[ Maybe October doesn't really happen in space, but since time is arbitrarily defined anyway, maybe it does. Throughout the month, members aboard the Tourist might notice subtle(ish) decorations going up. A paper garland of candied apples here, some adorable paper Jack-O-Lanterns there... The ship was destined to be a Pinterest board the moment Kara was brought on it. Sorry not sorry. ]

[ that would be awesome. and also misuse of power but he's not sure he's a good enough person not to go for it if the opportunity came up for real. of course he wouldn't want her to really hurt them -- but some of them have definitely earned getting one hell of a scare. ]

Look, I really don't think Kurt needs me to take care of him - [ isn't he hilarious? it was getting too serious, okay. ]

[She's so good at scaring people—intentionally and otherwise.] Mm, you know what? I knew you were going to say that. Your girlfriend knows you way too well.

[ she scared the hell out of him when she pulled sascha through the door that time he woke them up in the middle of the night. to this day, he's terrified of waking her up, even when she tells him to do it. ]

That I can't actually read you mind but at least I'm pretty.

[ he kisses the top of her head. ]

What was it then? [Fond look.]

Where would be the fun in that? You think you know me too well - well here, have some mystery.

I know you like your mystery so it's like I can see right into you! [Maybe just a little disappointed but this is just all in fun anyway.]

I like uncovering my mysteries, it's like we've never met.

[ he's totally teasing. in truth what he was thinking is general uncertain anxiety over becoming boring to her, too predictable. ]

[Never. There is a part of her that likes—even needs and craves—action and adventure. And she does find some of that with Winn. But what she enjoys so much about being with him is the loving, supportive foundation they have. She wouldn't trade that for any thrill. Which is not to say there aren't thrills. She still blushes thinking about what they did in the shed outside of that restaurant while their breakfasts got cold. And he's smart and funny and always stimulating. He has nothing to worry about which probably won't stop him from worrying.]

I don't like this never met scenario. Meeting is better.

[ to be honest, nothing is going to stop him from worrying. but knowing that might ease it, for a little while.

pulling his head back, he boops her nose with his own. ]

You're stuck with me.

[She stops just short of saying "for the rest of my life I hope." She'd mean it, but it feels like too much. She's worried he wouldn't... That it would push him away and that's the last thing she wants.]

There's no one else I'd want to be with more.

[ it wouldn't exactly push him away, but it would scare him. even though he loves kitty, doesn't want to ever imagine this ending, and knows that in trying to take her home with him he's probably making way more of a commitment than in proposing - it's still scary. even if they do end up breaking up for some unfathomable reason some day, though, he doesn't want to imagine a kittyless existence. he wants her in his life for the rest of his. ]

I will take it question free. [ leaning in for a kiss. ]

[It's too soon. Too unstable because of where they are and yet she feels it with certainty. What she should ask herself is how much of that comes from wanting something permanent in her life. Everything has been lost or taken time and again. So, she's in love and she wants to keep him. It's a normal enough impulse made more intense by her past. By losing her parents and their unconditional love and support when she was still so young. But in the moment she just knows it feels right. A lot like this kiss.]

[ how much of his desperate clinging to her comes from a lifetime of affection starvation? how will they cope with a stable environment? it's always on his mind, would she even like him in national city?

she loves him now. that's what matters.

when they break apart, he smiles. ]

So, work?

[She doesn't think that would shake her. Him being happier without her would shake her loose.]

Worst foreplay. [She kisses him again, quicker and sighs.] Work. [More playfully begrudging than anything.]

[ he doesn't think he would ever be happier without a person who loves him. unless it's his father's version of love - definitely happier without that.

he laughs. ]

I'm too caffeinated right now, it'll actually be great foreplay. [ he doesn't want to give her a disappointing time. oh sure, it'll happen. maybe it already has. but not when he's aware of it, dammit! ]

[He could never disappoint her. Okay, he could, but not with a physical function of his body. Would he still hold her and love her? Then he's all good.] Well, definitely if you'd be thinking about making things spooky and not about me.

[ he'll always hold her and love her, but he feels like a failure when he can't satisfy her. ]

Well, when I think about things getting spooky, I do tend to think a lot about you...

[ making sure she's alright, hiding behind her -- ok, they're definitely not making things that spooky, they agreed the party shouldn't really be scary, just thematic and fun. but still! ]

So, tell me all about the plans. Will there be dancing? [Priorities.]

Of course. There'll be dancing, karaoke, food, a bar, haunted house, and just a damn good time.

[ which they all desperately need. ]

I like this plan. [You had her at dancing.] Tell me more about the things we're making for it. [The better to help you with, my dear.]

We need decorations, and some things to pop out at the haunted house - holograms are great but if nothing's real it's not gonna be any fun. So I'm trying to make some mechanisms to make things jump out at people right now.

I could just jump out of walls at people. [Kidding. She's good with building mechanisms. Totally on that. Less on the arts and crafts part.] Where are we hosting this haunted house?

And who am I gonna dance with?

[ besides, that would actually be legitimately scary. ]
