uh. Get "into" him at all, I just-
[Oh, fuck it.]
no subject
Well. ...You know him that well already, do you?
[he folds his arms, drums fingers on his elbow for a moment.]
Though, I suppose that isn't all that surprising. Robin does tend to move fast...

[It comes out more pathetic than he'd like just as his mind obsesses far too easily over the implications. Mattias has to wade through every anxious thought before coming to his senses, shaking his head and hands violently.] No, no! You misunderstand! I don't know him well at all. We've just... spoken a few times. I was simply curious. Nevermind. Nevermind!
[MAYBE IF HE LAUGHS AWKWARDLY ENOUGH THIS WILL ALL GO AWAY.]

...You're too smart to fall into that sort of web anyway, I can tell.
no subject
Web?
no subject
[answered so matter-of-factly.]
...Do I detect disappointment in your voice?

[It's hurt. The aching of scars that should have been long-since healed. He reaches out for a new book, barely looking at the cover before opening it up.] We barely know each other.
no subject
...It's true, though. You barely know anyone here.
Don't forget to tread carefully. ...Especially if you're used to having someone close by, watching out for you.
[and he taps the side of his own head, trying to indicate the man's missing goddess without bringing the topic up more blatantly than he has to.]
no subject
[Even if it takes him away from what he wants.
With a sigh, whatever tension was present evaporates. A hand runs through his hair, his fingers turn a page.] You never did tell me what you were doing here.
no subject
I didn't mean any offense. Just sharing some educated advice.
[and he shrugs, taking a glance around.]
I like these places, and they're hard to find while drifting out here. So, I'm taking advantage of it while I can.
no subject
[Puzzling over that, he closes his book and mulls over the cover.] Perhaps we could assist their collection...
[He's gonna steal the book.]
no subject
[--ah, and he catches on to Mattias' subtle hint, and smiles a little.]
I do believe she would very much appreciate the help.

[Standing in his seat, he reaches for a book two stacks up and halfway across the table. Teetering dangerously, he manages to snag it without incident though he doesn't sit back down. Rather he kneels on the table itself, flipping through the book. Yes, this one would do.] I trust you'll keep this a secret, of course. I'd rather not be thrown in jail.
no subject
Unless you give me a really good reason to, I'll be the last to get anyone in trouble with the law.
no subject
You know, I think that might make us accomplices.
no subject
...You know, I have always loved that word.

[He pulls another book down from the pile.] What should be our newest acquisition? [Holding one book in his left hand, the other in his right, he raises the left.] A steamy romance born from the stars? Or-[He raises the right.]-a bloody history of an alien monarch?
[He puts them both down.] Or something else, if you'd prefer. I honestly have no idea as to your preferences.
no subject
...No. It needs to be something good.
[he reaches over to push through a few of the books stacked nearest to him, but his gaze quickly slides to the shelves surrounding them.]
It needs to be something special. It should be something they'll miss.
no subject
Something they'll miss. [He thinks, leaning back on the table as he remembers every book he's looked at the past few days. It's only when he comes across a good candidate that he leans forward, snapping his fingers.] The Moonmaker's Manifesto! It's a rare, religious text. There's only a few copies available from what I've read. This library has one of them.
no subject
Oh, how fitting! She would be proud, don't you think?
[religion and moons and nighttime and new partners in crime! he's suddenly so very pleased with all of this. he's immediately thrilled and set on the hunt.]
Do you think you'd be able to lift it, while I kept watch and provided distraction if need be?
no subject
[He notes the sharp teeth for later and taps his chin for now, mulling it over. He's too honest for a good con plan.] Do you think we could walk out with it? Maybe hide it in another book. Or maybe...
[Stop him before he gets lost to thought.]
